Christopher Hitchens in Arabic?

Hey,
I have an unusual request: does anyone know of any texts by Christopher Hitchens that have been translated into Arabic?

I ask cos I know an Arab fan of Hitch – she has seen him on Youtube – whose level of reading English is not as high as she’d like. She’d love to read him in Arabic. I realise that what I ask for may not exist.

  1. I wish I knew Arabic. I would get to work on translating “god is not Great” and then following up with some of his other works. Then I would distribute the texts on the internet.

  2. Well. That would certainly look like a good project for a foundation for reason and science, but as you can see here ( http://old.richarddawkins.net/… ) Richard Dawkins had real trouble getting good translations for his previous books, even to major Europeans languages that are relatively close to English and for which many good translators are available.

Sure, in a perfect world, Christopher Hitchens’ books would certainly look good in Arabic and free on the internet. But we would need a good translator willing to do it well. If you look there (http://forum.wordreference.com… ), you’ll see that translators are reluctant to even translate the title “God is not great”

  3. I don’t know of any Christopher Hitchens books in Arabic and I don’t think you’ll find any. Only about 330 books are translated into Arabic yearly about one-fifth of those translated in a small country like Greece.

  4. I am translating the god is not great of Hitchens for few of my friends that are between Islam and Atheism , I am doing it as something I do in my free time only , I have translated only few pages yet , If you want I can send you the book once I finish it .

If it’s no trouble, I’d sure like to get my hands on whatever you have translated. I’m an American atheist involved with an Algerian Muslim, and, of course, he’s never heard of any arguments against the existence of Allah. But he’s very interested to know why I think this way. His English is less than one year, so I need help!

      Thanks,
      Zoletta
