Women bring violence on themselves: priest

An Italian priest has sparked anger for claiming women bring domestic violence on themselves by dressing provocatively and neglecting housework.

A Catholic priest has sparked outrage in Italy by claiming women bring domestic violence on themselves by dressing provocatively and neglecting housework, Italian media report.

“How often do we see girls and mature women going around scantily dressed and in provocative clothes?” Piero Corsi said in a Christmas message posted on the door of his church in the small town of San Terenzio in northwest Italy.

“They provoke the worst instincts, which end in violence or sexual abuse. They should search their consciences and ask: did we bring this on ourselves?” it read.

The leaflet, a copy of which was posted online sparking a wave of outrage across the country, said the 118 women killed in acts of domestic violence in Italy in 2012 had pushed men to their limits.

“Is it possible that all of a sudden men have gone mad? We don’t believe it,” Corsi wrote.

“The fact is that women are increasingly provocative, they become arrogant, they believe themselves to be self-sufficient and end up exacerbating the situation,” he said.

  1. The region’s bishop, Luigi Ernesto Palletti, stepped in as the story went viral and said Corsi’s words were “unacceptable and go against the church’s common feeling on the matter”.

Oh, I think this is indicative of exactly how the church feel about the matter!

Taliban, catholic church, funny how they all sound the same isn’t it?

Actually it’s been awhile since the Catholic Church said it would shoot teenage girls who opposed it.

  3. Unfortunately primitivism goes on. It is very hard to fight it when it is supported by the state, and the media that don’t criticize religion strong enough. Signore Corsi obviously think that all men are idiots, and that they are impotent about their own instincts, and behavior. Further more they are not responsible for their actions! Corsi is an squared idiot. I didn’t know that he is a psychologist also, ha,ha,ha,ha…, so when women dress as they wish, they are possible violence target. He forgets that provocation is in the eyes of the one that is looking, and not vice versa. Further more, children are not abandoned „to their own devices“ as he says later in text,…where are the fathers? What are they doing? They are not supposed to raise children?

This is yet another proof of religion primitivism. I only wish that journalists take more stronger, and more sever comments on such claiming from priests, and church generally (not only in Italy). :)

  4. Unlike priests of course who: “… provoke the worst instincts, which end in violence or sexual abuse. They should search their consciences and ask: why do we bring this on others?”

“Is it possible that all of a sudden priests have gone mad? We don’t believe it, They’ve always been mad” said an atheist. “The fact is that priests are increasingly provocative, they have always been arrogant, they believe themselves – without the slightest justification – to be useful and end up exacerbating any situation,” he said.

  5. “How often do we see priests and (allegedly) mature men going around comically dressed and in provocative clothes?”
Piero Corsi failed to mention this in a Christmas message posted on the door of his church in the small town of San Terenzio in northwest Italy.

“They provoke the worst instincts, which end in violence or sexual abuse. They should search their consciences and ask: did we bring this on ourselves?” it read.

    Psychological projection ???

  6. They should search their consciences and ask: did we bring this on ourselves?”

y’know when you get these religious types getting all uppity because evil secularists dare to ridicule them..?

  7. This being from the same church that tells us the it “knows” what marriage is and it can define the relationship between a man and a woman?

Does anyone know if there are statistics showing the ratio of domestic violence in gay couples and if it is, as I might suspect, less than in couples composed of a provocatrice and an uncontrollable urge?

  8. Corsi said:

“I don’t know whether you’re a queer or not, but what do you feel when you see a naked woman?” he asked a reporter for Rai Radio.

“Are women themselves not causing harm by unveiling themselves like this?”

How naughty of God to create human beings with sexual urges. Hell, if only Eve had kept that fig leaf on and not talked to the snake ! It’s all her fault.

And one thing bothers me. How does this priest know what it feels like to see a naked woman ? One of his many “secrets” perhaps ?

  9. I have said on many other posts…Catholic women around the world make it a resolution to STOP ATTENDING CHURCH. You have one mass left this year. Stand up as a group at the start of the homily and leave!

No. They will let teenage girls die instead of giving them abortions. A big difference?

  11. Hmm…so women cause men to abuse them because they dress a certain way? So, according to this priest, the sight of women dressed “provocatively” makes men sin. Perhaps Corsi should consult his precious Bible to tackle the problem. According to his beloved Jesus, the onus is on men, not women. Matthew 5:29-30 says of this, “So if your eye–even your good eye–causes you to lust, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your hand–even your stronger hand–causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.” If this man were actually true to his Bible, rather than a delusional misogynist looking for any excuse to scorn women, he would advise the sinful men to gouge out their eyes and cut off their arms if the sight of women causes them to sin. In fact, why don’t they have their pedophile priests do the same and serve by example to their flock on how not to sin?

Really, though, what can we expect from someone whose life is dedicated to serving the psychopathic, patriarchal, and deeply misogynistic Abrahamic “god?” The filthy mob of theists constantly outdo themselves in scraping the bottom of the barrel of immorality. Indeed, one might say that said barrel is bottomless when left in their hands.

Some take this “unveiling” very seriously!
My daughter told me that while in the swimming pool the other day, she saw a woman swimming (or trying to), wearing a full hedjab!!!

  13. Neglecting housework?

What’s the first thing a women does upon returning from the battered women’s shelter? The dishes if she knows what’s good for her. What do you tell a woman with two black eyes? Nothing, you already told her twice.

The idea that compliance with chores is related to violence is well established as loathsome. If he heard those tasteless jokes, he would just think it’s advice.

“Although in recent years Take Back the Night has been co-opted by liberal feminists, it has its roots in the widespread unrest of Italy in the late seventies. In 1976, a seventeen-year-old was gang-raped in Rome. A year later, when her case went to trial, she was gang-raped again by the same men: and this time, her whole body was slashed with razors in an attempt to keep her silent. Within hours, fifteen thousand women mobilized, uniformly dressed like the sex workers common to the district; “NO MORE MOTHERS, WIVES AND DAUGHTERS: LET’S DESTROY THE FAMILIES!” was the cry heard in the street. They came just short of burning the neighborhood to the ground.”

Looking up this bastard, I see many articles on him make (unsourced) claims that Italy leads Europe in femicide.

  14. I’m sure certain types of people, both male and female partially bring on violence to themselves. I don’t think this should be ignored by blind political correctness.

That said- I’m sure this male in a dress who is sworn to celibacy but tells other people how to conduct their sex lives hasn’t thought about men who also could innocently invite violence upon them through their actions.

  15. In reply to #39 by NoKiddingMan:

Even if women walked naked in the streets, no man is authorized to rape or harass them. This would be men’s problem. In particular, prients’ problem.

Sorry for the typo: I meant priests’ problem….

At least, stop giving them money.

  17. Yes, a friend of mine said that in her local swimming pool they have an evening for women only, solely to accommodate Muslim swimmers. She was in the pool with quite a few of them- fully clad in the hijabs, and some of them even in long robes. The pool was obviously closed to male swimmers but additionally extra shutters were lowered so as to preserve the modesty of the swimmers. I think Father Corsi would approve of these ‘unprovocative’ measures…

Unfortunately, abusive relationships are much too common across all social stratum. Being gay or lesbian, wealthy and privileged does not end the cycle. Reporting abuse in such relationships possibly has more stigma attached to it.

On the main point of Father Corsi’s allegations, he has obviously not familiarized himself with data on the matter. Unfortunately, his ignorance fuels more excuses for domestic violence – a subject that is very difficult for many women to discuss with family or friends because of shame and fear. Additionally, abusive partners tend to isolate their victims – making it more difficult for victims to go for help. On the brighter side of this, perhaps it will spark more discussion and more openness in Italy and other countries around the world. It is also time for women to step up and leave the Church and other religious leaders of the same inclinations. And parents should really question what it is religion is teaching their children.

When people claim that Richard Dawkins and others are wrong for being so outspoken about the evils of religion, they should be handed this article along with the countless other teachings of the faithful.

  19. … an elderly female resident told Sky Italia television that Corsi “should keep a low profile as he has lots of secrets he would not wish to come out”.

Anybody want to take bets on whether he’s been beating up women or raping children??

Do you want the bad news?

On God the Creator, the Vatican Council was very clear. The definitions preceding the “anathema” (as a technical term of Catholic theology, let him be “cut off” or excommunicated, cf. Galatians 1:6–9; Titus 3:10–11; Matthew 18:15–17) signify an infallible doctrine of the Catholic Faith (De Fide): – wikipedia

If anyone does not confess that the world and all things which are contained in it, both spiritual and material, were produced, according to their whole substance, out of nothing by God; or holds that God did not create by his will free from all necessity, but as necessarily as he necessarily loves himself; or denies that the world was created for the glory of God: let him be anathema.
