Anti-Muslim violence in America

21

On the evening of December 27, an Indian immigrant to America named Sunando Sen was pushed by a stranger onto the subway tracks in New York City and struck and killed by an oncoming train. Sen had called New York home for years, and after years of hard work and struggle had recently managed to achieve his lifelong goal ofopening a small business of his own, a copy shop in Upper Manhattan.

His roommate, MD Khan expressed shock at the death of his friend, a soft spoken man who liked to stay up late watching comedy shows and listening to music: “He was so nice, gentle and quiet… It’s broken my heart.”

The following day, the NYPD announced the arrest of Erika Menendez, a 31-year-old woman who had been spotted on security footage fleeing the scene after Sen had been pushed. Upon being detained and taken to a 112th Precinct police station for questioning, Menendez confessed to Sen’s murder and revealed as her motivation a desire to commit violence against Muslims. As she told detectives:

“I pushed a Muslim off the train tracks because I hate Hindus and Muslims… Ever since 2001 when they put down the Twin Towers, I’ve been beating them up.”

Sunando Sen was not a Muslim, but as a brown-skinned foreigner living in the United States, he was targeted and killed in an act of hate which is the by-product of an ongoing campaign of bigotry and demonisation against Muslims living in America.

  1. Murtaza Hussain is a devious Islamic apologist, witnessed by his claim (absolutely disproven) that the murders in Benghazi resulted from ‘offence’ over the ‘Innocence of Muslims’ video. The Obama administration KNEW within 12 hours of the attack that it was premeditated and well planned, even though that knowledge was initially denied. The IOM had nothing to do with it.
‘Spiralling out of control’- ridiculous. What REALLY has spiralled out of control are Islamic jihadist attacks, both against the west AND other Muslims! Since 911, over 20,000 resulting in death, from the Religion of Peace.

Erika Menendez is mentally unhinged and will be tried and convicted; ‘Egyptian-American activist’ Mona Eltahawy is almost as crazy- was raped and both arms broken by ‘animals’ (her words) in Tahrir square while covering the riots, then amazingly became an Islamist sympathiser (Stockholm Syndrome par excellence?). Read her recent ‘poem’ (a work to rival Shakespeare) to improve your understanding of this weirdo.

Nowhere on the ad does the word ‘Muslim’ appear, nor ‘Islam’. As for savagery, just read the koran, or this short summary- http://www.jihadwatch.org/islam-101.html
Bigotry? Demonization? Good grief, he’ll be accusing us of ‘Racism’ and ‘Islamophobia’ next. Oh, wait….

  2. “I pushed a Muslim off the train tracks because I hate Hindus and Muslims… Ever since 2001 when they put down the Twin Towers, I’ve been beating them up.”

Murder is murder. Trying to justify it with faulty logic is just sad.

  3. Why no mention in your comment of Pamela Geller, one of the individuals responsible for the subway ad that ‘crazy’ rape victim Mona Eltahawy was defacing? For the record, Ms Geller is a co-founder of Stop Islamization of America, a far-right anti-Muslim organisation and the American arm of the Stop Islamisation of Europe campaign, which has been classified as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center, which says the SIOA “promotes a conspiratorial anti-Muslim agenda under the guise of fighting radical Islam” and “seeks to rouse public fears by consistently vilifying the Islamic faith and asserting the existence of an Islamic conspiracy to destroy ‘American’ values.”

So a vile human being, then, but as sane as Nick Griffin, Geert Wilders, Nikolaos Michaloliakos….

“Nowhere on the ad does the word ‘Muslim’ appear, nor ‘Islam’. As for savagery, just read the koran…”

In any war between the civilized man and the savage, support the civilized man. Support Israel. Defeat Jihad.

This is a repugnant philosophical worldview on its own terms: our species’ history is replete with examples where so-called civilised peoples either enslaved or simply committed genocide against those they decided didn’t meet the same standard of civilisation as themselves. Got a problem with pesky injuns, give them smallpox-infected blankets, that’ll see off those savages; want to spend your days sipping mint juleps on the verandah of your large plantation home, why suh, get yuhself some savages from that there Africa to pick yuh cotton. Keep them away from yuh womenfolk though, they ain’t quite human you know. That Mitt Romney was pilloried on his Middle East tour last year for his remarks about Israeli culture being superior to that of the Palestinians suggests this sort of view is thankfully no longer given much credence

But that’s by the by. If you’re prepared to damn all Muslims by saying the Koran is full of savagery so therefore it’s acceptable to call them savages, then you have to condemn Richard Dawkins, someone who admits to being culturally Christian, for being a homophobic (Leviticus 20:13), evolution-denying (Genesis) theist who would be willing to sacrifice his own offspring if a voice told him to (I dunno, but it’s somewhere near the front).

Mona Eltahawy was a member of the Progressive Muslim Union of North America, is a critic of Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood, campaigns against female genital mutilation and advocates for women’s rights in the Arab world. In other words, hardly the Islamist-supporting, brainwashed lunatic you’re attempting to portray her as. Rather, she’s exactly the sort of person members of this site should be lauding and trying to get on our side. However, if you prefer to ally yourself philosophically with far-right hate groups, that’s your own business, and there’re plently of folks on this site who’ll agree with you. Just wait til the next Pat Condell video is posted!

I agree with Katy Cordeth: Lack of editing capability is annoying. “Insane man kills innocent man.” should be “Insane woman kills innocent man.”, and “… he described the anti-islamic movement as comparing Muslims to gremlins” should be “… he accused the anti-islamic movement of comparing Muslims to gremlins.”

  5. There may be anti Muslim violence in America – but this is not it, is it.

This is a woman with obvious mental health issues who was tracked down and arrested within a short space of time.

Murtaza Hussain could have written an article on immigration and poverty, its effects on health in the communities it causes conflicts within, and how this is policed – the fact that he chose this poor woman as his example of anti Muslim violence in America is telling, and somewhat cheap.

If he wanted to see a by-product of bigotry and demonisation he has only to look at the comments generated by his article at Al Jazeera.

    Anvil.

  6. “Anti-Muslim violence in America” sure but have you seen the Anti-Muslim violence in Muslim countries? My advice to all Muslims, right after loose the stupid, is move to any non-Muslim country they’re all lots safer and more civilised!

  7. The fact that she said “Muslims and Hindus” would indicate that this woman probably hates anyone in a turban, including Sikhs, Zoroastrians, Korla Pandit, Sam The Sham, and occasionally, Johnny Carson. I’m having difficulty believing what she said about spending the last 11 years “beating them up.” You simply couldn’t get away with that sort of thing for over a decade without accumulating a lengthy police record. My guess is that once they dig deeper into who this Menendez woman is, they probably will find an extensive list of psychiatric facilities she has been committed to over the last few years.

If you think it repugnant to support civilization against savagery; or Israel against jihad, does that mean that you support jihad, and the Islamic goal of destruction of Israel?

  9. Other points- “Israeli culture being superior to that of the Palestinians” I have no truck with Romney but this statement is factual, despite your leftist political correctness. Palestinians elected Hamas to represent them which they have done with thousands of Iranian supplied rockets aimed at Israeli civilians (and suicide bombers); their charter demands the destruction of Israel and death to all Jews- this is your idea of ‘culture’??

I’m amazed at your naivete and that of the 18 readers who agree with you

  10. KC;

We wondered what you were getting at with your attempted analogy between Dawkins and a moderate Muslim:-

If you’re prepared to damn all Muslims by saying the Koran is full of savagery so therefore it’s acceptable to call them savages, then you have to condemn Richard Dawkins, someone who admits to being culturally Christian, for being a homophobic (Leviticus 20:13), evolution-denying (Genesis) theist who would be willing >to sacrifice his own offspring if a voice told him to (I dunno, but it’s somewhere near the front).

Let me try to help. Your idea is apparently that the Bible and the Koran are both full of evil ideology. So therefore a cultural Christian like RD is no better than his equivalent in Islam:- ie, a cultural Muslim who is not a terrorist. So if we condemn the one then we should also condemn the other.

Just a few slight problems with this logic.

No-one is condemning all Muslims. Just those who are acting in some way in support of jihad savagery against others.

And; it’s not merely the existence of violent supremacist passages in Islamic texts that we should deplore. These things also exist in Old testament Christianity, and we deplore them there too.
What is worse is that in Islam there are many more such passages, more horrific and because they are more prescriptive in nature, there will always be those who obey such messages and fight ‘for the sake of Allah’. In Islam there is no amelioration of Old Testament morality, such as is found in the NT with the Sermon on the Mount and the clemency against stoning (let he who is without sin…) etc.
On the contrary, the great Islamic exemplar of morality, Mohammed himself, sought to reinstate all those grotesquely savage OT punishments, just as his true followers still do to this day.

So this is where we are: stuck with a lot of angry, literalist Muslims who are convinced of their righteous duty to kill for Allah; and many more cultural, non-violent Muslims who, by failing to reform the faith (knowing the extreme risks attached), or leave it (ditto), are effectively supporting their more violent co-religionists.

So yes, you should worry about far-right hate groups.

But not the kind like EDL or Jihad Watch, who are actually fighting for human rights; rather the ones who wish to take away those rights ‘for the sake of Allah’.

  11. I fear that worse even than the Islamist threat is the PC ignorance that defends and enables it. These extremists quite openly and proudly make demands on societies they despise and aim to destroy, while apologists aid and abet them! Maybe our approach is so stupid that democracies don’t deserve to exist.
We have been through this before, haven’t we? The similarities between Hamas, Hizbullah, Islamic Jihad, etc and Fascism/Nazism are striking but here may not be the place for that debate.

That’s a gross over-simplification of why Hamas ended up being elected. You are aware, for example, that they were funded in the 1980s by Israel to strengthen their hand against the PLO? What’s happening in the occupied territories now is, technically, blow-back.

  13. So what? Does that change the argument in any way? How is it people can gloss over the fact HAMAS is a terrorist group, or put up fatuous justifications? Same thing has happened repeatedly- in Afghanistan with Taliban and the warlords, Pakistan with the ISI and laksh-e (whatever they’re called) and other places I can’t bring to mind right now. Lesson being, do NOT make ‘allies’ of Islamists; a taipan would make a more reliable partner.

Its worth remembering being Muslim doesn’t make you an Islamist.

The biggest catastrophe is that Clinton failed to make an ally of Sunni Ahmad Shah Massoud. Bush did but way too late.

More about Massoud, a towering freedom fighter and humanitarian.

If the west hadn’t been playing political chess, and focused on the simple morality of what was unfolding on the ground, formed that alliance years earlier and supported the man, hugely popular with the people, then maybe the third millenium could have been started with a cloudless sky and Muslims (and we) could have had another Mandela.

EDIT, Oops! Old thread. Thought it looked familiar. Stet.

NO! That’s what has caused the problems in Europe and USA and everywhere else that Islam goes.
Misery, conflict and death is the reward for embracing these people

  15. In reply to #5 by Katy Cordeth:

Does the bigotry we should defeat include the bigotry we see against non-Muslims in the Qur’an? Also, wondering if we get paid jizya extortion fees in exchange for our “tolerance”?

    Thanks!

FYI, “culturally Christian” isn’t necessarily Christian, and you’re in the wrong end of the Bible. Try Matthew 5:21-48. Not much Islam in there.
