  1. ApexDisorder, I’m not sure I understand your point. Are you saying there was something false in RD’s speech or that it wasn’t just a vid of him speaking? I’ve seen lots of those, can’t complain about this or having it sitting around the internet for a questioning theist to stumble upon.

    Good job.

  2.  I like propaganda style vids. Nothing wrong with propaganda. There is nothing manipulative or subliminal about this.

I’m critical of Dawkins content which comes from debates or antagonistic conversations. He does not have that skill (as say Hitchens did). However, he is extremely eloquent in other settings (as I assume this video is an example of). His pearls benefit not only theists who stumble upon them, but also help articulate the thoughts and feelings of atheists.

  3. Richard Dawkins….  I understand all the point you make in this and other videos, and I agree with the majority of points you make… but here is where we differ.

You claim child indoctrination into religion is the main reason for societies ill… and I say religion indoctrination for kids has a lower priority.  I suggest the main reason some end up being religious crazy is due to child abuse, neglect, miss treatment, which creates all kind of mental disabilities that leads them to create a fantasy world devoid of reality, and religion just takes advantage of that….  If you remove religion, other things will fill its place, like supernatural, football legends, etc. Etc..

I recently stumbled across a book by “Dorothy Rowe” titled “My dearest enemy, my dangerous friend”, which confirmed what I thought all along…..

Majority of people are not crazy and stupid, they just prefer to create their own dreams and live in them to stop the pain they have endured at some stage or another….

Richard, you where indoctrinated with religion when you were little, but you survived it?? What other reasons made you say.. “I don’t need to live a dream… let me enjoy reality??”

I was indocrinated by religion as a child and into my teens. My father was agnostic and didn’t attend church. My mother was religious and although she took me to church did not preach to me mainly because as a woman she was excluded from what I was being taugh as a young teenager. No my indocrination was from my religion exculsively. The nightmares of hell, the constant mind control I attempted on myself to bring myself in line with the religious doctrines where all down to my religion. In fact my religion tried pretty hard to remove all other infulences from my life, semonary at 6:30 am before school, various home visits, numerous church based socials, even their own scout troop, you could spend every day of your life at some church event or another. My parents (both now athiests) were never abusive or neglectful. In my opinion and my exerience, religion can and does cause any number of ills in society.

Are you suggesting it cannot or just that is doesn’t. Either way, I’d be interested to here what your evidence is that it doesn’t or cannot.

  4. Hi voiceofarabi: “I suggest the main reason some end up being religious crazy is due to child abuse, neglect, miss treatment, which creates all kind of mental disabilities that leads them to create a fantasy world devoid of reality, and religion just takes advantage of that….”

I think that childhood religious indoctrination is child abuse, neglect (of real education) & mistreatment (by religiots), which lays the groundwork for blindly believing things without evaluation & following orders without logic or evidence – which can lead to other versions of mind-damaging, obsessive, harmful, supernatural inclinations.

If parents didn’t – or weren’t forced to – sub-contract so much of their child-rearing duties & education to sky fairy myth businesses, the children could end up much healthier psychologically, be better prepared, and more capable of being stable productive adults.

Religions have had many centuries of memeplex evolution to more successfully inject their viruses into families, so that it is difficult to separate the religion from what parents should be showing & teaching their offspring.

This is even more damaging where less free & poorly educated societies prevent the parents & children from getting exposure to better ways of thinking, or knowledge of how reality works.

  5. Lovely message. I was brought up to believe that i was a catholic child. Shackles broke at 23 and my 1st born is due 23rd of this month. I will fight to protect my childs right to make his/her own mind up on all lifes matters.

  6. Propaganda? Richard Dawkin’s words have been added to what I think is a beautifully illustrated clip by YouTube’s dogmaticCURE. The images provide some perspective that I don’t think is unreasonable. The music give it a little drama. It is a very sad, wicked thing to brainwash children. I urge you to watch dogmaticCUURE’s other submissions. I believe there is a Hitchens video in the works.

  7. Saying Richard survived religious indoctrination says nothing about the BILLIONS of people who are still tethered to the religion of their parents. Some of my friends who were raised in secular households, or at least raised non-religious do struggle with a lack of Biblical education–the literary references, understanding of the parables and often referenced accounts of Jewish and Christian history. Regardless, what these friends aren’t missing is the anxiety, the shame, overblown judgement, and personal guilt that comes from being raised religious. Where is your imagination that you can’t imagine an upbringing without religious indoctrination? Think of all the subjects young mind could have been exploring.

  8. Children need education. They don’t need to be told they are bad, greedy, selfish, or any trait which they have gained from the human race. Children need to know the facts of live and not some “Sky Daddy” who judges them to be nasty little sinners. This can only happen in America. Those Crazy relgious morons ought to be ashamed of themselves.
