Consensus? – Science Talks 16-Nov, ExCel London

0

On 16 November 2013 ExCel London will host Richard Dawkins, psychologist Richard Wiseman, and palaeontologist Richard Fortey, joined by the extraordinary hirsute polymath and comedian Bill Bailey.

Hosted by Quentin Cooper, former presenter of Radio 4's Material World, the whole-day event comprises individual talks followed by a group discussion entitled 'Evolution, the Meaning of Life, and other Trivial Matters.'

Uber-geek physicist musician Jonny Berliner will play some of his geek-pop tunes, covering such diverse subjects as Alfred Russel Wallace, genetics, and the Higgs boson.

Run by science charity Entangled Bank, the event will raise money for a bronze statue of Alfred Russel Wallace, co-discoverer of evolution by natural selection, to stand in London's Natural History Museum. Any excess funds will go to related science charities.

You can even buy tickets for an after-party at the Linnean Society of London, to be attended by the presenters and many other people involved with the 'Wallace 100' celebrations.  It was at the Linnean Society in 1858 that the Darwin and Wallace papers outlining the theory of Evolution by Natural Selection were first read. The world would never be the same again.

I’m a huge fan of Bill Bailey, but not because of his math skills ;)

I don’t always get the meaning of emoticons, but are you saying you’re Bill Bailey’s lover?

  1. I am really disappointed and astonished to find that I can only book tickets in pairs for this event.

I have to go on my own to this event, as none of my friends are interested, but the telephone help line confirmed to me that tickets are not available singly.

Please explain the reason behind this & advise if I can buy a single Standard Tiered ticket. I have been looking forward to this event for months!

UPDATE: You can now buy single tickets. That was a short BOGOF offer which was causing confusion. It has now been removed.

There’s a special last-minute offer of everything half price. Grab it now while it lasts!

There are also a few tickets left for the private reception at the Linnean Society in Piccadilly, after the main event ends. Bollinger Champagne, a Malayan Jungle buffet, a private viewing of extraordinary Wallace memorabilia including his original notebooks, and the chance to chat to the presenters. Join us to celebrate the success of the statue fund!

  2. You still haven’t explained how I buy one ticket?

This is a special, last-minute, BOGOF (buy-one-get-one-free) offer on all tickets. The ticket agent’s software does not make that clear we know, but they’re not able to fix…
