I had a good laugh at Richard’s impression of Ben Stein. For some reason there’s something very amusing about an Englishman doing a dead-on American accent.

Richard definitely has an ear! I’m really enjoying this interview.

  1. And I can’t wait for Richard’s new hate mail video. Maybe instead of relaxing by the fire he’ll be at the seaside with a beautiful sunset.

And also, wow, there aren’t gummy bears in England? And of course there’s the Gummi Bears cartoon which, despite its title, had nothing to do with candy and was actually well-written for a children’s cartoon.

On the basis of pure common sense Richard has acquired a serious fan club amongst American thinkers!

Common sense, like American thinkers, is still unfortunately as rare as hen’s teeth, but I like it that he’s making an impact.

  2. Bloody marvellous. His description of how RNA may have co-ordinated events between DNA and protein was pretty special. I still don’t know if I want to read his memoirs. What does that say about me having read (and re-read) some of his earlier books?

  3. Reading the hate mail publicly is just giving a voice to the trashy ignorant idiots who write it ……
Why not share the most impressive letters and questions from positive, logical and reasonable people instead…..and ignore the haters like they deserve…..

Because some times the hate mail can be really funny.

I get that ….but really…! insults and expletives ….I’d be bored after the first two….

  4. Richard is going to be on Q on CBC radio with Jian Gomeshi sometime in the next week This is about the biggest exposure you can get in radio in Canada. He will be talking about one of his new books. Details are not yet published. Jian does not usually do books. He mostly does painful musicians and actors and famous people generally. Normally book interviews are very long and done by Eleanor Wachtel or Sheila Rogers.

  5. What about the reproductive value of feeling irrational infinite love and hope and presence and meaning when your evolved rational brain tells you, in the dreadful circumstances of pre-historical life, that there is no hope, no presence, no meaning and no love for you ? Not a by-product. Only the strict evolutionary value of a short-circuit in the brain : religious ecstasy.
