Rajesh And Nupur Talwar Found Guilty Of Killing Daughter In Case That Captivated India

An Indian court on Monday found a dentist couple guilty of murdering their 14-year-old daughter and a servant five years ago, in a dramatic finale to a case that transfixed the country and tapped unease on both sides of the rich-poor divide.

Aarushi Talwar was found with her throat slit at the family home in Noida, an affluent town of new shopping malls and offices near Delhi, in 2008. A day later, the body of the family servant, Hemraj, was discovered.

Rajesh and Nupur Talwar were convicted in a local court in Ghaziabad, near Noida, and remanded in custody ahead of sentencing on Tuesday.

Naresh Yadav, a lawyer present in court, told reporters waiting outside that the couple and members of their family broke down in tears when the verdict was read out.

Early in the investigation, police alleged Rajesh had murdered his daughter and servant in a rage after finding them in a compromising situation – the kind of crime more often associated with rural, conservative parts of India where "honour killings" are not uncommon.

  1. No mention of the evidence that was used, only that they followed it. Hard to form an opinion. They do seem more concerned with their name and their justice than their daughters; however.

  2. Usually parents wait for the pregnancy test results before having anyone murdered.

Almost every person at some point in their life has sex with someone their parents would not like. This is an ordinary event. Chill out.

      According to wikipedia,

"The Noida double murder case refers to the murder of 14-year old Aarushi Talwar and 45-year old Hemraj,
a domestic help employed by her family, in Noida, India."

If a servant or someone I had hired to babysit my daughter had sex with her, or molested her or fondled her,
then I most certainly would be furious. Except it wouldn’t be at my daughter!

This is a really dodgy case and I don’t think its as clear cut as the article would have others believe.

  3. Shedding tears for themselves, were they? What about those two people who were robbed of their lives in such a brutal manner? And what gives them the right to play judge, jury and executioner. They must rot in jail.

  4. I am very very confused. If the notion of “honor killing” is still persisting in this family, why wasn’t the mother killed for going to grade school (presumably about 40 YEARS ago), then high school, then college, then dental school?????

SHE got to become affluent and educated? Affluent enough to have SERVANTS? And her daughter has her throat slit for diddling the help?
