Masood Ahmad is a member of the Ahmadi sect, subject to widespread intimidation and banned from describing themselves as Muslims

A British doctor is languishing in a Pakistani prison accused of "posing as a Muslim" after being videoed reading aloud from the Koran.

Masood Ahmad, 72, is a member of the minority Ahmadi sect, who are declared non-Muslims under the terms of the country's constitution and subject to widespread discrimination, violence and abuse.

They can face up to three years in prison if convicted of posing as a Muslim, a symptom of Pakistan's intolerance towards religious minorities.

Dr Ahmad was arrested in the eastern city of Lahore last month after two men secretly filmed him reading a translation of a verse from the Koran.

They had posed as patients at a clinic run by Dr Ahmad and after receiving medications stayed to ask religious questions.

    • Worse yet, he apparently read from the ingredient list. The heresy! Stuff like this…what utterly obnoxious and toxic bullshit.

My brand of cornflakes is better than your brand of cornflakes. How dare you suggest your brand is even cornflakes!
      What utter stupidity! jcw

  1. So, how the hell are you expected to become a Muslim if you can’t even read the book that tells you why you should be a Muslim? Are you meant to take this crap on faith? They kill people for leaving, they kill people for joining… sounds like bullshit to me.

  2. The poorest countries in the world manage to spend money to pursue and prosecute so called religious crimes. How many medical supplies could be bought with the cost of this persecution. Yet, if he had molested a young girl they would slap his hands and stone her or allow her family to murder her.

  3. This tribal attitude is common among the various abrahamic sects and cults of xtianity and islam. Any excuse whatsoever to declare themselves the true path and reject variations on some arbitrary nonsense. The sunnis and shites, the protestants, catlicks, mormons and witnesses have been at it for ages. Even some extreme minorities rejected the main streams, like the Plymouth brethren. Grandiose imbeciles the lot of ‘em. Fighting over ideas as fanciful as the rules of quidditch.

Ah! The wrong sort of Muslim. -
When the Shia and Sunni versions of the “religion of peace” are not fighting and killing each other, they are abusing the Ahmadi sect!

  5. The black comedy is : Muslims think they deserve respect!
This type of nauseating respect is demanded by so called liberal progressives.
Persecution of others seems to be a necessary part of Muslim culture.

  6. a rather cowardly act of entrapment too. actually requesting someone reads a passege from the koran can make them a criminal in such a lawless place. presumibly had he chosen not to read the passage they’d have film footage of his apostacy

  7. No question about it. Islam is unique. I’ve got a sneaking suspicion that if a gentile were to walk around Israel wearing a yarmulke, he would not be arrested for impersonating a Jew, nor would anyone riding a bicycle while wearing a white shirt and tie in Utah be arrested for impersonating a Mormon.

      Give it time.

  8. Great, by their own making, they lost the only nobel laureate for physics?

    Abdus Salam

Second Amendment to the Constitution of Pakistan

A person who does not believe in the absolute and unqualified finality of The Prophethood of Muhammad (Peace be upon him), the last of the Prophets or claims to be a Prophet, in any sense of the word or of any description whatsoever, after Muhammad (Peace be upon him), or recognizes such a claimant as a Prophet or religious reformer, is not a Muslim for the purposes of the Constitution or law.

  9. Hmm. On the one hand, this is stupid and terrible.

On the other, he’s a doctor, and he really should have had the gumption to read up on the place before he went there. My sympathies, but so far he is well on his way to earning a Darwin Award.

Sure, blame the victim for an idiotic law.
Do the words “secretly filmed” mean anything to you?
