  1. ok, this is very unfortunate.. very disappointed for the “trick”. this way of promoting all what we want to is not good at all. After reading almost all of RD books, this marketing trick is very cheap and not consistent at all with the message…

  2. It’s called affiliating and it’s not free. I would proudly and gladly promote this website and almost all it’s content, apart from the one above.
Now I can make a fake account and get it for free as promised and trick you as you did to me. However – I’m better than this, I’ll wait for the book.

    Thanks for honesty.

If you’ve got a Kindle its $13 or you can read it on a computer or laptop with kindle software.

  3. With all kinds of regauarding respect I’m astonished by all the negative response. First of all: BUY THE BOOK! Are we really this “everything for free society”! I hate it! I will buy it and read it because I love reading books and the author (thank you very much Dr. Dawkins, I just finished your “The God Delusion” and although I knew a lot of the content from the web and my own discussions in the field, I enjoyed it very much. Besides a happy new year and all the best wishes for you, your family and your work) although prominent and surely not poor deserves a payment for his work! And second: this site is wonderful and it is not a harm for your friends to come here and play this litle game … it’s at least only an appetizer and maybe somone profits from learning something here!

I don’t think people are complaining because they weren’t given the book for free, Joseph. They’re pissed because this supposed gift is a ploy to sell copies. It’s what’s known as a ‘teaser’: give the punters a taste for the product and they’ll pony up for the whole thing. Crack dealers do this, too.
I haven’t bought this book but the only way the first chapter could be considered a gift is if it so execrable, no one in her right mind would fork out for the remainder of the thing.

Like l43lkr0l, I would happily promote the site for nothing, but if RDFRS want existing members to shill for them, perhaps a Foundation t-shirt or something else from the online store would be a more appropriate ‘gift’. Or even entire digital copies of Richard’s older books.

    An appetite for blunder, guys?

  6. I would highly recommend the audiobook version, which I thought was fantastic. I have been painting in Taos for a few weeks and listened to it on morning walks. So much more personal hearing it in the voice of the author and his wife — like hearing someone tell their story to you themselves on a long train ride. It held my interest the entire way through and would have been interesting even if I didn’t know who Richard Dawkins was for the look into a time and place so unique from the Chicago I grew up in.
