Everyone support this. Watch E. O. Wilson's TED Talks video if you haven't. His appreciation and love of life and all its mysteries should be an inspiration to everyone.

avatarI heard about this on Pharyngula. Hugely ambitious, but if there was ever a time when technology allowed for such a project, it's now! The idea of an essentially peer-reviewed wiki (except in this case, with experts, if I've got my facts straight) with scalable detail is head-explodingly, tear-jerkingly fantastic.
I can't wait for it to get up and running.

I look forward to the announcement for the Encyclopedia of Creation, a rival project funded by creationist think-tanks to counter EOL's liberal, evolutionist bias.

avatarOne of the most important projects ever. Signed up offering my services as a proof reader. They are going to need a lot of foot soldiers to make this work.

The link now sits in my Science favorites folder. This is pretty cool. And I agree with supporting it in any way possible.

avatarExcellent idea, I have long thought highly of Ed Wilson and will do whatever I can to support this with time, effort and money.

[Edit] I just thought that Attenborough could provide invaluable help here.

avatarI wonder if someone has collared Templeton on this matter, see if they can get him to spend some money on something useful for a change.

avatarI think the easily navigable taxonomy that was demo'd in the video would be fantastic - it would have made "The Ancestors Tale" really come to life if it had been available when I read it.

I did make the suggestion when I registered on EOL that they should use Cameron Diaz as the subject for the Homo Sapiens page. Mmmmm

Sounds interesting. Will it have animals that are extinct in the encyclopedia?

 avatarBrilliant, brilliant, brilliant!

>Will it have animals that are extinct in the encyclopedia?

If you type them in you'll get "404 Not Found"

Brilliant. As in the original meaning of brilliant - shining a light.

Fantastic. As in the original meaning of fantastic - from the Greek, to make things visible.

As Robert Maynard says (#39338), now we just have to wait for the inferior creationist rip-off.

avatarWow,this looks pretty amazing. We live in a radical age of exponential change. Most of the things central to my life didn't even exist 5 or 10 years ago.

Skype, youtube, librivox, bittorrent, wikipedia, this site, google, wifi, google earth, 24 mbits a second at home ..... the list is endless. Damn exciting.

The Creationists are getting more devious, even they are evolving.
I think Darwin will do for me for the time being.
