avatarsame one i think. But that was 17 or so separate short YouTube videos...this seems to be one segment taken from the original.

avatarYes, it is the same interview. Since seeing RD on Book-TV, I've made it a habit of checking the schedule for C-SPAN on sundays when Book-TV is on most of the day. I got lucky and caught the Hitchens interview just as it started. I highly recommend watching it.

avatarI love Hitchens!! But I would also like to see more RD and more Sam Harris. I am really looking forward to the Atheist Convention at the end of this month. Does anyone know or have you heard if Josh is going to have a link for all of us to watch and enjoy?

I hope so.

PS If you all like to write and want to submit your work for peer reviews please go to www.lifelenz.com Plus my story is featured on their front page. I am pretty stoked about it! I know its a shameless plug, but I am honored to have been selected.

avatarIs this video available for offline viewing? My connection is pretty erratic and I'm afraid that my stream will buffer every 5 seconds...

Well, yes and no. Someone has been kind enough to supply us with a direct rtsp:// link. Whether you play or save that link is up to you.

I strongly doubt that RealPlayer will let you save, though. And depending on what an "erratic" connection is (will it disconnect, or is it just slow?), you may or may not be able to save the stream anyway.

But if you're willing to give it a try, "mplayer", which I use, can save streams. You might have to use the command line (the -dumpstream option), and/or experiment a bit.

avatarOK, http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-749136266511341921&hl=en will get you the whole thing in one go. Maybe paste it into http://keepvid.com/ or use an off-line tool like TubeTV to download and convert if the direct download link from Google doesn't work.

 avatarTheocrapcy:

The show I was referring to is the one at Randolph-Macon Woman's College in Lynchburg, Virginia. It wasn't actually an interview, it was part of the God Delusion book tour. I'm sure you have already seen it. If not, it's here.

Hitch is a star, and I can watch/listen to him as much as time allows. I had been watching this programme in 10 minute snippets on youtube. Thanks for the complete show!

 avatarSplendid!

Just finished reading God Is Not Great. Hitchens is the sharpest polemicist we've got going for us right now.

avatarThis has given me a new respect for the opinions, the thoughts, the reasoning behind CH's ideals. Once again, I fully respect RD and am grateful!, and for and CH for allowing/giving these discussions.

They are not the 'product of... they are the result of...'!

Marxism is a METHOD of thinking....

CH's personal challenge for "debate"! going against the traditional "book trails."

I respect CH and RD for allowing this!

I could go on for "many points" regarding positives. But I want everyone, if you want to LEARN about CH, and then perhaps RD.

Frankly, the only negative I have is my personal inability to find an effective way to pause, to re-listen to all points.

CH - and therefore RD brings these many points, these many ideas to the forefront.

I am in favor of reproductive choice, and agree that this should be the LAST option, but should still be kept as an option, CH and RD have never represented themselves as being ANTI-choice or PRO-life. It seems to me that both are pro-choice.

This discussion also brings to light that financial independence (which is the ultimate survival mechanism - if you can't sell, you can't buy, if you can't buy you can't sell) for any country, for any society currently. A lot of societies are based upon GREED, self-preservation, versus communal or societal preservation.

So many points, so "little" time!

At 72 I thought I was through with Groupie-ism but I have been fascinated by CH since my days as a flaming Leftie when he wrote for The Nation and would deliver some of the greatest columns I have ever been privileged to read, especially in his repartee with Alex Cockburn. This 3 hours was a Hitchens tour de force and I was mesmerised by his astounding intellect as well as his virtuoso mastery of the English language...as usual. Truth be told, I am on this site primarily for links to every golden Hitchens word. Like many of us he says much of what we think on a daily basis...but he says it SO much better!

THANKS, HITCH!
