Video Highway to hysteria

PZ Myers, Pharyngula

PZI swear, they're trying to see how stupid they can get before my head explodes. Read Isaiah 35:8:

And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein.

Obviously, to any brain-dead literal-minded pismire of an evangelical Christian, that is a reference to I-35, the interstate that cuts through Minnesota and Texas. Obviously. Never mind that unclean PZ Myers has driven on it quite often, or that this is the road with the bridge that collapsed, or heck, that it is just a long piece of concrete with trucks blatting out nasty hot gasses all day long.

Good god.

Don't watch this video unless you've got an awesome tolerance for high-density super-concentrated stupid and dancing howling raving demented fuckwits. This is America, land of prophecies, dreams, and visions taken as insight, where imaginary demons and angels are supposedly fighting over a strip of pavement.

Must rest. Intracranial pressure rising…rising…rising…

How long has I-35 been around? And they're just now jumping on this?

Someone please find and interview that "reformed" gay man about a year from now... let's see if he maintains his new 'holy' ways.

avatarWhat is truly chilling is that this is exactly the same nonsense I grew up with. In those days of course, bar codes were Satans method of choice to mark you with the number of the beast, today it's rfid tags.

Incredible, sobering and down right humiliating to think I was one of these people.

avatarive yet to watch the video but it got me thinking.

The next time you have a religious moderate beating you up because you are an atheist or accept evolution you can offer them a challenge.

Take them to the computer and ask them to locate some pro atheist material that would actually make you (the atheist) say 'oh jees, they are just so crazy, thats appauling thats not me, thats a very scary atheist and we are not all like that' then do the equivalent for them with some theistically driven madness, you know maybe jesus camp, this video (i guess), that crazy woman on wife swap, or even some actual decapitation footage if you want to get the message across more forcefully

I guarantee you will be showing them a lot more links than they will be showing you. This is a take on the hitchen challenge but its one that could be quite fun after a few drinks (i personally would not bring up any actual murders but could at least threaten to show them, they are there to be seen after all).

Its sooo hard not to meet these people and tell them to their faces how utterly, completely stupid they are - with the exception of Pat Robertson, who is a genuine, cynical, snake oil...no he's stupid, too.

As a gay man and atheist I was particularlly concerned over the Christian attack tactics at the gay bar. I was especially sickened by the gay man who said that he felt god "taking away his homosexuality"-yeah right, let's check back with this guy in a couple weeks. I fear for my country.

Amazing to me that most ex-gays claim it takes years to "recover" from homosexuality, but this guy did it at the touch of a street preacher? I doubt it.

Why is it that god is happy to cure the gay people but refuses to help war vets grow back limbs?

I live a mile from the intersection of I-80 and I-35. Why hasn't anyone tried to lay hands on me? I've always wondered what that laying hands on stuff does to someone. Do they push you over or do you just fall on your own? The one guy without the shirt didn't seem to know what the proper procedure was for the recipient of the laying on of hands. Will a FAQ pamphlet be provided before the laying on of hands? Are you judged on how well you pass out? I could end up on Youtube as a conversion blooper and be a laughing stock. DAMN IT, I DON'T WANT TO WASTE MY FIFTEEN MINUTES OF FAME ON AN INTERNET VIDEO OF ME TRIPPING OVER A PARKING PYLON AFTER SOMEONE LAYS HANDS ON ME. That's it, time to move.

avatarIt should be obvious, to any right-thinking Christian, that the passage actually refers to the A35 in England. This tarmac of Satan runs between Poole (a thinly disguised reference to 'poole of one's own filth') and Honiton (an anagram, in the original Greek, of the word 'strumpet'). I hesitate to provide a link to this pathway of perversion but, as any of you with strong stomachs will attest, it needs holy saving, and it needs it NOW!

didn't the guy in the video seem to encourage "putting churches on fire"

You, know, that's interesting, i'm assuming he's using a metaphor here, which means he knows what a metaphor is, yet he can't figure out that the book he bases his whole life on is just a collection of symbolic metaphors...and where does this lead you? to the sides of a highway, amazing

avatarThe highway of holiness…certainly for drugs. I-35 is a main artery (!) for drug trafficking and has been for many years.

I live amongst these bug-wits and they are exactly as they appear in the video clip. It is difficult not to feel like a prisoner or undercover spy or even an insurgent with all their talk of being warriors in god's battle.

You know.. after watching this it baffles me as to why Christians are so concerned about publicly offending Muslims... thereby having the rage of Mo bestowed upon them. If they had their heads lopped off it is something they would not miss and could still function for years.

avatarPlease, Wikipedia, bring back your definition of Poe's Law and extend it to cover film clips.

(Poe's Law currently says something like: any fundamentalist religious website is indistinguishable from a joke fundamentalist religious website. Or is it vice versa? Has anyone got a better version? I don't like the one that mentions a winking smiley.)

Religion - an activity for consenting adults in private.

avatarFellow rationalists, atheists and clear-thinking individuals:

Our work here is done! We've won! :-)

Anyone with a semblance, nay modicum, of intelligence watching that awful piece of tripe can only come to the conclusion that those people are sick, demented and deluded to the point of being dangerous - and should be locked up accordingly.

Can we get this piece onto the mainstream news? These people deserve to be ridiculed.
