A Letter From Hell

You've heard of the "Jesus Camp" and "Hell House" scare tactics used on children? Well, here's another addition to this unfortunate list. My 12 year old son (a non-believer all by himself, without any help from me) was given this link by a school friend who's going around trying to convert his classmates to Christianity. This video "A Letter From Hell" is a truly frightening, scare-the-kids-into-believing 'message'. A warning: It will both anger and sicken you.

Humbly submitted for your viewing displeasure,
~Carmine Bello

They are desperate. This looks more like a video to scare Christian children into evangelizing than anything else.

avatarTHAT was supposed to be terrifying? Really? I've had sandwiches more terrifying than that! (although Wadham College canteen sandwiches are pretty terrifying)

I'm guessing this is supposed to be aimed at young adults old enough to drink and drive, which would make them what, about 17 or 18? Are they telling me that a modern seventeen year old would find this even remotely scary? A seventeen year old who, in all probability, would have been watching Terminator films at twelve, playing Resident Evil and listening to thrash house goth metal or whatever passes for music among the young and disaffected these days? (I learned the word "emo" the other day - fascinating, sort of like low sugar goth. Aren't I still hip and with it kids! What do you mean no?)

Seems to me like the christians shot themselves in the foot by complying with their own ridiculously tame standards of taste and decency for this video. Oh the irony!

Edit - Christian kids must be really immature. I've sent this around the world for the enjoyment of others. Would this have scared me? WAHAHAHAHAHAH! Yeah, right! (incidently, one of the few double positives making a negative). C'mon, how soft can you get!

avatarChristians certainly know how to use narrative--with its ability to suspend skepticism for the sake of a story--and visuals that tap into our disposition to grant instant credibility to what we see--seeing is believing.

While I applaud Dawkins,Dennett,Harris and Hitchens for their works addressing people at an intellectual level. Perhaps the most good will come when someone can write a great atheist narrative and fight brimstone with brimstone--or perhaps not.

I can't say much about this being disgusting or sick, even by evangelical standards, since I was bored just 2 minutes into it and stopped watching. Although I will say George Lucas should give them a call about their use of the word crawl at the beginning. Not necessarily because it rips off Star Wars, but because that was simply tacky and I've seen better dubbing on a Saturday afternoon Kung- Fu theater special.

If said 17- 18 year old was a child sequestered from the world and constantly told that every shadow held a demon or devil just waiting for a stray thought that didn't contain god to cross their mind so that they could drag this hopeless person down into the depths of hell for all eternity, they might find this rather scary. Sadly, I know too many people who were raised like that.

Maybe he was dictating the letter to a scribe angel who also delivered it.

 avatarExactly, info_dump.
Thatīs what I thought when I was told such things by the catholic nuns in kindergarden and early school.
(Some of them were also good actresses)
It scared me - away from any belief.
O.K, if the faithheads still use scare tactics, we can hope that it backfires in more children nowadays! One problem is when school systems are so bad that children lack an idea how to think straight - and perhaps this US home schooling has a perfect censorship effect (the parents who try this here in Continental Europe are always fanatics)
In the moment we have the bestseller effect on our side, I watched some children at the display shelf of the local library discussing TGDīs German translation and the question who is lying to them. I am not good in guessing age, not quite grownup height but no sign of puberty - what would that be, 10, 12?

I read some of the comments on the GodTube site about this video.... Some guy was so happy to have a video like this, so proud of his Christian morals in showing it to his CHILDREN... His 11, 9 and FOUR YEAR OLD children. That does in fact sound like child abuse to me.

Why do these freaks talk about their God being loving and gentle and kind... And then in the next breath go on about people being thrown to hell for not accepting jesus as their personal savior? The end of this sick film talks about a little girl. The narrator says he hears the little girls screams coming to him from Hell... What kind of God would throw a child into Hell for not worshiping him? How young does a child have to BE to not get thrown into hell according to these freaks? Is four too old? 3? Must a toddler's first word be "jesus" to prevent them being thrown into their Lake of Fire?

To the person who posted this - I hope your child's mind hasn't been corrupted by this disease, this text-adventure snuff-film. And I hope you find the child who gave him the link, and make SURE that child's parents get an extremely stern talking to - recruiting their own child to distribute filth like this is the height of Christian child-abuse and needs to be stamped out.

avatarFvcking Idiot. What kind of a 'tarded Moron is God anyway? If this is the way He works, then He has the brains of a walnut. Clearly Zack should burn in Hell for not telling Josh. Josh was innocent and he didn't do anything wrong, but Zack!! Oh, that Zack cretin knew better and he still didn't tell Josh. That's just evil. There's only one moral solution here, burn Zack in hell for ever and ever and ever.

Hmm. No that doesn't make any sense either....

avatarHow many unsaved-go-to-hell believers out there really believe what they profess? If you truly believe this as much as I believe I'm sitting at a computer and typing, then you'd have to be insane. Such is your reality that God lets people who happened to not hear enough about Jesus to take him seriously go to hell and suffer infinite torment. If this was reality to me, I'd be so mortified they would have to carry me to an asylum. What doublethink you have to wring your mind through to both believe this and yet ignore it enough to live your life reasonably normally.

What happened to people before Jesus, anyway? Everybody went to hell back then? They'd have to. Otherwise, what use is a Savior?

I find interesting that their point is that christian kid should have bothered to "tell his friends about Jesus, their personal saviour"; do they really want to admit to Heaven someone who couldn't be bothered to ask "Who's this Jesus of yours, anyway?" and gladly wishes instead to have some company in Hell? Really screams "Christian love" to me.

"Nevermind you're an opportunistic ass, we just want you to be in heaven too!"

No reason and no morals at all. As expected.

Healyhatman, you put your finger on at least one of the reasons I think this video should be shown to kids.

As a tool to illustrate the twisted, vicious desperation of the faithful, it's rather pithy, and used properly to engage children in an exercise in critical thinking is a rather useful addition to the anti-theist arsenal.

An unintentionally helpful educational contribution, in other words.

Best,

avatarI'm confused. If Hell is a place of eternal fire and torment, how did this guy write a letter?

a) Surely the paper would have combusted, destroying the letter.
b) Wasn't he was too busy being tortured and gnashing his teeth to take the time to write a letter?
c) I wasn't aware Hell had a postal service, although if it did, it would probably be quicker than Royal Mail.

Clearly the video should be removed, on the grounds that it is highly illogical.

avatar"Hell mail, 'cause you know your letter will arrive 4 years late" I mean, what better way to torment ppl than delivering their mail far too late?... ...well... ...why the hell (XD) else would hell need a postal service?!

the fact that I'm from the secular country Sweden, made it hard for me to really consider it serious. Felt like some movie teaser for some weird comedy show movie...a bit like the "Terminator and Jesus" thing.

I do however (nearly) realize it is real...but wtf guys (and girls), why blame it on his friend?! If God just would've really proved his own existence, everything would've been alright.

Was amazing how Josh managed to keep writing as he was carried to the flames and even as he was held over the flames, the writing would surely have been completely illegible.

Are we supposed to believe that this guy had been living in America all his life and never heard of Jesus!

What a Joke.

Well done to your son Carmine for seeing it for what it was. Good to see analytical thinking in one so young, i think if you start out with that outlook it is, in a manner of speaking, an ESS.

avatarApart from everything else that video is also hypocrisy because it says in the bible you can't communicate with anyone once you're in hell:

Luke 16:

[27] Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house:
[28] For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.
[29] Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.
[30] And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.
[31] And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.

This video had two parts

Up till 3:20, to me, the 'angels' 'jesus' and whoever else was working in this celestial place were acting out as bad guys like in a movie.
I was not feeling guilt or thought that I was watching a video promoting belief in jesus.
It sounded as a warning that there are deeply evil beings out there in the after life, selecting people based on their belief-profile, like nazis.

If opposing this is called anti-theism, then call me an anti-theist from now on.

Sorry, you're not a registered Democrat and you didn't give to Green Peace, we're going to put you in a holding cell and then have two PETA members escort you to a gas furnace, toss you in and slow roast you. You're allowed to dictate one letter out to the electorate while your skin blisters off..... the public and Republicans would have a frakin shit fit!
