Those book signing photos must have been from the next morning's meet and greet. I swear on the night of the lecture he was dressed much more casually whilst signing.

Growing uncritical of Dawkins would be irrational. Attacks on his character should be taken seriously, even if they make us wince a bit. Sigmund's suggestion that he's turning into a "rock idol" is not absurd; Richard is clearly not just a normal scientist anymore. The last thing I want is for this to evolve into a personality cult. Let's not get carried away.

If "The God Delusion" is "dumbed down" at all (which I think it is not) it would only be because Mr. Dawkins is reaching out to Christian readers. OK, that's a cheap shot, however, I do applaud his efforts to reach as wide an audience as possible. The fact that his book is among the top ten of every book list proves he is doing something right.

Dear Mr Dawkins,
I recently purchased your latest book "The God Delusion". It was most engaging, and it inspired me to go online and seek out this site. I have now been on the mailing list for two weeks and in that time, I have recieved three e-mails... all telling me to do my bit by purchasing ... "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins. Having presented a superbly argued case for the non-existance/ irrelevance of God(s), why on earth are you now cheapening the argument with e-mails of this Bakker/Falwell-esque variety. I own the bloody book, and I would like my future correspondences to impart something rather more substantial than multiple reminders to buy it again.

Thank You

Derek Murphy.

Richard, aside from writing brilliant books (including The God Delusion), has at the same time got to think of his retirement.
So, if, along with his scientific work and his battle against religious irrationalism, he manages to make a few bucks o the side for his retirement, then tickety-boo for him!
There probably wouldn't be one us - fortunate enough to be endowed with his talents - that would not be doing exactly the same thing.
