Woo! I'm excited. The secular organization I'm apart of at my university is hosting a showing of Flock of Dodos tomorrow. Should be very exciting!

Also, this is my favorite: http://media.richarddawkins.net/images/2008/darwinday/036_TravisMorgan.jpg

Hey guys (and, of course, gals), I am not a poet, and I do not pretend to be one :)

However, I made this impromptu attempt to convert the Christian’s imaginary god’s prayer into thanks for Darwin (and science, of course). It might rhyme if I had more time :)

Anyway, here goes…

Oh Darwin, who art gone now, remembered is thy name,
Thy kingdom evolves,
Thy knowledge solves,
On earth, and in now the heavens.

Give us this day, our daily truth,
And document the stupid,
For they know not from whence they came.

Give us this day, our bread of truth,
And science that supports me.

Lead us out of regression,
And into the light of progression.

For Darwin is the truth, the science, and the reason forever…

A-everyone!

Happy Darwin Day!

Happy D-Day to all. I hope that we can use this day to spread some reason. I started this morning by getting my brothers kids to ask their biology teachers about Mr Darwin, just to get things started.

avatarReally enjoyed reading all our cards!!!

How nice it would be instead of Halloween (or in addition to it, since it can be so much fun), to have D-Day evolve where folks go around dressed up as the creatures we have evolved from, where community halls would have delightful interactive learning 'seminars', etc. (welcome any ideas).

It was hard to pick a fave, but this is mine so far:

Hello and Happy Darwin Day to everyone!
I bow in respect to Darwin on behalf of my people, most of whom I regret are far from the civilized end of the evolutionary spectrum of human intellect. Darwin is very strange to the Middle East, not many know about him, and the few who actually do are blind-sighted by the hatred installed into them by their strongly held religious superstitions. So few are those who might know of this day, and fewer are those who celebrate it. Yet, I am warmed by the fact that my secular values bring me closer to everyone around the globe who enjoys this day to share our pride and joy of Darwin.

I want to thank Professor Dawkins for maintaining and evolving the Darwinian message, and for his educational work and efforts. I see in him the one whom we should celebrate as heartedly on this special day as we do Darwin.

Happy Darwin/Dawkins-Day to everyone.

This one is my favourite:

Aye, happy Darwin day to one and all!

In honour, I'm going to celebrate by taking the missus out to dinner tonight, then perhaps afterwards a spot of genetic recombination. (Shhh.. don't tell my genes we use contraception) !

avatarSend Hallmark.com a suggestion for Darwin Day 2009, the 200th anniversary. They always seem to leap on any excuse to create an event that can celebrated with cards.

Let's see which wins out, making money, or seeming to align themselves with atheists?

avatarI've gathered some of the ideas from above and added a few that I've seen elsewhere and started this list...Hope it "evolves" and many more variations are added on.

How to celebrate Darwin Day:

1. eat something you never tried before

2. Celebrate by trying to mate with individuals who display favourable survival characteristics. (genetic recombination)

3. go around dressed up as the creatures we have evolved from,

4. Hold interactive species learning 'seminars' etc.

5. Raise a cup of tea in his honour! (He married into the Wedgewood family, it seems only fair to salute with a tea cup!)

6. Take a beagle out for a long walk. Or if you see one, pet it. (better ask first if you may)

7. Get kids to ask their biology teachers about Mr Darwin, just to get things started.

8. If it is winter where you live, do not feed the birds but go watch them a bit.

PS. Cartomancer - perhaps you can arrange your tryst at a sperm donor clinic and enjoy the best of both worlds. "Sir did you bring any... inspirational material?" - "Yes, him."

LOL, are you serious? thats my (not)fantastic photoshop skills you are looking at, I was trying to get the "Jesus-Fish" look on it.. I did some more work on it, which made the point a little clearer, but I didnt send it in..

Here's the revamped version, again, sorry for my terrible PS/Gimp skills..
