Dumb.

Even if this weren't dumb as a doorknob, do we really need a video that degrades women on our free thinking oasis? Just a thought. Obviously I'm not calling for censor, but this seems out of place, no matter how many misogynistic frat boys gave it "rave reviews"

Way to reinforce the stereotype that atheism is something that only socially inept nerdy guys who can't relate to women as other than sexual objects are into!

Just my opinion, of course.

avatarI like girls, and girls in bikini's are even better, but I turned off this stupid video about halfway through. Besides the fact that it has terrible production quality, its also not funny.

The book does not sound much better. God's law violates due process? Ugh....

If his book is as half-witted as his ad, it's a huge setback.
He'll just be another idiotic strawman for the likes of D'souza and McGrath to dine off for years to come. And we'll have to clean up after.

I'm truly disappointed, and I've had to look elsewhere for gratification.

I just felt I should warn you all.

enough to make its point.

Not only yours. :-)

Also reinforces the ridiculous stereotype that girls never know how to fight. Let any scrap reduce to the wrestling stage and you have already lost.

avatarI've never understood the whole "girls fighting is hot" idea. I really don't see how. Especially with some douche bag onlookers. The only thing I can think of is that it is two straight women touching each other, while guys get to stand back and watch. I absolutely agree that that is demeaning to women.

Besides, I've seen girls fight before...it wasn't sexy at all. It was brutal.

I notice no one even says that about guys in wrestling, though I always found the idea of muscly greased up men play-fighting to be pretty gay. I've never understood how so many straight guys can like it. To my knowledge it isn't even something that is associated with gay guys liking it. Maybe that says more about me than wrestling.

A waste of space and time on this otherwise great website. There must be thousands of interesting articles on the web that deserve more attention.

But then again... mightn't it be important to know that stuff like this is out there? Hm...

Interesting that the book has been out (in both paperback and hardback) since at least June, but the Amazon listing has zilch editorial or customer reviews.

The short excerpt on the author's web site is reasonably entertaining and decently written, so it might be an OK book: http://www.geoffhenley.com/excerpt.htm

On the other hand he does seem obsessed with the sexy girls motif for hyping the book: http://www.geoffhenley.com/book.htm (scroll down for further video links)

Lame. I kept waiting for the witty pay off, the contrast, where the two hot women show they are smart and can have a intellectual debate.

I'm all for attractive people in skimpy clothes but count me among the people who find themselves un-sold on the idea of reading the book based on the fact that the author thought this over-long, poorly produced, unfunny ad was a good idea, so much so he created a smug press release around it.

Fail.

avatarThis seems like a slightly desperate and amatuerish attempt to promote his self published book. Good for him! He's already done more to promote rationality than I've ever done. He may do a much better job connecting to Joe Average than Richard, Christopher, Sam and Dan combined. Its not that I have high hopes for NASCAR dads, but they are a big block that would be nice to get a few percent of, over to rationality. He comes out of a group, the lawyers, that are naturals at being, on average, better communicators than your average science nerd type, which I consider myself to be. I hope his book is good, which there's no reason it shouldn't be, since he got the answer right.

39. Comment #236661 by Sargeist on August 25, 2008 at 3:05 am

avatarIt appears that following biological imperatives to find semi-clad women attractive actually leads to our treating them as nothing but objects for our own gratification, thereby reducing their worth as humans in their own right, and unavoidably perpetuating the view that women are some kind of property.

You know, I'd almost be convinced, if it weren't for the fact that I also look at men in the same way, on occasion.

Update: I forgot to mention that, actually, the story does not appear for me, and I see only a bunch of SQL errors. The bloody moral majority has struck again!

40. Comment #237980 by tgbarton on August 27, 2008 at 1:22 pm

I view women in many enlightened ways in addition to viewing them as sex objects. I will involuntarily curtail the latter when they stop wearing revealing clothing, cosmetics, perfume, and marrying rich men who are immensely older and uglier than they are.

However, that was a fantastically unfortunate advertisement for something with "reason" in the title.

P.S. Search for "Geoff Henley" on YouTube to find the video if it doesn't show up above.
