Our Lord goes to extraordinary lengths to create the illusion that he does nothing. Why? Because he can do anything!

avatarMaybe "He doesn't exist", but we know that can't be true because of the Bible.

Has David Robertson seen this?

I'll stick to my untestable "faith" of atheism and science.

avatarHe should have quoted the Psalms:

"The fool says in his heart there is no God"

So, obviously, you'd have to be a fool to think God doesn't exist.

avatarI watched it and gave it one star for being another fundy video, then came back to leave a comment and you're all saying "good satire."

What? Simply restating their beliefs (no matter how rediculous) by itself isn't satire. There needs to be some sarcasm or point where you realize that it's satire. That video for all the world looks exactly like a Christian video because it simply states their beliefs.

Yeah, I could have looked at EdwardCurrent's channel first and noticed that it's theme is parody, but I didn't. As it is, the video stands to reaffirm rather than ridicule.

... so sorry for the one star Eddy.

avatarI'm going to pretend to my believer friends that I have shed my atheism and become a firm believer after seeing this 'revelation' and ask them to view it to strengthen their belief.

On second thought I'd better not. It'll probably backfire and they'll scream out "Praise de lord!!!"

avatar"That video for all the world looks exactly like a Christian video because it simply states their beliefs."

Yes Poe's Law has raised the bar for religious satire hasn't it. I'm not sure that it is even possible to satirize religion by these standards.

Perhaps when I am very old and have nothing to loose I'll dope up on every hallucinogen and mind altering drug I can find, give myself a home lobotomy with a screw driver then sit down with a pen and paper. I MAY be able to scribble down something nonsensical enough to actually qualify as a satire of religion.

But then again I could end up with a crowd of followers a couple thousand years after my death.

Um, there were lots of them.
They were mostly snarky comments in text, so you had to be watching as well as listening.
The bit about god killing first born children was a dead giveaway.

I'm always disappointed when it's not just the other side that can't detect satire. Anyway, I thought it was very funny (except the effective but unpleasant baby images).

I thought this was reasonably funny.
And its subtle enough that the odd rationally challenged faith head might actually pay attention long enough, without the usual hands over ears and speaking loudly defense mechanism, to get drawn in before it dawns on them that they are the butt of the joke.
People remember being laughed at with pain and some might just reflect upon the contradiction of the prose and images. It might just work at getting a few to question their blind faith.

Why 3.14926... looks like a pretty irrational number to choose. (and 0.766... more than pi...?)

I clicked at "killing of the firstborn" and KNEW it was satire with God on a milk carton - that's just not believers' humour, strange though theirs may be.

 avatarW, wait, where's the punchline?

So sad...

"I know, through faith...."

"Logical deduction..."

God does indeed seem non-existant - no one is disputing that (except those who believe he? talks to them). Surely, surely, then, the logical course of action would be to dismiss him altogether, until he starts seeming otherwise.

avatarI thought that the whole thing was a 'straight' pro-god presentation at first. Then I decided that the graphics were a satirical comment overlaid on a straight speech. Only at the very end was I actually totally sure that the whole thing was a set-up, although my suspicions had been rising as it continued. It was good because for a lot of the talk I felt uneasy that I couldn't decide whether it (the talk - not the graphics) was a spoof or not. The fact that a spoof like this can be made about religion without relying on any exaggeration is possibly the whole point of the piece.

He seems to agree with Douglas Adams, when he is describing the Babel fish in "the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy":
"Now it is such a bizarrely improbable coincidence that anything so mind-bogglingly useful could have evolved purely by chance that some thinkers have chosen to see it as a final and clinching proof of the non-existence of God. The argument goes something like this:
"I refuse to prove that I exist," says God, "for proof denies faith, and without faith I am nothing."
"But," says Man, "the Babel fish is a dead giveaway isn't it? It could not have evolved by chance. It proves that You do exist, and so therefore, by Your own arguments, You don't. Q.E.D."
"Oh dear," says God, "I hadn't thought of that," and promptly vanishes in a puff of logic".
That is precisely the reason why God (blessed be His name, provided it isn't a She, or even worse Allah), refuses to prove His (or Her) existence.
Actually this scene was deleted from the recent film version (which was a disaster of monumental proportions, I much preferred the BBC series, though Douglas Adams apparently hated it) , probably because it would have irritated the Americans too much. I understand it's on the DVD as an extra.

I give it a .666 out of 2/3! That was fantastic. It so illogically put together a logical case for atheist's obvious irrationality. Maybe as the theist sees this satire about how difficult it is to believe in something that makes no sense, they'll come away with an appreciation as to why atheists don't believe. And then, maybe a little light will come on in their poor little indoctrinated heads?

avatarVery funny video. All my Christian friends have the most stupid explanation that God would violate our freewill to choose whether to believe in him or not if he did anything to make the world a better place.

They are absolutely infuriating. So he's giving us the ability to make a guess with no evidence that could potentially lead to us being burned in hell forever!? I can demonstrate to them that it is my personality and way of thinking that was cultivated as a result of the way I was brought up which led to me being atheist, and not free will. I can point out that God 'violated the free will' and proved he existed to of pretty much everyone in the Bible, why are they allowed a free ticket to heaven and not me!?

So they won't think for a second about an unanswered prayer, yet when a single prayer happens to come true, in circumstances in which there is no evidence of divine intervention, they praise it as a miracle!

Christians are ridiculously stupid in their faith -_-'

 avatarWait a minute!

Sounds like I should have watched this video, instead of just listening to it. I surreptitiously view this site during work hours while I work, so most videos are just listened to in a minimised window.

Throughout this talk, I was convinced that this guy could not be for real; I guess that the visual presentation must have confirmed that. I shall watch it at lunchtime.

I guess it is a sad indictment of the times that even something as over the top as this can not instantly be recognised as satire, without visual aids, because of the abundance of even more ridiculous views, which are widely held and loudly promulgated these days.

I agree. But given its horrific nature, it does back up the obvious answer to the problem of evil quite well.

Is it immoral of me to think that the best thing that could be done for that baby would have been a quick dose of morphine and a quick burial?

avatarJust to answer to my initial post and those who refered to it:

Yeah, I realize that I was "off base" now and yeah, I feel stupid about it, especially because I consider myself as one who picks-up on those finer points.

It was a frame of mind issue... I think I've been watching too many YouTube videos. At one point I was thinking, "Oh look how the fundies are using slang on a cell phone to try to relate to youth!"

May be a sign that I sould trade some of that YouTube time with a shot of academia.
