NEXT MONDAY: Bill O'Reilly interviews Richard Dawkins2. Comment #33151 by LDmiller on April 19, 2007 at 1:45 pm

We'll see how this goes. O'Reilly had tough questions for Sam Harris a while back, but was generally polite and not as combative as I expected. He's a bit tough to figure in that he seems to have little love for fundamentalism, but thinks religion in general is extremely important for society and highly beneficial.4. Hm, I disagree LDmiller. I'm very exited on how Dawkins will do in this interview. If anyone can have a civilized conversation with that guy, it's gotta be Dawkins. (Not saying that a civilized conversation is possible though)6. Comment #33157 by Aaron on April 19, 2007 at 1:50 pm

I don't like this either. O'Reilly doesn't deserve to have a chance to use his invalidation tactics against Dawkins. I think I'll skip this one.9. Comment #33160 by DamnDirtyApe on April 19, 2007 at 1:52 pm

I hope Richard is prepared to withstand a fusillade of blustering, ill-informed self-aggrandizement.11. Comment #33162 by Convertedchristian on April 19, 2007 at 1:54 pm
just goes to show the impact Richard Dawkins in having in the US.12. Comment #33164 by William on April 19, 2007 at 1:55 pm

I hope Richard can get some good exposure this way. My concern is not regarding the interview itself, bur rather, concerning O'Reilly's pre- and post-commentary, as well as his "moderating" attitude. If he's in a bad enough mood, he'll introduce Richard as a baby-eating cannibal, not allow any time for denial of his misinformation about Richard's writing, and wrap up by picking on the good professor some more. Or he might just sail through - who knows.17. Comment #33172 by filthyatheist on April 19, 2007 at 2:09 pm
O'Reilly really is a bampot, prepared to shout down his victims/guests, at the drop of a hat, if he doesn't like what they say or if they stand up to his bullying.18. Comment #33175 by Graham on April 19, 2007 at 2:16 pm

Prof. Dawkins will have no trouble with that mental midget. Hopefully, the mental midgets watching Fox Noise can appreciate Prof. Dawkins and his views.21. Comment #33182 by Paul Nettleship on April 19, 2007 at 2:24 pm

I just had a look at the two Sam Harris clips. You can see how O'Reilly would go for Sam's sweeping attack on Islam.27. Comment #33189 by maton100 on April 19, 2007 at 2:30 pm

93% of Fox News's viewership is Republican and most of those are theists. It could be a good thing to have them hear a little of what RD has to say. I suspect that O'Reilly will not be too out-of-line when interviewing a famous Oxford scientist. O'Reilly is is typical bully and attacks hardest against people who are "lower" in the social pecking-order. I think Professor Dawkins should try to have a little fun with it -- there's nothing much to lose. I look forward to seeing the clip, as I don't get Fox News here in Canada.31. Comment #33196 by A. I really can't see this going all that well so long as the volume control belongs to O'Reilly.33. Comment #33198 by Ignoramus on April 19, 2007 at 2:42 pm
I think going on O'Reilly is a mistake.34. Comment #33199 by Lagomort on April 19, 2007 at 2:44 pm
""Sam Harris has been on O'Reilly a few times and it turned out fine.""35. Comment #33200 by Gordon Brown on April 19, 2007 at 2:47 pm
Oh, great! I can hardly wait for Mr. "Does-your-vibrator-have-a-name?" to spout off about the connection of belief to morality. I don't see this as a no-win situation for RD. Let's hope that O'-LIE-lly doesn't get under his skin, and RD defuses him with his usual unflappable calm and reasoned manner.36. Comment #33201 by Graham on April 19, 2007 at 2:47 pm

Does anyone know if this is going to be an exclusive studio interview where Dawkins actually comes in and sits at that table, or will he be broadcast via satellite along with another guest (or two)?42. Comment #33207 by youmemeyou on April 19, 2007 at 2:57 pm
Mr. Dawkins, the best of luck to you. It's a wide exposure under the worst of circumstances.43. Comment #33211 by Bremas on April 19, 2007 at 3:17 pm
I think this is a great move. Richard will do just fine.44. Comment #33212 by hasty toweling on April 19, 2007 at 3:20 pm

"Just shut up Mr Dawkins, shut up. I know there's a God because I believe there's a God and I believe there's a God because I know there's a God. And 300 million Americans can't be wrong can they? How can you be smarter than 300 million Americans?"46. Comment #33215 by Hip_Priest on April 19, 2007 at 3:27 pm
The bit I'm looking forward to the most is O'Reilly barking "Why are you athiests so DAMN ANGRY!?" at a calm Dawkins.47. Comment #33216 by Jack Rawlinson on April 19, 2007 at 3:31 pm

#49 is right, boycott fox, you will go in and be talked over and yelled at. This exercise is useless at best and will not frame atheists in a fair light and make us look bad at worse.
