avatarI personally think its rather amusing. I like the "pray to a scone" thing, cause I have wanted to say that to my co-workers who insist on praying for lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings. Or maybe pray to the wings? Oh well, more publicity for The God Delusion.

 avatarShuggy,

I don't read it, but Maxim is a somewhat raunchy men's magazine (at least here in the U.S.) full of tips about how to look like a model, how to have great sex of any kind, how to sexually satisfy women, how to have more great sex, and an occasional article or two. That's the gist of it at least.

Oh well, I guess one scientific discipline is as good as another, eh? ;)

In England there are two ways of pronouncing scone, some people passionately adamant that theirs is the correct way. Ideal for a new religion!

Shuggy, Fedler got it wrong. Maxim is one of the greatest magazines ever. It isn't nearly as full of sex advice as he makes it seem. It does have plenty advice in that department, but it has so much other cool stuff and a section on awesome new gadgets. It's kind of like a teenager's version of GQ. I just turned 23, BTW and haven't read it in (coincidentally) just about three years, but I have fond memories of that awesome magazine in all it's awesomeness.

avatarI think the UK has a magazine of the same style, possibly the same publisher, as Maxim called Stuff.
Though I may have been misinformed.

Anthropologists like Dr Dawkins are divided on the reasons, some say it's origin is in class - the pronounciations being as in sloan square, and going to the john.

The other camp of apologists insist the pronounciations stem from Celtic or Anglo-saxon geographical areas - Celts like my dear old nan used to make them flat doughy & sweet so you could still taste the cake mix like licking the bowl - yummy mmm.
