Creation "Museum" honored

This month's Mad magazine (I know, I'm probably the only person over 14 who doesn't like vomit jokes who ever cracks the magazine open) has a feature on the the 20 dumbest people, events, and things of 2007, and guess what won a slot on the list?

Finally there is compelling evidence that the theory of evolution is wrong! For proof positive that man's intelligence has not evolved in eons, consider the Cro-Magnon brained imbeciles behind the recently opened Creation Museum in Petersburg, Kentucky. The museum's exhibits don't merely challenge science, they ignore it completely! It's the only place in the world you can see man riding bareback on a dinosaur — except, of course, in an old episode of The Flintstones.

Too bad it only made #14. Ken Ham needs to try harder and bring on the dumbth.

(Coming in ahead of the Creation "Museum" are Michael Vick, GW Bush, Don Imus, Britney Spears, the Walter Reed Army Hospital, the Anna Nicole Smith paternity trial, Paris Hilton, Lisa Marie Nowak, toy recalls, Isaiah Washington, Keith Richards, Scooter Libby, and the Sopranos finale. I admit that the competition at the top is awfully fierce, but it should have placed higher than 14.)

The museum is only the 14th dumbest thing of 2007. That's a score too kind for so much dumbness concentrated in one place and then even calling it a 'museum'.

The fundies are so dim that they don't realise that the museum is an own goal which advertises to the vast majority of Americans how bonkers they are.

Whatever the opinion pools claim, most Americans are simply not youg earth creationists and don't know much about it; that's why the Discovery Institute thought it could the wool over their eyes by spending a fortune on PR puffery and sod all on science.

AiG's "museum" removes the smokescreen and shows just how staggeringly idiotic fundies are.

Touch wood, but it looks as if the fundies in the USA are increasingly up the proverbial creek ithout a paddle. The public are turning against them and have been doing so since the 2005 Kansas Kangaroo Court. The Religious Right look set to be blasted out of the water and abandoned by the Republicans, most of whom think they are all nuts anyway.

Amyway, closer to home, the UK cretinists got hit by a torpedo today. The Independent has reported today that the Brown government has abandoned the policy of more faith-based schools.

I'm currently reading a book by Chris Hedges called American Fascists, about those in the Christian Right who seek a Christian US. Here's a little bit about the Creation Museum.

On an April night at Pennview Christian School in Souderton, Pennslvania,
about a half hour outside of Philadelphia, Dr. Jason Lisle, who works for the Creation Museum, sets up his slide projector for a lecture. He begins his presentation by disabusing his audience of about 150 people, mostly students, teachers and parents, of the notion that dinosaurs were frightful creatures.
"God didn't make monsters," he says, explaining his theory of the dinosaurs' diet. "The first T. rex would have eaten plants. Dinosaurs, along with all animals originally, were vegetarians.
"People say, 'Wait a minute -- but T. rex had those incredibly sharp teeth.' And indeed, T. rex had six-inch serrated fangs -- perfectly designed for ripping and tearing into watermelons and canaloupes and cabbages and all kinds of fruits.
"You see, you think of a watermelon as soft. But in order to get to the soft stuff on the inside, you have to cut through the hard outer exterior. But not T. rex. He was quite ready to eat it off the vine."

It's worth remembering that more than 50% of the US population believe the premise behind this museum - that the world was created in 4004 BCE.

That's just reminded me of something. I recall signing the petition on keeping faith out of schools that was linked to this site for a time. IIRC there were about 20,000 signatories it � and the government is meant to reply if there are over 200. It closed a while ago and I have heard sweet FA.

Are the government deliberately dragging their heels on the reply to this one? Or maybe everybody else got one of their email fob-offs and mine is just lost in the ether?
