Menlo Park, CA Event

Photos from Richard Dawkins' book tour stop in Menlo Park, CA at Kepler's Book Store.

A note from Barbara Paulsen, the photographer:

"Kepler's has been an independent bookstore and an anchor in the community for over 50 years, often championing writers with advanced ideas. They nearly went under about a year ago and community involvement pulled them back from the brink of bankruptcy. One of their strong supporters introduced Dawkins tonight. Since the SF event has been sold out for nealy a month, Keplers caught the overflow of people who were willing to drive at least 25 miles to hear Dawkins. The store was packed - standing room only.

The Flying Spaghetti monster was the only person in costume (SF tomorrow may show some more California spirit, especially this close to Halloween). Alison is sixteen and already debates creationists on web fora. She's my daughter and an admirer of Dawkins."

Thanks for the photos, Barbara!

[Journalists] seem to feel let down when they discover that the real people aren't anything like the way they so relentlessly portray us; as if, since they've gone to the trouble of inventing extravagant caricatures of us, we should at least have the decency to live up to them in real life.

Whatever else the Bible might be – and it really is a great work of literature – it is not a moral book and young people need to learn that important fact because they are very frequently told the opposite.

In sum, according to Cardinal Pell: Man certainly did evolve from monkeys, Adam and Eve were not actual people, Genesis is a myth, atheists certainly go to heaven, and homosexuals, far from living a sinful lifestyle, are perfectly free to have unions (whatever that means!).
