avatarOn a more serious note, I think it points out children being indoctrinated and how ridiculous it is- I mean as a kid, who understands things about "god" or why they should pray five times, etc.

Anyway, funny picture.

Sweet and cuddly, no doubt about it.

Still doesn't overcome the reality that there are just too many of us on this planet, and more being born each day.

Where does it all end?

Massive famine?

Pandemics?

The look on that boy's face is nothing less than the hope of humanity, folks. Vroom vroom indeed. He's clearly still reachable. Odds are against him keeping up that attitude toward religious authority though.

28. Comment #390218 by -ID62- on June 22, 2009 at 6:41 pm

Steve Zara,
I think you ask a good question. If you go to the original posting at "pictureisunrelated" there is a discussion about this very problem. It seems as though the angles might not be quite right. If so,
then we are all reacting to an image that tells a story that we WANT to hear (see).

I do not have enough expertise to make a judgment, any one else?

avatarI'm usually pretty good at spotting photoshop jobs, considering I do them for a living. :P But I don't see anything particularly wrong with this one. The angle doesn't look off to me, he looks like he's squished between the people around him, on his knees just not bent over... The lighting seems ok, there isn't anything around the boy that would indicate that he's been cut out of another photo... There's a decent amount of jpeg artifacts, but they're found throughout the photo. Either this photo is legit or the photoshopper is really good.

father whispers: Shhh! be Quiet.
boy whispers: Dad?
father: what is it?
boy: uhm...
father: quietly, my son, before you are in trouble.
boy: Guess what.
father sighs: What?
boy: I have four-wheel-drive!

 avatarlooks like it's probably legit
http://www.videoyblog.com/publicidad/a-shiite-boy/

I could photoshop something like that if I wanted, heck any pro can, so these days you have to just see if you can trace the image back to a legit source.

Also, these people pray like 5x a day, if you look hard enough you can probably find something funny on a daily basis.

33. Comment #390245 by Bonzai on June 22, 2009 at 9:38 pm

avatarThe comments that suggest this is a photoshop job actually say a lot about our perceptions of Muslims. I don't find the picture that extraordinary, it would probably be on a par with someone texting his friend in a church during a sermon or something like that but even more innocent. Hey, muslims are humans too and I am sure that the boy won't get stonned to death as a result.

'And then in a moment of lucidity, the child realised that pushing his toy over daddy's back was indeed a more productive and creative activity than prostrating yourself and muttering sweet nothings to nobody'

I'm trying to resist the temptation to make a suggestion involving him getting older and driving a real bus............

This photo is probably one that will come back to haunt him. It'll be the one trotted out and shown to his girlfriend:

"And look what little Mohammed did at prayers." ;)

It's a charming picture and his loved-ones will see the charm as well; they did after all let him take the bus to prayers.

avatarThe image of children playing next to their praying family members is not unusual at all. Children are not required to pray and not required to sit quietly nearby. I've seen little kids climb on top of praying adults and leap and spin all around them. When I tried to distract and divert the children, it was explained to me that it's not for the child to alter their behavior, it's the praying adult that needs to establish a strong direct connection to Allah during prayer that cannot be diverted by whatever is going on in the space around them.
