Video If You Open Your Mind Too Much...

Tim Minchin - YouTube asingularlifeman

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFO6ZhUW38w

This was posted back in 2007 as well. One of the lines in the Michael Shermer video that Josh directed and Maureen produced is the title of the song. /Mike

in this one he talks about evolution(in an over simplified and comical sense) before the song.

I didn't know who this man was half an hour ago, but between this and 'Storm', I think I love him a little.

avatarI know this one would never be featured simply due to the abrasive title/chorus, but whenever I introduce my friends to Tim they invariably choose this one as their favorite:

LANGUAGE WARNING!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QaLF8UGr0hQ

Some of the lyrics:

And so if...
God was there from the very beginning
He invented men and women,
Then He also invented wanking,
Then He said wanking was sinning.
So if I'm feeling randy
I'm not allowed to hand-shandy,
But having sex with my family,
That is just f@#$@$g great.
It's all there in Ezekial 8,

avatarA huge and delightful talent. There are a few entities in the universe that deserve worship, and Tim is one of them.

One of the clear signs of the absense of a benign deity is the existence of the comic song. My heart sinks when I hear a comedian say "and I have written a song about this". The result is invariably words tortured to fit an instantly unmemorable tune.

Well, almost invariably. There are a few extremely talented performers who can not just manage a decent comic song, but make it rather wonderful. Tom Lehrer. Mitch Benn. Tim Minchin. Minchin is young, good-looking, is a talented musician and can really sing (and act too!) I hate him.

I think we've seen this before, but let's not for a moment underestimate the breath this fellow had to have for what was really, all told, a song. Kudos to him on the mechanics of it all, even before the congratulations begin on his words.

Which of course should be repeated as many times as possible.

Hugely funny, so thanks; and much appreciated for the sheer skill required to make me smile.

Now that's talent.
