Dr. J. Anderson Thomson on Think Atheist

On the heels of our recent contest for signed copies of his new book, we're thrilled to welcome Dr. Andy Thomson to the show!

Dr. Thomson is a trustee of the Richard Dawkins Foundation for Reason and Science. His new book Why We Believe in God(s) makes the case for the basis of religious thought in errors in our evolved cognitive mechanisms.

J. Anderson Thomson, Jr., M.D. (Andy) is a psychiatrist in private practice in Charlottesville, Virginia.

He is also a staff psychiatrist at Counseling and Psychological Services at the University of Virginia Student Health Services and the Institute of Law, Psychiatry and Public Policy at the University of Virginia.

Dr. Thomson’s current research interest is in the area of evolutionary psychology and the use of its principles to understand depression, suicide terrorism, and religious belief.
