Logic, Morality & Compassion

Let me start this by saying that I have given to the aid fund for the recent flood disaster in Pakistan. Some things did occur to me, and I would appreciate your help in getting some clearer insight.

The people of Pakistan are suffering greatly and on compassionate grounds a great many of us will have donated money to their welfare. In doing this could we logically, be prolonging the religious bigotry and the suffering that it causes? If we ignore the plight of these people now, are we storing up bigger problems by showing no compassion, could it make them less compassionate? Is it morally superior to help someone who could make future imoral acts in the name of religion? It could be that humanitarian efforts save the life of a would be terrorist and change his views,

Of course I'm not suggesting for one moment that we don't help. In fact I urge you to take a look at the faces you see on the news, it certainly was a motivating factor in my descision. I just wanted the wisom of crowds to help me with these difficult questions. I'm sure the Hitch or RD could cut through these questions with ease, but as both are no doubt busy, any offers of insight would be appreciated.
