Meeting with Mormons – help please

Best of greetings,

I have a few a things to say, so allow me to begin with the most important.

I have scheduled a meeting with a few Mormon missionaries to discuss the evidence for the prophethood of Joseph Smith and the Mormon faith. Had they been Christians, JWs, or Muslims, I would have been ready at the time they knocked at my door, but Mormons? I must admit I have nothing. I am planning to do my own research too, but can anyone here assist me with a few legitimate questions? If any former Mormons roam this forum, or any Mormon specialists, I would greatly appreciate your assistance.

The second thing I wanted to say was about something that they told me. When I asked what faith they were from and they told me they were Mormons, I said, ‘’Oh, that’s the church of latter day saints, right?’’ and what they said made me laugh for hours the moment they left. They replied:

‘’Oh yes, wow, how do you know about us?’’

‘’Well I’ve read a couple of books on faith and they briefly mentioned your faith, and I also keep up with the news.’’

‘’Oh, but we're nothing like what you’ve read. No, we're the right sect.’’

And in my head I thought ‘PHEW, because all along I thought I was speaking to the wrong sect, well that’s a relief.’

Isn’t that so typical of people of faith? Sunnis can see the wrong with Shias, and vice versa, Protestants can see the wrong with Catholics, and so on, but never with themselves. Nope, they in particular happen to be the right Muslim or Christian – or in this case the right Mormons.

As a former Shia Muslim, and former owner of a Shia blog, I know exactly how the tendency goes.

But anyway, thank you in advance for the help, and I will be sure to update you after the meeting.
