The state of Religious Education in England

Last night, my eleven year old stepdaughter asked me to proof-read her homework for Religious Education. The subject matter was about whether Jesus really existed, and included the challenge to search the internet and ask parents for evidence for and against. She'd done her research, admirably referencing Tacitus and Flavius Josephus as well stating that there was no scientific proof that he walked on water, healed the sick, was the son of dog etc.

However, one statement said that the Bible is an eyewitness account of the life of Jesus, as it was written at the time he was alive and shortly after. I questioned this, as my understanding has always been that the gospels were written some time after. Apparently, the teacher provided this particular point in class: 'the Bible is definitely an eyewitness account of the life of Jesus'.

Now forgive me if my understanding is incorrect, but the suggestion that the Bible, that manmade contrivance, is an eyewitness account of Jesus is preposterous.

Is the teaching of Religious Education now including blatant lies in its curriculum? Should this be reported to the school? Is it just a trifling issue that shouldn't be worried about?

Clearly I don't want to appear to be a pedantic parent causing trouble without good cause, but I am a little worried that children at the school may be being misled, either by accident or on purpose.
