As soon as I made that comment I knew there'd be someone who'd respond that way.
Are blacks still being segregated? No. In the event that segregation were to happen again would segregating themselves in such a way help them against segregation? Hm... what do you think?
While waiting for your answer I'll put my hand in boiling water to cool it down. That'd be as logical and thoughtful as your comment.

Fair enough. However, from my understanding the afro-american community is constantly saying that it's fighting against segregation, to isolate themselves from the wider community of american atheists certainly can't help 'their cause', on the contrary they segregate themselves (and other groups) by behaving in such a way.
Another issue is the given importance of it. I won't take the 'white american atheists' as an example since I guess a case could be made that it's the original group of american atheists and that therefore it would be silly for them to form a separate group of atheists.
But let's take white people in a 'black country'. If, say, Rhodesians, who suffered and still suffer from segregation and racial hatred in Zimbabwe, were to form a group of atheists exclusively reserved to their kind, would it have a chance to be featured here on RD.net? With much certainty I think it wouldn't. Why then is the afro-american community given special privileges and how is it appropriate to give them importance?

I happen to have blue eyes, I think I'll start a new atheist organisation only for people like me. Beware the blue-eyed atheist organisation! Oh wait, that would be racist wouldn't it?

Where's the UN in such matters? Wait let me guess, too busy electing tyrants and murderers to human rights committees?

Ah so I'm a troll now. Great, so much for the oasis of reason. Have fun with it, whatever it really is.
