i agree completely. i can imagine there might be elements in the crowd who might turn on gays, or people perceived as such. however, i can NOT imagine anyone turning on adulterers, the greedy, the drunk, or the others. i think even the swindlers, and the slanderers might even escape unscathed! this may be the 21st century but homophobia is alive and well.

what stands out for me, however, is the courage of these people. it also serves to further remind me that not all muslims passively accept their religion.

why are these people, or anyone else for that matter, allowed to practise their religion in public, secular spaces? don't they have homes and mosques to do these things in??

In the radio show the Editor of ABC's Net site (Religion & Ethics) seems a bit bent out of shape about all this - but then you probably have to be a faith-head to be the Editor of Religion & Ethics, so he would say that ... wouldn't he.
