Wow I guess you are a brilliant man aren’t you? You believe that in depriving the world of a belief that has persisted since the dawning of man can better it and make it freer, more enlightened, and more peaceful? The answer is: no, it can’t. For countless years, religion has given people peace and belief in a paradise that exists after death where they will be rewarded for their hard work and years of labor where they can unite and be free. You seem to claim that this is not possible. However, what is not possible is being able to prove or disprove that such a utopia exists, but your supposed intelligence claims that it does not exist, and neither does a god. Now, seeing how I major in history (as you do not), I have seen exactly how much of an affect differing religious beliefs have had on humanity and the countless lives that have been lost in the conflicts. I have also seen the corruptions and vices that have occurred in the Catholic Church since its creation. However, the harms of the Catholic Church should not make one completely dispose of religious belief.
I notice that one of your creeds in disproving the existence of religion is the Theory of Evolution. Now, there is no doubt that Charles Darwin was a brilliant man (I have in fact read his works), and I do not disagree with his theory, but that DOES NOT MAKE ME AN ATHEIST. Haven’t you ever believed that his theory is the answer to how there is a god and not why? The various genetic mutations and freak occurrences that occurred in human development could not have just been coincidence. And besides, Darwin was agnostic (that means that the existence of god can neither be disproved nor proven), he was not an atheist. Various brilliant men (you not being among them) have attempted to discover the true nature of god, and whole lifetimes have been devoted to attempt to solve the age old question, however they were unsuccessful. I highly doubt that you will be the one to do so and solve mankind’s biggest mystery.

Now to your point about the role of science and religion; Blaise Pascal, a brilliant thinker who lived in the age of the scientific revolution, did an amazing job at discovering the ties between religion and science. He believed that atheist and deists overestimated reason and believed that reason could not solve the problems of human nature and destiny, and that belief in religion drove the human races towards perfection. He also made a famous wager among his skeptics: he argued belief in God benefits the believer either way. If God does in fact exist, everything is gained by the believer, but if he does not exist, nothing is gained or lost. He was convinced of the fact that belief in God improved humans both psychologically and increased moral discipline (regardless of God’s existence).

It would be interesting to me to see how deluded you and your ilk will be when you face the Creator on judgement day and realize that all your "rational " thought will not keep you from eternal damnation.

I've only just seen this book in the bookshop, and I want to say how shocked and appalled I am at seeing such a book. This book is worse than all the sex, violence and such like books put together and does FAR more damage to innocent people.

The 'wisdom' of man is foolishness to God. Your intelligence Mr Hawkins, is foolishnessto God..... and WHEN you die, where will your intelligence have got you? Nowhere, you will be dead FOREVER !! Yes, you will be remembered for a short time, until Jesus returns, and then even the memory of you will be dead.

To purposely lead people....even CHILDREN....away from God is just about the worst sin you could commit. Mr Hawkins (and anyone else connected with you), if you do not change and stop what you are doing, then God will deal with you ever so harshly when Jesus returns. I take it you have read in the Bible, how God is going to destroy this earth with fire?....well, you will be part of that if you don't change. I really wouldn't like to be in your position !!!!

Our God is a loving God, and would welcome even you into His arms, if you changed your ways and turned to Him.

I have read your book on God Delusion and find it extremely an inaccurate and intellectually dishonest book. I am recommending that it should be vehemently debated and put down as a piece of 'garbage'!! Here are two glaring mistakes you have made which strikes out in your face if you happen to believe in that 'naked ape'!

1. you say in your book that many of Jesus' disciples disagreed with him on His Divinity, specially Thomas,etc whom you quote as saying that JESUS did many miracles when He was with them like turning water into wine,etc. So if Thomas, Philip,(the nostic guys!)saw what He did, then why is it that Jesus cant be the Son of God?? illogical argument on your part or sheer dishonesty!

2. The four Gospels have enough archaeological and eye witness historical proof for their authenticity! not to mention an 'evolutionist' trying to disprove the word of God! You say that 4 unknown people wrote the gospels?? May I ask you, who was JOHN?? for your info, he was the most loved disciple of Jesus, an EYE WITNESS to all what happened during the life of Jesus and his teachings and miracles,etc!! you may have to come down from that ivory tower of Oxford and read the Bible and learn the simple truths which have been handed down through the ages! good luck,please answer my questions and I too just like you, is an acedemic, a biochemist, who have studied evolution for a long period of time and found it empty and a full of 'garbage'!! have a good day! Mr. Dawkins,

I don't know much about you or your attempts to disprove the existance of God. I have never read your books and I probably never will. I do commend you for your education and achievements (only those that have been somewhat meaningful and progressive in humanity) but I obviously believe you are wrong.

I read some of the comments in you "bad" file in the link "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" and found many to be humorous as well as clear and sensible. However, I am disturbed at those who so-called converted from Christianity to atheism, which I viewed in the "Converts Corner".

The reason I am sending you this comment is not to argue a case for Theism or Christianity, you will not be convinced. I understand that you do not wish to believe in Christianity. Of course to you the whole concept must be stupid and irrational. I would simply like to remind you that if you are wrong and the Bible is right the only thing left for you is the just wrath of God. I know, I know, my God is vindictive and cruel if he would actually send people to hell. Only someone with a lack of understanding in justice would respond in that way but I am not moved by such ridiculously humanistic responses.

On the other hand, if the Bible is wrong (which it isn't) then I will be as well off as you in the end. Consider this Mr. Dawkins: You will die eventually, whether it be a natural or unnatural death.
