Okay, okay. I know that this article is a joke. But, I still promise to bring a good cognac to the party.
(Maybe some of the cheaper stuff after we've had a few of the good stuff. Well, at least I can't tell the cheap from the good after a few!)

#14 jimbob-I couldn't agree more. Recently I presented the argument that atheists can have moral character to some right-wing nutjobs. They, of course, brought up their usual-Hitler, communism, etc. Someone really needs to dispel the lies the religious right continue to spread. I swear I am going to re-read TGD and take notes that I can carry in my pocket!

Well done, Professor. This is more of what America needs. Some real nut jobs live in this country.

Perhaps some of them will go to the RD "OUT" site and pick up a copy of TGD. One can only hope.

Wonderful summary. I, too, enjoy Professor Dawkins' good and eloquent speech. Bravo, Sir.

I think it's a great idea. Time to organize in the U.S. and around the world. If we don't then we are letting the fundies make the only statement.
8. Navy vet: Chaplains tried converting me

I always will remember being forced to pray-bow my head, etc-at some military ceremony even though I was a atheist. Not to mention these chaplains get officer's pay and benefits while most of them sit on their asses all day and do nothing except a visit here or there.
I'm not about destroying the troops morale, but I think if christians, muslims, jews or other religions feel like they should have a representative to give last rites, counseling, etc., then the government shouldn't pay for it. Period. If these xtians and others are so dedicated then they could get the funding from the churches and send one of their own. Granted they would have to pass a security clearance and sign documents that would guarantee the same military discipline as the troops. But if they are so dedicated to saving souls, then they should volunteer without question-and save the government a few bux in the meantime.

Uh huh. Perhaps the Amish didn't have the correct version of god in their schools?

How soon they forget. Silly xtians. I'll say it again until I'm blue in the face: Give a mentally disturbed person access to a gun, tell them their sins will be forgiven and they will live as an immortal with riches beyond dreams. Then turn him or her loose in society.
But those murdered must have sinned and it was god's will.
10. Atheism isn't the final word
Comment #33790 by tony the coastie on April 21, 2007 at 7:45 pm
Life is more beautiful as an atheist. Since I am just a cosmic accident, the beauty of evolution is even more of a wonder and well grounded in fact.
Living is more enjoyable, even the tough times, and that's enough. Why beg the supernatural for more?
I have to get it right the first time, since life is short and the only thing that forgives me is the person or people I have done harm or offended. I have moral values to not hurt or harm my fellow human, not because I answer to a god. Morality allows us to co-exist on this planet.
Why abandon reason just to secure some far-fetched immortality? Life is good enough.
11. Where Is Atheism When Bad Things Happen?

Give a guy a gun, tell him he is immortal, and his sins will be forgiven. Why is religion harmless?

I would send him a copy of "The GOD Delusion" with a big bow on it. Perhaps his ol' mum would be better off? He he. My family thinks I'm a bit of youthful rebellion, granted I'm a bit older. Methinks I should start buying for them first. :P
