Most of us who come here to this site have an admiration for RD ,Hitchens and others who try to inject reason into the minds of people and would like to see every bright mind come out and trumpet their evolutionary stance in the public view.I read most of the responses here and noticed that ,with few exceptions ,most of them revolve around Gore's position ,or better said non position,on religion/evolution.
It looks like many here hold reason to be the "currency" of us atheists and all others should not dare talk about it unless they come out clear on where they stay on religion.I have not read Al's book but from what I saw in a couple of interviews his book is trying to make many of us aware of the dangers of today's media, the unbelievable danger it poses in today's society.Hi's talking about how the debate has shifted in the recent years to serve those in power and how media as a whole is posed to manipulate the gullible. His talking about the strategy of deception imposed on us and how the propaganda machine is working relentlessly to make people believe all their lies.
RD and Hitchens have been accused they wrote "angry books" about religion,Al Gore is accused of the same only this time he's"angry" at the current administration.Media in America has become so homogeneous is scary.
That's what Gore's talking about ,about the danger s of the media in society today and how it shapes peoples minds and not for the better but for serving certain interests.

Stuart Paul Wood.Sir!"Tiny" evidence on Iraq?I would say NO EVIDENCE WHATSOEVER !
I'm wrong?they(Iran) have gotten very close to industrial produced uranium?Ha?It's like saying that one's found flour in the bakery! There is no atomic power without enriched uranium.
Are we talking diplomacy ?Condoleza Rice is the head of the US diplomatic "effort"?That again is like saying that the Pope is gona host an international summit on Evolution next month! So let's see Condi does the talking and Cheney the flexing! What a team!
And we are to believe them when it comes to Iran,THEM who lied their way into Iraq!
"Iran, like North Korea, is taking full advantage of the impotence of America and Britain following the disaster of the second gulf war".
Building an atomic war head is no easy bussines nor it can happened over night,Nort Koreea started their nuclear program decades ago, even if Iran gets nuclear power,IF....and I stop here the article posted on the above tread says it all.
Thank you 'windweaver" for the post.
And what a ludicrous approach to solving the problem-let's bomb them before they bomb they, easy to talk from the comfort of an armchair.Did we become a trigger happy nation after Bush took over ?

Tobbe! What mister Cheney doesn't want you to know is that the Iranians do not want to build an atomic bomb ,they just want (maybe)to build an atomic program for energy production. And now lets go back to Irag, what did they tell us?WMD !None found! What do they tell us now?atomic bomb in Iran!Evidence?None, zero, nada! And let's not forget who layed the foundation of the Iranian Atomic Program?USA!It was a heck of an investement then that brought American corporation over 6 billion dollars in revenue. You don't believe me?ask Henry Kissinger.
So let's not jump to conclusion so fast, that's one of the major problems in this country,
credulousness!Just because all these fear mongers tell us on Tv how fearfull we should be doesn't mean we actually should be.I'm not trying to defend the Iranians here ,I'm only trying to look at this picture with an objective eye.Let's ask for evidence,HARD EVIDENCE,before we give our "leaders" the power to use force and violence again ,not that they need any kind of approval from us anyway.
And I bet you that if Iran (let's just say for the sake of the argument) was geographicaly located next to Mongolia (or you name it) and not next to Israel ,America would have been the first to help with the Atomic program ,AGAIN!Or to inverse here just a bit let's say that North Koreea was located where Iran is today and they were all muslims,do you think they would have had any chance of getting all those nuclear tests done?I doubt it.
Let's go a bit further and look at the three countries ,namely,Israel,Pakistan and India who have not signed the NPT(Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty),we don't seem to have a problem with any of them.Furthermore assuming that Iran does get nuclear bomb capability how is that a treat to United States? What a silly question ,all I have to do in order to find the answer to that question is to watch Fox Noise, they probably have a "fine" answer for that.

As much as I want to see all these J freaks go back in the cave where they belong I wish these books ,and hopefully the ones to come, will spark in many a little sense of reality and get people thinking that maybe what they have been believing all this time, for whatever reason,is not the ultimate truth, ignite the skepticism that lays dormant in all of us and with that bring the debate on a larger stage where ideas can be heard and challenged .I think if we can do that we would have a big impact on the minds of so many people who have been believers until this time because of sheer ignorance, passive ignorance.I believe that many people will have a hard time shaking the rust off their brains but the stronger the shaking the better the chances they will start thinking .For the same reason I think the approach of these latest books is the right one ,playing nice will not get us far.Let's punch the religious bag hard.

Fox noise is an"entertainment channel" for many of us who have a brain ,unfortunately it is a "news Chanel" for milions of Americans who take Fox's word as the ultimate truth and form their opinion based on what they see on this channel( for these folks there is no alternative source of information besides this channel). And on the same note if you watch any of the other American major news stations you soon realize that all are swimming in the same bucket, the content of the news is so similar that is extremely hard to build any sort of critical analysis .America is in that regard extremely isolated informational wise. The Canadian station CBC is so much better than any of the American major broadcasters.Watching TV in America is like walking in the desert, its hot and arid ,inhospitable and even now and then there is an oasis ,unfortunately these oasis are very few and too far apart.

This is good stuff, aside from the fact that he made the fully clothed monkeys @fox noise be sorry for being alive that day Hitchens said "the need to defend the Israeli occupation" which is something you hear once in a blue moon in America. There might be many out there who share the same opinion but in America nobody talks about it,it is taboo,it's either you have something nice to say or not say it at all.It gets a free pass(same as religion did for so long)it's not nice to talk about it openly ,it just not,why not?'cause it's not.
Ok ok !I saw RD's videos too many time hence the last line.

"World Health Organization's recent announcement that it recommends male circumcision as a means of preventing the spread of AIDS."
..what?Let's see, first circumcision was said to prevent young boys from masturbating, since that didn't work the new idea that followed was that it prevents infections of the urinary tract, that was never proved to be true ,now we are being told that it could prevent AIDS.Aren't we forgetting the basic means of disease prevention here, condoms, good personal higiene and so on,and of course since the prevalence of the disease is higher in undeveloped parts of the world shouldn't we start getting to the bottom of the problem and not begin in the middle of it?
And by the way studies were done that show that circumcised men loose up to 40 % of the sensibility in that area, and to to mention the barbarian method of getting circumcised.

I can't stop smiling,I enjoyed reading this immensely ,since the guy is getting so much adulation from the "Jesus Camp" I think it's only "fair and balanced" to have someone get his "carcass" kicked even after his departure into "heavens"(he must be there right?).Way to go .

If Christians get their high morals from the Bible my question would be where do the Hindu or Buddhist get theirs since there is no 10 Commandments to look at in their religion?Or maybe all humans get their morals from their respective religion regardless of its name(Christian, etc)hence religion its wonderful stuff. As far as I'm concerned these Jesus lovers should look back at the history of Christianity and see how their morals were nothing but dust in the wind, they should read the Bible more carefully and see how morally corrupt it is ,how divisive a force religion is.
I get mad when I hear/read about how much better then me these Jesus freaks are.
Ok.

I'm surprised nobody picked up on the comment 101 by "fmoran"- From a couple of posts I get the feeling that there's a misconception of "American" being synonymous with "Christian" or even synonymous with "being religious"."
Well let's see where does the "misconception" come from!Where to begin?Who exactly ,in America,is ridding the wave that opposes Gay Marriage, abortion rights, stem cell research ?The Christian Fundamentalist groups, and they have great success in doing so because they are powerful and influential enough, where does the power and influence come from ?a large supporting base.
Where else in the civilized world can you find Mega Churches the size and with as many followers as those found in Texas,Florida and many other parts of USA?Where else in the World can you see billboards advertising passages from the Bible?
What is written on the American currency?"In God we trust".
When Election time comes where does the Republican/Democrat American politician look for a big chunk of support-to various religious groups,I don not have knowledge of any other Western civilized country where the separation of Church and State is less evident than here in America,it's actually more of a marriage here.
Just pay attention to the President and see on how many times he talks about "God this and God that".
And because I watch sports I noticed that there is a huge number of professional athletes who invoke God at every step, just think about Serena Williams speech at the Australian Open where she thanked her God for her success.I have not heard any European athlete ever mentioning God.
And this is something from the top of my mind,I bet that if a study would be done the number of reasons why America is perceived as very religious would be far greater than what I enumerated here.
