Comment #132093 by flyingscot on February 24, 2008 at 6:44 am

I am so very sorry to hear about your daughter's illness Yorker.
I have enjoyed reading both Yorker's and Veronique's posts and am delighted to hear that you are both getting together.
Very best wishes to you both for a wonderful future together. Australia's loss is most definitely Scotland's gain.
Kind Regards
fs

3. Richard Dawkins talks about The God Delusion

Comment #122821 by flyingscot on February 6, 2008 at 6:55 am

I am very glad we do not get our morals from the Old Testament or the Koran!
The God Delusion definitely puts everything into perspective and is wonderfully enjoyable read.

Thank you Professor Dawkins.

Pat Condell is terrific, I always enjoy his videos.

10. A New Debate

Comment #75599 by flyingscot on October 3, 2007 at 5:44 am

A wonderful idea, knowledge is a good thing.

Mind you if I remember correctly Margaret Thatcher was a Chemistry graduate before becoming a lawyer so she definitely understood the scientific method but not all her policies were welcomed by the British electorate.

13. Richard Dawkins and the New Age fakers

Comment #64822 by flyingscot on August 22, 2007 at 1:53 am

Spend a day in Glastonbury and have your DNA altered back to it's original 'Atlantean' structure....£140!!

The look on RD's face when confronting the mumbo-jumbo experts........priceless!!

14. Come Out!

Comment #59437 by flyingscot on July 29, 2007 at 3:49 am

I think the T shirt is great. The logo is eye catching and it advertises a great site.
Excellent!

15. OUT Campaign Launched, 'Scarlet Letter' Shirts Now Available!

Comment #59429 by flyingscot on July 29, 2007 at 3:26 am

I am surprised by some of the posts here complaining about our long awaited T shirt. What's not to like? I think it looks great.
Some people are just never pleased and no matter what design had been chosen there would always be a few disgruntled whiners. What is the problem? If you don't like it don't buy it!!! Simple as that.

I have no problem advertising this wonderful site, I am very happy to do so. The more people that visit and hopefully register and join, the better for us all.

Thanks Josh, I think you are doing a great job!

16. Police plea on genital mutilation

Comment #55883 by flyingscot on July 12, 2007 at 6:30 pm

I am glad that Britain is doing something about female genital mutilation. It is a horrific procedure. I wish them success.
Now they have to step up and outlaw male genital mutilation. All children should be protected from this barbaric abuse.

17. Charles Darwin - Legacy

Comment #55827 by flyingscot on July 12, 2007 at 2:06 pm

Thanks for posting, I enjoyed this too.
So, it looks like George Carlin was right when he said, 'the earth's not going anywhere, we are. It is going to shake us off like a bad dose of fleas!'

18. Interview with Richard Dawkins

Comment #51525 by flyingscot on June 23, 2007 at 9:16 am

I enjoyed this interview. Lesley Roberts was fair and conducted the interview well. I wish it had been a bit longer.
"Moderates encourage sloppy thinking" I liked that one Richard.

19. His word: Attacking religion can seem like breaking a butterfly on a wheel

Comment #51519 by flyingscot on June 23, 2007 at 8:17 am

It never fails to amaze me that people get paid for writing articles like this. Unbelievably bad, and he gets published! He must have some good contacts. What a waste of space.

20. Richard Dawkins: Atheist

Comment #50938 by flyingscot on June 20, 2007 at 2:39 pm

Another good one Richard.
.......'nevertheless he is quite a stupid man.'
Priceless!

22. U.S. circumcision rate drops

Comment #50565 by flyingscot on June 18, 2007 at 7:31 pm

Circumcision is a barbaric mutilation of the genitals and I am glad to hear the rate is dropping in the US. Not a minute too soon!
I still have a hard time understanding why anyone would subject their newborn son to such a horrific, clinically unnecessary, procedure. It is madness!

23. The Great God Debate

Comment #50169 by flyingscot on June 15, 2007 at 12:28 pm

Another enjoyable debate.
It is a pity, though, that the theists in debates like these just ignore the question when they are unable to answer it, and prattle on about something completely different to what they were asked. An un biased moderator is needed to keep them on track. Christopher Hitchins has no problem admitting lack of profound knowledge in certain subjects.

CH: …in the course of which time enormous numbers of people are born, don't live frightfully long, die, usually of their teeth, or by violence of some others, or in childbirth, or of nameless diseases that they can't identify because they don't know about the germ theater of disease, and so on. And it goes on and on like that. And only about 6,000 years ago does Heaven decide to intervene in remote parts of the Middle East. Now I find that unbelievable on its face. I don't just think it isn't true, I cannot see how anybody could believe that, or wish it to be true.

MR made no comment on that statement at all. I wonder why?

24. The Great Mutator

Comment #49653 by flyingscot on June 12, 2007 at 6:33 pm

Extremely good article. Thanks for posting it.

25. The Benny Hinn Report

Comment #49337 by flyingscot on June 11, 2007 at 2:26 pm

Benny Hinn is a despicable huckster. I still find it so hard to understand why anyone would be taken in by such a loathesome con-man.

26. Tome truths

Excellent article.

27. Dobson and John MacArthur fantasize about the downfall of America

Comment #48895 by flyingscot on June 9, 2007 at 11:38 am

I wonder what pecentage of their brains these guys are using? A very small number comes to mind.

28. Don't Know Much Biology

Comment #48875 by flyingscot on June 9, 2007 at 9:53 am

Well, that was a treat! Turning on my PC today and reading Prof. Jerry Coyne's excellent article.
I have spent the last half-hour checking out the links on the thread concerning what Americans believe about the earth's orbit around the sun as I too found that difficult to believe.
After reading the data about these polls I am truly at a loss for words.
Education is the key and young people are being denied access.

29. In Saudi Arabia, a view from behind the veil

Comment #48335 by flyingscot on June 7, 2007 at 1:34 pm

Very good article. Can't help but feel sorry for the women who have to live their lives in an inferior position. Shame on the West for condoning this kind of behaviour.

30. Scopes Two

Comment #48237 by flyingscot on June 7, 2007 at 6:48 am

Truly mind numbing. What is wrong with these people? They obviously will do anything for a vote. What a bunch of Nincompoops!

31. Hamas Kindergarten Graduation Ceremony

Comment #47520 by flyingscot on June 4, 2007 at 8:34 pm

This is most certainly child abuse and very chilling to watch.
So sad for these children to be indoctrinated with hate. So sad for us all.

32. Richard Dawkins and Alister McGrath

Comment #46504 by flyingscot on May 31, 2007 at 1:49 pm

I enjoyed the interview very much and do appreciate that it was posted for us to see.
Alister McGrath's answers were convoluted and more than a little garbled whereas Richard's presentation was precise and crystal clear. However it was a polite debate, considering, McGrath is one of the fleas!

33. Christopher Hitchens at Politics and Prose

Comment #45891 by flyingscot on May 29, 2007 at 1:55 pm

Quote (Hitchens is fun anyway... but what the hell was he hitting ? I downloaded the mp3 and could not see... but is sounded like he was slapping the microphone all the time)

He was repeatedly putting his hands on the lectern and the mics obviously were not secured properly.
Enjoyable talk just the same.

35. Christian sports workers degree ridiculed

Comment #44726 by flyingscot on May 25, 2007 at 8:24 am

Comment #44718 by redfive on May 25, 2007 at 8:10 am

I am disappointed by Professor Dawkins' ignorance. Like Dr Pitchfork says, he doesn't understand the history between sport and churches in this country.

'PITCHFORK'......I love it!! How apt! Great typo.

36. Dental healer finds share of faithful believers

Comment #44108 by flyingscot on May 23, 2007 at 10:28 am

Just received this email today, so had to share it here...A Scotsman phones a dentist to enquire about the
cost for a tooth extraction.
"£85 for an extraction, sir" the dentist replied.

"£85!!! Huv ye no'got anythin' cheaper?"

"That's the normal charge," said the dentist .

"Whit aboot if ye didnae use any anaesthetic?"

"That's unusual, sir, but I could do it and knock
£15 off.

"Whit aboot if ye used one of your dentist
trainees and still without an anaesthetic?"

"I can't guarantee their professionalism and
it'll be painful. But the price could drop to £40".

How aboot if ye make it a trainin' session, ave yer student do the
extraction with the other students watchin'
and earnin'?"

It'll be good for the students", mulled the dentist. "and it's going to be
very traumatic, but I'll charge you £5."

"Och, now yer talkin' laddie! It's a deal," said
the Scotsman. "Can ye confirm an appointment for the wife next
Tuesday then?"

Of course, he hadn't heard of the Rev Steve Jones!

37. Dental healer finds share of faithful believers

Comment #44000 by flyingscot on May 23, 2007 at 6:48 am

Well, this is amazing.
I wonder if the insurance companies pay him directly for his incredible dentistry. Wait, perhaps the people that come to him are not covered with dental insurance!

Then again, it is my understanding , that it is illegal to actually practise dentistry without first actually quallifying as a dentist!
I wonder if he has malpractice insurance!!

It is hard to understand how fraudsters like Jones get away with this crap.
It would be merely amusing if he only practised his toothfairy dance in circus town but it is not quite so funny to see that he has perpetrated this fraudulent behaviour in so many countries.

We are truly lucky to be part of life on this blue planet.
Wonderful photography! We are always learning and it is made so much more accessible to us thanks to scientists that publish work like this.

Indeed he does, an excellent review. In fact he inspires me to go and read it again.

41. The root of all evil?

Comment #43663 by flyingscot on May 22, 2007 at 8:31 am

A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.....

This is a great documentary and should give at the very least, anyone that watches it, pause for thought. It is a wake up call and we need to do just that.
When is enough going to be enough?
At least we are openly challenging religion now. It is encouraging to see that the mainstream media are paying attention.
Thank you Richard for not handling these people with kid gloves.

42. Hitchens on Falwell, Part 2

Comment #43526 by flyingscot on May 21, 2007 at 10:57 pm

The news team are less than feather weights against a consummate heavy weight like Hitchins. He certainly makes them look like the fools that they are.
Bravo Hitch.......

44. Pedal power takes Islamic shape in Iran

Comment #42193 by flyingscot on May 17, 2007 at 9:40 pm

Perhaps a good idea would be for all muslim men to wear blindfolds. That way they won't have to look at women at all!
It seems a much simpler solution to their problem of being offended by the female form.

45. State Darwin museum

Comment #41007 by flyingscot on May 15, 2007 at 10:26 am

Let the truth be told.....

What is wrong with these people in the USA that would spend huge amounts of money on that silly creationist museum when they should have had one like this.

( I do hope they are paying taxes for this stupid religion inspired nonsensical establishment)

Thanks Billy

46. The Creation Museum: Prepare to believe

Comment #41000 by flyingscot on May 15, 2007 at 10:05 am

Surely they have put this fallacious entertainment in the wrong location.
It belongs in the Magic Kingdom with all the other fairy tales.

48. Unbelievable: That's what religion is, says Christopher Hitchens in his profoundly skeptical manifesto

Comment #40920 by flyingscot on May 15, 2007 at 7:55 am

I am very much looking forward to reading this book.
Great review, certainly whets the appetite.
Salivating already......!

Absolutely correct, the science classroom is not the place for ID nonsense.

I wonder if they would like Bunsen burners for their Candlemas!

50. Pale Blue Dot

Comment #40465 by flyingscot on May 14, 2007 at 10:16 am

Carl lives on indeed.
I wish they would show Cosmos on the television again and give children the chance to learn and understand the wonder of science. Adults could learn a thing or two also!
It was a wonderful series and it is as good today as when it was first aired.

Thank you Carl.
