3. MPs reject calls to cut abortion limit

To begin, I agree with the concept of abortion - early abortion. It is a shame that this situation, to a great degree, is being hijacked as a "religion versus reason" fight, when in reality it should be debated purely on ethical grounds.

I cannot think of many reasons, though I'm sure there are some, why a woman would go almost SIX months before having a termination.

One of the debating points has been potential survival out of the womb, but this strikes me as simplistic - what about sensitivity to pain, or some level of awareness. Are these things irrelevant if the human being in question is safely (or unsafely) tucked away in the womb?

Words like "delighted", "excellent news", "victory for...women's rights" and "prepared to go through the trauma of a late abortion...out of sheer desperation" have been used on this forum. It strikes me that "desperation" and "late abortion" aren't words that should be used in the same sentence, at least in what would be the majority of cases. You know soon enough when you're pregnant.

I will say again - I agree with abortion when it is in the early stages of pregnancy. I think some on this forum should learn that you can be an atheist and disagree with aspects of abortion. Otherwise you're in danger of becoming the automatons that we accuse the religiously-minded of being.

5. Victims: Pope Benedict Protects Accused Pedophile Bishops

I believe the Pope has said he wants to stop paedophiles from becoming priests. Shouldn't he be more concerned about stopping priests from becoming paedophiles?

6. Jail for creationist row killer

Yes, Mr York was in fact the proponent of the creationism argument. I searched for other articles regarding this and found the following:

http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,25197,22924167-2702,00.html

It comes as no surprise. The argument for evolution is clearly strong, which is why creationists have to resort to such desperate and primitive measures.
