As I type here in the midst of the selfsame swampland, I wonder whether these coins too originate from Louisiana....
WASHINGTON, May 29 (Reuters) - The U.S. military is investigating a Marine accused of promoting Christianity in Iraq by giving coins to civilians with a Bible verse written on them in Arabic, U.S. officials said on Thursday.

Here, Prof. Prakesh of USC recommends the use of a one-carbon alcohol as fuel...it's in the 25th minute of this interview. I can't understand what he's saying...is it nathanol? HELP! PM me if possible.

4. Richard Dawkins' secular army must be stopped. God is behind some of our greatest art

Comment #168171 by quicksilver on April 24, 2008 at 4:48 pm

Yesterday I went to the local Toys 'R Us -months after The Golden Compass was released- and purchased every single memorabilia item remaining from the film. Everything was marked down to $2-3US, except for Scoresby's airship. I encourage fans of the artist Philip Pullman to do the same. As I drove home with this treasure, I wondered whether the work of all the artists who collaborated in the making of the film would qualify as "artists" by Ravenhill or other Chris Hedges types.

5. Minnesota Atheists Interview Richard Dawkins

Comment #130661 by quicksilver on February 21, 2008 at 5:55 am

Ben Stein's presence in media for me confirms that Hollywood is indeed owned for the most part by right wing globalists bent on monopolizing the distribution of information. In "Jimmy Neutron" he displays his closest relationship with science, and that of course is a talentless pittance.

6. Ayaan Hirsi Ali asks for protection

"You can see why I was sceptical. It is all very well to pay a high cost to gain social prestige; maybe the raised prestige does indeed translate into Darwinian fitness; but the cost itself still has to be paid, and that will wipe out the fitness gain. Don't evade the issue by saying that the cost is only partial and will only partially wipe out the fitness gain. After all, won't a rival individual come along and out-compete you in the prestige stakes by paying a greater cost? And won't the cost therefore escalate until the point where it exactly wipes out the alleged fitness gain?"

I workout every day and lose an hour that could be spent elsewhere, but exercising my skepticism may yield a greater gain. Thanks for this paragraph!

16. Atheists' sign sparks controversy

Comment #104485 by quicksilver on December 28, 2007 at 3:55 pm

Too many conspiracists -most of whom seem to be atheist/agnostic- would reject that image on the grounds that the news from Building 7 (for their part) exonerates religious interests.

19. 'Boycott Worked': Compass Flops - Opening Weekend $26 Million; Narnia $63 Million

I loved the movie and eagerly await the next two. I am a consumer of all the merchandise, and have so far spent $150 on books, audiobooks, my own alethiometer, the game, and the game manual. I will donate 5 books to the library here, in Lafayette, Louisiana. And I will do more. The Church can bite me.
"I Am Legend", which I regret having seen last night, was Shinola. We need our own Donohue...someone to alert me before I find myself watching something that should have been named "I AM CHRISTIAN". -Talk about anti-science/ pro-religion...ouch!

22. Atheists' sign sparks controversy

Comment #97441 by quicksilver on December 12, 2007 at 4:56 am

My own signs -decals- are much smaller, about 1 x 10 cm., but I've distributed them discreetly, about 1000 in the last week, mostly where children will read them and pause to think. After all, it's Xmas. All these say is "Man Created God", but I'm going with Xmas colored letters and background, and a not too elaborate holiday font.
In an area such as this, bigger signs would be yanked within an hour, and by such people who often think "Get the children. None must escape." (The Golden Compass).
Several more holiday weeks to go! ;-)

26. Atheists arise: Dawkins spreads the A-word among America's unbelievers

Comment #75058 by quicksilver on October 1, 2007 at 2:12 pm

If Dawkins doesn't make a tour through the Bible Belt, his influence may never be felt here. In an earlier topic, I suggested that he appear on an episode of House because it is important that he finds his way into US living rooms. A mere walk-on role in a House (an atheist character) episode would effect just that, given some buildup prior to its airdate. Comedy Central doesn't work for everyone.

27. Review of Richard Dawkins' new book 'The Fascism Delusion'

Comment #69312 by quicksilver on September 10, 2007 at 7:39 pm

An off-topic comment:
The media here in the US works for some as a series of markets one may penetrate. It would be helpful to see Richard Dawkins in other places, say, in an episode of "House" if only as a walk-on/walk-off spot, or as a celebrity voice in music recordings, say with Bjork (another famous atheist) or Bad Religion, Mandy Moore, etc. This keeps evolving, too, so next year there may be some other presentation formats in which his message may have to appear if it is to survive. Some deeper cultural niches must show some evidence of Dawkins' determination to resonate.
Of course you may take these suggestions for what they're worth.

I'm in Lafayette, LA, aka Hell for Atheists. I will order a couple of large ones in red. It's either this, or physical infrastructure sabotage...while I live in this hellhole it's my duty to awaken the sleeping. :-)
