Surely not via prayer?!

4. Christopher Hitchens and Stephen Fry vs. The Catholics
Comment #430404 by dazzjazz on November 8, 2009 at 9:48 pm
Surely the Catholic Church has a better team than these two? They must have been ignorant of CH's debating powers to have accepted in the first place.
So glad the audience voted the way it did.
As the priesthood dies off and is not replaced, the catholic church will hopefully fade away...
5. Atheists are good humans, too
Comment #427764 by dazzjazz on October 28, 2009 at 10:03 pm
Many Westerners today hold idiosyncratic and not-always-internally-consistent sets of beliefs made up of a hodge-podge of elements borrowed from many disparate religious traditions, often with a few "new-age" ideas thrown in.

Hitchens gave the Iranian girl a good telling-off. Just because her father doesn't make her wear the hijab doesn't mean all women get their rights under Islam - how ignorant!
Anyway it's great to CH downunder - may he kick some serious fundie butt while he's here!

These institutions get public money here in Australia, and should be held to the same laws as others.

The Catholic Church should be banned and it's assets seized by the state - enough is enough. Seems like the obvious and right thing to do doesn't it?
One day, it will happen, and what a great day that will be.

Scandal after scandal for the CC.
At what stage does the world say "enough" and and ban the Pope and his legions?
Wouldn't it be great if that happened.
I went to Catholic School for most of my schooling. The Nun were some of the most twisted people you could meet. The Marist Brothers were a bunch of weirdos would couldn't cut it in regular society.
Ban the CC!

14. Religion's parasitic morality
Comment #364338 by dazzjazz on April 14, 2009 at 3:19 pm
Wow - I love this, so well said.
Picking morals from religion is like picking out food from the trash. Sure, you'll find something edible, and maybe even tasty, but it'll be tainted with the horrid smell of the rest of the junk. Why not just get your food fresh from nature where it came from in the first place.

Amazing thing about this school is they have completely unqualified community members teaching religion. I know that in reality, there aren't any qualified religious instructors, (since when do they deal with reality anyway?) but these ones spout the most amazing rubbish off the top of their heads to innocent little kids.

That video is scary! Who are these barbarian hordes we've let in to our countries? I respect them as human beings but I totally disrespect their beliefs and behaviours.
Years ago I thought it was best to leave the entire Middle East as a glow-in-the-dark car par but I know that's an immoral thing to do.
But, how can we possibly hope that these people can become civilised? Western Countries open their doors only to have them piss and shit all over the place.

Boteach comes across as a cretin and Matt's comparison with D'Souza is spot-on. Boteach didn't make sense at all. Just goes to show the mental gymnastics required to be a rabbi, priest, imam etc.
Well done Hitchens! Did Boteach buy your 100 books yet?

I love listening to Pat Condell. As I live in Australia, some of his references to European events and statistics are lost on me. I'd love to see him take his rants a step further and provide some kind of footnotes. I know it's anal but I'm just wanting to learn!

49. Sam Harris debate with Rabbi David Wolpe
Comment #108059 by dazzjazz on January 6, 2008 at 12:39 am
I don't see a problem with Sam having taken on some of the best bits of Buddhism. I think he's right to talk about suffering vs happiness - it cuts to the chase of the human experience. For those who are unaware, Buddhism is not a theistic religion, at least from my experience. I did study it for a while but there wasn't enough evidence for some of the central claims for me.
Sam is my intellectual hero! Bravo for staying so calm.
