Comment #179143 by JamesDB on May 12, 2008 at 6:55 pm
This is nice bit of news but in the end really doesn't make a difference. It doesn't matter who is on whos side, just that the evidence doesn't support the religious. Having einstein now proven to not believe in religion is just another thing that will be disputed anyway seeing as christians don't pay attention to evidence.

There's nothing like someone asking you to sign a paper that pretty much says you would rather die and leave you kids motherless than live to shake your faith away. Why is it always the extreme examples that turn people.
I would say thats one of the bigger problems with people not wanting to leave christianity, they don't force you to risk your life as much.

How irritating is that, to simply stand by your point of view no matter what. I guess we are going to have to wait for these crazies to get old and die off to rid ourselves of that type of mindset. How do you stop someone like that from poisoning their children's minds? Especially when they think what we have to say is the real poison.

If there is one thing that bugs me about space exploration its the amount of time we have to wait for things to happen. I may be young still but who knows how long it will take before we can travel great distances in space. We need some kind of quick jump into a star trek type of space program so im around to experience it, and if you are wondering no im not a trekky just a space junkie.

Interesting article, does this mean they might be able to figure out how to change these "switches" on humans to change our physical appearance one day. No more plastic surgeons purhaps, just gene altering for sexiness. Sounds good to me but i probably just don't know what im talking about.

Comment #175718 by JamesDB on May 5, 2008 at 11:44 pm
I always like hearing about technology like this. The idea of finding planets that can sustain life really helps boost our case in the sense that if we find life elsewhere will that shut the creationists up?
Maybe this new technology can find the evidence needed to convince creationists they've got no arguments left.

I figured that these blogs were getting a lot of hits but for PZ's to be one of the most viewed on the internet because of this is crazy. Damn straight they should show south park. I don't think there is a funnier show out there making fun of religious people on a regular basis.
If they cancel this channel they need to cancel the religious ones too just like doglosheveva said. Religious people seem to forget the road goes both ways.

Where are the people standing up to this when it gets brought up in the first place. It shouldn't even get the time of day. Hopefully once this set of wackos has retired away the younger generation won't tolerate people coming forward with ideas like this.
Sad times for yet another american state.

No travelling for 3 days without permission, haha why would anyone take that seriously. This is the kind of thing that shows us that religion is stupid and people are stupid for believing in it.
21. Are they running for President or Pastor-in-Chief?
Comment #134511 by JamesDB on February 27, 2008 at 11:20 pm
I really don't like how none of them take a second to think about how they are in a political debate. Religion has nothing to do with politics therefor the question "what is your favourite bible verse?" is completely meaningless.
And then they have to quickly think of whatever bible verse they figure will catch them more votes. Pathetic.
At least Hillary Clinton went with the most basic of principles in only do to others what you would want done to you yada yada.
I guess i prefer her to win but I see some people disagreeing with me on that. A woman american president could really shake things up down there.(im a canuck)
22. Don't blame Islam for terrorism, expert says
Comment #130870 by JamesDB on February 21, 2008 at 12:15 pm
This is a pretty interesting take on terrorism, I wouldn't say that i agree though.
Its hard to say that these attacks weren't faith based when the suicide bombers scream out allah's name as they push the button.
I do however agree that the U.S. has pushed its way into far too many places it doesn't belong and I can understand how residents of those countries would have an issue with americans.
I just wouldn't go so far to say that because the U.S. is a bully, people start flying planes into buildings and strapping bombs to their chests. Religion seems to be the only motive for those loony toons.

Comment #128162 by JamesDB on February 16, 2008 at 11:34 am
This looks like an interesting book. I would somewhat disagree on the fact that you can't tell if your animals love you or not. Ive seen plenty of dogs and cats that wait by the door for an owner who just got home from work and they ignore the other people in the room.
At least I can say that dogs are real, a trait god seems to be missing.
Comment #122602 by JamesDB on February 5, 2008 at 3:24 pm
I really don't see why they can't just attempt to add the applicable questions into the big debate the candidates already do. Instead of trying to have a whole scientific debate which im sure presidential nominees won't like the idea of, we should be pushing to have important scientific questions added to the televised debate that happens every time there is an election. Then the candidates can't refuse to attend and will be put on the spot about these important topics.

Comment #121142 by JamesDB on February 3, 2008 at 2:01 am
Haha I quite liked this one, blunt and to the point.
How come christians can send atheists letters about finding god and loving jesus and we just laugh and toss it out but when an atheist sends a christian anything everything goes to hell.
The christians rights are being violated and blah blah blah.
I think an interesting experiment would be to hook a bible believing christian up to a polygraph and ask them questions about which parts of the bible they believe and which parts they don't accept, and see if we can get a difinitive answer on which god all these people are talking about. Its time to stop with all the excuses and distractions used by the faithful. I want to know what they truly believe is real.
Comment #97345 by JamesDB on December 11, 2007 at 11:27 pm
This is an amuzing little article. I have to say that I wouldn't be too offended if I was an american atheist left out of romneys freedom speech. I really think that all this publicity is really helping his numbers though. I think its time for the american people to stop caring so much about religion in politics when its really supposed to have no bearing on any decisions made by the government.
Maybe next time around the controversy will be over the first declared atheist running for president.
I hope Im around to see the day, what a beauty it will be.

Those numbers are somewhat hard to believe based on the number of churches in the town i live in. Again with the semantics. Religion already has a decent definition, we don't need to be going around trying to convince everyone that nonreligious things may be religions.
This is a little like the "theory" issue and if the evangelicals get their greedy hands on it and twist it they are going to say that all of us are religious in some way, like the FSM or the celestial teapot.

I quite enjoyed it, perfect example of the ignorance of religious people especially the behe parts.
I also found it hilarious when they had the early drafts of pandas and people and in it there was the
"cdesign proponentsists"
Lazy buggers can't even fully delete the words they are replacing. Then at the end the part where the creationists are calling the judge an idiot. bah How long can we put up with this, it went to trial and has been resolved.

"well i prayed for good weather but god just couldn't come through for us"
I grumbled under my breath seeing as its my grandma and i hate the idea of tearing into her for such a small offence but do any of these people ever watch the news. Do they figure that the meteorologists are talking to god about what the weather is going to be like tomorrow.
Bah this ignorance is a perfect example of the problems the US has with its public officials.

Im interested in knowing why these kinds of interactions don't sway her faith more. I always have felt that the majority of faithful people usually stick with it due to the community it provides them with.
You would think that with no community to support her she would think about turning her back on her faith, not just claim that she isn't welcome and keep it.

It doesn't make sense that canada wouldn't get this show when half the networks i get through cable are american channels.
However i do love how international these posts seem to be, good to know that we are spread all over the world with the ability to communicate like this. Its a bit of a sad note that so many of these tv programs are american based. We need more international tv representation i say.

American soldiers are semi-brainwashed killing machines. When they are praying and you don't and single yourself out its kind of like a bunny rabbit in a fox den. Pretend to be a fox purely for your safety because i don't trust a bunch of soldiers in the desert after critisizing their beliefs

Im a canadian and a big fan of george stroumbo. He is a actually getting a spot on a local radio station out here in Van. BC which just so happens to be on sundays. I didn't like the part about how he prayed a lot and ended up feeling like he was actually talking to someone at that time. I was raised in a christian household and used to pray but i always had that im only talking to myself feeling. I really dislike the idea that if you pray over and over you start to feel like you are talking to someone, isn't that along the lines of a mental illnesses. I guess religion really does fall into the category of mental illness. It messes with minds in a way few things can.

This is a good move on the part of the American legal system, these loons need to have some kind of punishment dropped on them for being so nuts. It would be nice to see some kind of laws passed that threaten them with jail time if they continue going out and running their unpleasant mouths.

I guess they are finally getting scared enough to change their tactics against us, which I feel is a good sign. Its good to know we are moving forward in this direction, pushing these groups against the wall so they make desparate moves like this one. Lets all hope the trend continues.

This controversy is both hilarious and ironic. Did anyone happen to see the two south park episodes that had richard in them. Part of it is about the future where the whole world is religion free but there are groups that are at war. The groups are two separate atheist populations and they are at war over what to call the collective group of atheists. South Park can teach all of us a valuable lesson, who cares what we call ourselves as long as everyone knows what position we have on the subject of religion.

Creationism isn't science so where are they getting the idea that it is. Maybe we need to make some kind of creation island where all these people can live cut off from the normal rational world, there they can believe whatever they want and teach eachother whatever they make up, which seems to be what they do anyway.

This is totally crazy, how can someone in jail manipulate this kind of system so much. Does youtube have some kind of anti-atheist agenda or are they just attempting to cover their butts from any real legal action against them. Either way I say anyone with a youtube account should send a little email so we can flood their servers with this. Maybe they will come to a more appropriate conclusion rather then banning innocent users.

Its good that they ended up paying more than they were attempting to get away with i just can't get past the idea that no criminal charges were filed. Child abuse is one of those crimes that most would define as unforgivable but it seems when you are a member of the church you get some kind of special protection from the "laws of man". I would like to see some kind of court order forbidding the church to take care of younger kids and make some kind of mandatory age before they are allowed to go. Let the kids decide for themselves if they wanna talk privately with a priest.
