America : A fascinating place, so advanced and yet at times so so backward. Here's hoping natural selection prunes out the really stupid ideas....

I feel sorry for John really, guess it's that "Eddie the Eagle" effect, the poor old underdog and all that. Still he was bright enough not to give his Surname....

Anybody know what the poll result was?

5. Heath Ledger Death: Baptist Group To Protest At Memorial

Comment #115707 by Stormkahn on January 24, 2008 at 2:42 pm

[blockquote]I don't understand why anyone gives two shits about the WBC and their inane protests. I think this is one of those "forget about them and they go away" sort of deals. The media and internet are the only things keeping these creeps alive. They aren't representative of the majority of Christians and hardly (only in the most ridiculous cases) represent the fundamentalists and literalists.[blockquote]

I think the WBC are a good thing, for us though, they really show up the bad side of christianity for all to see....

You have to be impressed at how much bigotry you can get in such a small package, wonder what they'll say if a tornado drives through the middle of their church tomorrow? Divine justice?

7. Florida in the process of approving new science standards

You're right, I'm concerned, so concerned I'm flabbergasted that my American cousins are slipping back into the slime after 120million years of progress.

We should have fought a little harder in the war of independence and perhaps today things would be "better"?

Awesome, concise and biting in its satire.

My hat's off to you Mr Condell!

Finally, coming in March, a surprising confession: the prolific Bible scholar Bart Ehrman, who is known mostly for his work on the historical Jesus, concedes that in spite of his Christian credentials—which include four years at Bible college and a divinity degree from the Princeton Theological Seminary—he can no longer believe in the Christian God. An all-loving and all-powerful God, he concluded after years of struggle, would not cause so much suffering.

[Does the dance of joy!] Welcome to the brave new world Mr Ehrman. [waves from blighty]

11. Archbishop of Canterbury Praises Richard Dawkins

Comment #104338 by Stormkahn on December 28, 2007 at 10:49 am

I've got to say that broadly speaking I like what they have to say, at least they're pointing in the right direction. They seem to be getting more on song about the environment and other important issues rather than prattling on about peoples sex lives. Perhaps Desmond Tutu's take is actually starting to sink in and move them in a better direction for us all?

I can't help think that the backhanded complement to RD is about getting a little closer to your enemy...but that's very unchristian of me and for once perhaps he's espousing some love for his fellow man no matter their creed.

12. 'Gospel of wealth' facing scrutiny

Comment #104205 by Stormkahn on December 28, 2007 at 5:29 am

DasSquid : You see Stormkahn, what you suggest is probably the best thing to do for the world, and since it has been previously made quite clear that the Christians are here for the next life, they need no care for nor take care of the world.

Not true exactly, not that I'm and expert, but don't their actions in this world determine which particular after life they'll end up in? Seems to me by their own rules Creflo Dollar will end up burning, shame it's not true.

Eitherway I don't expect some poor chap in Africa going blind for the want of £2 understanding why when there's some pastor with the terrible burden of deciding between his Bently or his Rolls to get Church today.

Comment #104182 by Stormkahn on December 28, 2007 at 3:45 am

OK I'll bite. I think I must be missing a trick here!

There's me thinking that one of the prime tenets of the Christain faith, and one of the reasons held up for faiths beneificial effects on society, is that of charity. The need to do good in the world, compassion, love and understanding. It seems those that give are trying to buy happiness, or at least a blessing from God?

Those that receive this payment are doing what with it? Lear jets, rolls royce, mansions?

Just think what we could do if that money was channeled into medicine and vaccines for the 3rd world? Global Warming? Mobile eye hospitals, dental clinics......

14. Top Ten Stories of 2007

Comment #103705 by Stormkahn on December 26, 2007 at 2:28 pm

Sorry folks but I can't help but think they've got their heads up their ass. Is it me or is this list pretty trivial?

There's 10 of 1000's of people starving, dying of disease and all manner of deprivation and they're bleeting on about 2 Koreans who stuck their head in the lions mouth, 3 guys in Turkey and a couple of old farts.

Somebody got married, somebody else turned traitor to one sect, some infighting and a passing shot at the money made by Dawkins et al.

This is the top 10 most important things in their world? I have to consider at this point that this could be very good evidence of a parallel universe because in my world I can think of 10,000 things more important.

Damn I wish I was Odin so I could start throwing some thunderbolts and wake these idiots up!!!

15. Response to My Fellow 'Atheists'

Comment #77107 by Stormkahn on October 8, 2007 at 1:26 pm

It makes more sense for us to organise as Anti-Theist rather than Atheist, which for me, has a very limit amount to say.

I can't say I'm convince either way at the moment, is there space for both ways in a 2 pronged attack?
