1. Psychiatrists: Least Religious But Most Interested In Patients' Religion

Comment #202802 by Hugo on July 2, 2008 at 2:39 am

Hey Nick6742, thanks for the audio that was really interesting, I commented on Google, really that Christian girl at 33:10 could not have given a better example of the argument from ignorance!
I don't know how it is possible, therefor GodDidIt(TM)!
I want to echo the sentiment that I hope to never get her as a physician.

2. MPs reject calls to cut abortion limit

Comment #182983 by Hugo on May 21, 2008 at 7:17 am

It is strange to read about the "pro-life" nurse, you'd think a nurse would know that when legal abortions are outlawed they move to back streets with a lot more health risks or she probably thinks women who die or are so wounded that they become sterile or worse had it coming (punished by her god hypotheses).
The more I read about it the more it becomes true to me that the pro-lifers are actually anti-women.
I keep the following links because they should be read by everyone:

4. Dawkins is third most prolific internet Briton

Comment #117985 by Hugo on January 30, 2008 at 6:17 am

Google Trends is fun too:
http://www.google.com/trends?q=richard+dawkins%2C+sam+harris%2C+christopher+hitchens%2C+daniel+dennett
RD seems to have developed a steady popularity, CH is in 2nd place but has been popular longer and has some spikes, SH is 3rd and DD doesn't even show up ...
If you change the region to US then RD and CH are tied in 1st, change to UK, well Christopher really wanted that US citizenship :)

It's really fun:
http://www.google.com/trends?q=richard+dawkins%2C+pope+benedict&ctab=0&geo=all&date=ytd&sort=0
(pope benedict had a spike when he came into office off course but if you take recent trends, GO Richard !!! ;) )

5. Richard Dawkins on The Late Edition with Marcus Brigstocke

Comment #109927 by Hugo on January 10, 2008 at 4:26 am

Chalk me up for one of those dolls.
And they could have a whole series with Christpher Hitchens, Sam Harris, Ayaan Hirsi Ali and a sort of interaction thing like those Furby dolls.
What a wonderfull world it would be ;-)

6. Colouring book warns kids of pedophile priests

Comment #94969 by Hugo on December 7, 2007 at 4:37 am

I read this on The Stubborn Crudmudgeon and thought it was satire!
This is actually for real, and the head of Survivors Network of Those Abused by Priests even applauds the intent, aaarghh my head a splodes!

7. Jury Awards Father $11M in Funeral Case

Comment #83983 by Hugo on November 1, 2007 at 12:40 am

I hope it sticks freedom of speech should end where it infringes badly upon other peoples rights and I would hope a society gives its people the right to bury their dead in peace!
you can be removed from a concert if you disrupt it, the same should apply to funerals.

8. Response to My Fellow 'Atheists'

Comment #77145 by Hugo on October 8, 2007 at 3:09 pm

sbe wrote: Unlike being gay or black, atheism is a choice

It is not, I never had religion and I can not force myself to belief religious dogma.
I can fake belief and do the rituals, it would be a lot easier than faking sexual orientation but it would be faking!

9. Response to My Fellow 'Atheists'

Comment #77144 by Hugo on October 8, 2007 at 3:06 pm

Don't agree at all.

Sam's example is frankly childish after reading some of his books I'd have thought he was on a bit higher level.
Atheists don't go around proclaiming they are atheists at all times (and it's not what the current movement is about).
I don't end every sentence with '... and I'm an atheist' but when I talk about or am asked about religion I do not hide my atheism and that is what it is about.
The question to Pres. Bush should be asked in the first way because it is a human interest question any sane educated person should ask that question regardless of religion.
Now if Bush in return were to ask me my position on stem cell research I'd proclaim my atheism and tell him that if he thinks that doing research on 3 day old human embryo's is like abortion then sneezing is abortion too.

Just own up Sam, you made a mistake.

10. Open letter to YouTube video

Comment #72919 by Hugo on September 23, 2007 at 2:12 pm

All those wondering about RichardDawkinsNet banning
(http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=richarddawkinsnet)
It was because some little copyright infringement on one movie that made YouTube ban the entire account.

11. Open letter to YouTube video

Comment #70351 by Hugo on September 15, 2007 at 3:05 am

Uploading the video to my YouTube account now, the only video I have for the moment.
I couldn't believe they banned RichardDawkins.net, and now this, YouTube is popular and big but they can't go on like this, they're part of Google didn't Google have "not being evil" in their mission statement?

12. Good News: Both our Foundations are now Officially Recognized as Charities

Comment #70338 by Hugo on September 15, 2007 at 1:35 am

Great news to start the weekend!
I hope it will be a beacon of reason in the world!

13. Anger over 'blasphemous' balls

Comment #66028 by Hugo on August 28, 2007 at 12:47 am

Football and religion, two things I will probably never understand why grown up people take them so serious.

14. Amnesty to defy Catholic church over rape victims' abortion rights

Comment #63076 by Hugo on August 13, 2007 at 4:29 am

Flagellant this has been in the news before and I did have an comment section when I gave my donation, I see that they are talking my comment to heart about not succumbing to vatican pressure!
Good for them I will put AI in my donation folder.
This is truly appalling! That last paragraph is sickening, that doctor should be put in a cell for the rest of his days what a fucking bastard!
And catholics can claim all they want that that is not what they believe, it is and and by not renouncing their "faith" they are enabling that ratfaced murderer, it hurts me to write this as my wife is still a catholic but I had to react.

15. Found: the giant lion-eating chimps of the magic forest

Comment #56313 by Hugo on July 14, 2007 at 11:37 pm

Nails, we should not limit our language just because religion and other fantasies attaches their meanings to words we can take those words back :-)

16. Vatican cardinal calls on Catholics to stop funding Amnesty

Comment #50100 by Hugo on June 15, 2007 at 4:52 am

I made sure that my donation to AI mentioned my opposition to the vatican's stance on abortion.

17. Dobson and John MacArthur fantasize about the downfall of America

Comment #48785 by Hugo on June 9, 2007 at 3:40 am

I wouldn't want to live in a society that doesn't celebrate lesbian sex!

18. Richard Dawkins and Alister McGrath

Comment #46434 by Hugo on May 31, 2007 at 7:46 am

It is also being discussed in the forum, I've posted a link to this page there and am doing the same here

http://www.richarddawkins.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=248288

RD himself said that it would be coming online so I guess there's some upload issues.

19. Richard Dawkins and Alister McGrath

Comment #46346 by Hugo on May 31, 2007 at 2:19 am

I get SQL errors in the article on this page (Google reader shows it ok)
And can't see the movie, it seems that it is only visible in the US, I tried some proxy servers and the US ones did not show the "not authorized" text but the proxy servers had problems with the Google video plug-in so I could not see it anyway :(

20. A galactic fossil - Star is found to be 13.2 billion years old

Comment #43953 by Hugo on May 23, 2007 at 4:48 am

"Surprisingly, it is very hard to pin down the age of a star"

I don't find that surprising at all.

21. Pope: God Will Punish Drug Dealers

Comment #40794 by Hugo on May 15, 2007 at 2:29 am

Benedict donated $100,000 to the treatment center and told more than 1,500 recovering addicts wearing white shirts with yellow sleeves, representing the Vatican's flag, that they must become "ambassadors of hope."

He's not donated, he bought some ambassadors, pretty cheap too I might add $66.67 per addict, would that even cover 1 day of methadon?

22. Vote for the Time 100 - Are They Worthy?

Comment #37045 by Hugo on May 3, 2007 at 8:54 am

guess they're still counting the votes?
Richard Dawkins is at #7 now:
http://www.time.com/time/specials/2007/time100walkup/article/0,28804,1611030_1612457,00.html
(if the link works)

Having Behe write a piece on RD is an absolute disgrace whatever shred of decency Time had they have lost it!

23. Vote for the Time 100 - Are They Worthy?

Comment #37017 by Hugo on May 3, 2007 at 6:47 am

I tried to put in a vote every day, voting is over and RD is at #3, not bad I think.

24. New Noah's Ark ready to sail

Comment #35867 by Hugo on April 29, 2007 at 6:16 am

So many things he could have done, shelter for homeless ...

Comment #35795 by Dennis, even better, look at the video there is a dinosaur in his ark replica.

25. Study: Religion is Good for Kids

Comment #34879 by Hugo on April 25, 2007 at 1:47 pm

Some of the things like social support hold true as long as there are many believers.
Do the same study in a country with a minority "active" believers and I'm sure the results will be the other way around, perhaps the difference would be even greater as it is in general the less educated that have it more difficult to release religion (and are targeted by the church).

26. Brian Lehrer interviews Richard Dawkins

Comment #34447 by Hugo on April 24, 2007 at 5:28 am

Good interview, I agree with comment #34353 by vavictus, Dr. Dawkins is getting better and better ;-)

PS. So dutch is the only translation available for now, I got the translation because my family is not as fluent in english as I am.

27. Dinesh D'Souza says I don't exist: an atheist at Virginia Tech

Comment #33415 by Hugo on April 20, 2007 at 3:52 am

#33322 by krispar, EXACTLY!
I am very happy that I am identified as a silent respectful atheist.
I would hate to be identified with those god loving preaching vultures of human misery.
But still so many theists don't seem to mind and continue to profess the "beauty" of their delusion.

28. John Paul Sainthood Nun 'Gentle, Simple'

Comment #28616 by Hugo on March 30, 2007 at 6:05 am

A simple search in Google and the first result was this:

http://www.pdrecovery.org/

Catholics do not have first dibs on miracle recovery from Parkinson.
I'm not in the medical field but I'm starting to think that Parkinson in some cases just cures itself allowing for miracle scams.

29. Polish woman wins abortion case

Comment #27036 by Hugo on March 23, 2007 at 1:46 am

"No one's mentioned the poor kid. How about being 16 and finding out your mom got money because she had you instead of aborting you. Nice."

How about learning at 16 that you caused your mom to be blind?
No matter what, the "poor kid" will grow up with a lot of baggage, the woman should have been able to make her own decisions about her own body and the future of the growing cells within it.

30. To be Read at my Funeral

Comment #9244 by Hugo on November 24, 2006 at 8:12 am

#9228
Even though I know that I will be gone and will not be ghosting around, I would still like people to remember me and I would like to have had an impact on some, even as an atheist there can be some meaning to life.
Off-course that little speech after I'm dead is not gonna change anything if my life itself was not worth it, so I better get to it :)

31. Morality

Comment #7094 by Hugo on November 17, 2006 at 6:04 am

WOW, great clip, man some tough issues there.
I'd never kill my child, ever, but I would allow the group to make that decision.
As for pushing the man, is jumping myself an option?

32. Photo shows the dangers of brainwashing children

Comment #2608 by hugo on October 22, 2006 at 5:38 am

while i agree with a number of the comments above, let's not forget
that The Sun like all other newspapers is one, a business and two, politically biased .There's a mass of manipulation going on in this photo from the very obvious to the not so.
