Uh-oh, an article male circumcision.
As usual the comments from males are pretty predictable -
Un-circumcised males: Most agree that male circumcision is a barbaric and unnecessary mutilation of children without consent, unless it's needed for medical reasons.
Circumcised males: Most get defensive about a perceived slight to their manliness and extol the merits of circumcision and the "uselessness" of the foreskin.

The idea that the appendix is outdated - is outdated.
Other than that a pretty good article.

scooternyc , you know holding people accountable and responsible for their actions and exhibiting sympathy or compassion are not mutually exclusive.
Yes, the guy was an idiot and he paid the price for it, but I still feel sorry for the man who lost his life so totally unnecessarily, and for his parents who have lost their son.
Your apparent lack of care for the suffering of others is disturbing to me.

Some of the hells in Buddhism could certainly challenge the Abrahamic faiths on extremity. It's not as bad as the eternal Christian hell, but still some Buddhist hells go on for a very long time, and sound quite painful.
Take a look at this little extract from "The Sutra Of Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha's Fundamental Vows" for a little preview -

Not so nice.
5. Is Infant Male Circumcision An Abuse Of The Rights Of The Child?

Surely this should be simple; just restrict circumcision to guys when they can choose themselves as consenting adults, of course leaving the procedure open for any important medical need during childhood. Is it really that difficult?
Oh wait, religion is involved again, so it's almost impossible to affect this simple change in the law, what a surprise.

The comments in response to just a couple of words in Hitchens article is funny. "What? You mean not all atheists have exactly the same set of beliefs?! Who knew!" I am also an atheist who is opposed to abortion too I have to say.
On the main issue of the article I feel quite a bit of sympathy for Mother Teresa, spending so long searching for a God she could not find. Hitchens writes excellently in the article, a very good read.

Since Stephen Russell did not include some evidence of a study I thought I'd help him out and do it for him. Best I could find with a few minutes search. Seemed like the underdog needed a little bit of help.
