It should be remembered that only a very few of the negative reviews have attempted to connect with the arguments of the book. For apologists the most important task is not to answer criticism but to dissuade their co-religionists from picking the book up in the first place. Hence actually giving an accurate account of the book's contents is not particularly high on their list of priorities.

ALL the arguments that I have read so far on this subject are preposterous. There was no entity or substance "time" before the begining of our universe ergo there was nothing we can possibly understand about the events leading to "the Big Bang" as there was no "leading up to" or "before" available. The Big Bang itself is a misnomer because there was no space in our universe prior to its existance there for nothing to "bang" or expand into or out of that we can percieve or even imagine. There is no way that we can ever solve the dillema of what happened to cause the begining otherwise it could not be 'the begining'. The likely hood that it was somehow created by a supernatural force is high, by definition ... Whatever resulted in there being a begining of our universe it is "beyond natural" as far as we humans will ever be able to understand. The likelyhood that ALL was created by some hatefilled, vindictive, war-monger (like the god personified in the bible) is as unlikely as the universe being created by the so-called flying spaghetti monster, or pink unicorn. A each is as likley as any other. It is well beyond our ability to understand and will likely always be. Therefore, I submit, that discussion on the topic, though certainly entertaining, is a futile waste of our resources. We certainly can find more constructive things to do like ending wars, famine, thirst, unneccesary death and cruelty, to name but a few. I believe that the solution to these problems lies in knowledge. Discussions about what is beyond the begining is ridiculous, you can believe whatever you like about it BUT DON'T FORCE YOUR UNFOUNDED AND UNPROVABLE OPINION ON ME OR MY CHILDREN. Keep your silly religious nonsense out of my schools and laws and wallet, and we'll have no arguments. The minute you propose teaching, as fact, ridiculous notions of the unknowable, you are pissing me off. If there is a god, and I can't prove that there isn't, then it/she/he or all of the above is beyond the knowable and you are likely insane if you think you can understand its intent. Keep your god to yourself and out of my business, government, schools, courts, and home. If you feel the need to return to the dark ages, then move to the middle-east where religious belief is incorporated into their governments, laws, schools etc. DO NOT TAKE US ALL WITH YOU!!!
