2. A Rational Universe Implies a Creator, Science points towards Theism
Comment #81380 by bornabaptist on October 24, 2007 at 4:33 pm
Is this the god in the gaps argument?
The universe appears strange, not rational at the moment. Our theories, brilliant as they are, lack the explanatory power needed to rationally explain the universe, and rid us of the gaps the faithful continue to fill with a deity.
Once we explain the universe, religion will place god prior to the beginning, or deny our understanding.
3. Debate between Christopher Hitchens and Edd Doerr

"we're all screwed"
Humanist's, religious moderates, relativist's, apologist's, agnostic's.....jeez, baffle them all with logic and reason and what do you get? Religion does some good deeds, humans need religion, we should respect reasonable false beliefs. We will know the zeitgeist is changing when the above listed groups start giving religious belief the respect it deserves.
I would enjoy attending church one or two days a week, to discuss science and philosophy, not to discuss interfaith respect. My Unitarian church recently asked me why my pledges had decreased. I reported their money was going to RDF. Trouble is, in my community the Unitarians are the bastion of free thought.
4. TB and the Question of Evolution
Comment #46783 by bornabaptist on June 1, 2007 at 3:18 pm
Evolutionary Biology should become a required academic class in every U.S. university. I am a physician and do not remember ever studying the subject in elementary, secondary, university or medical school. I knew about the theory but it was not until I read The Selfish Gene that I understood and appreciated the elegance and truth of Darwin (and R. Dawkins). I know, I have led a sheltered life. It is what it is in middle America, truth is something you have to seek for yourself.
I feel certain that RDF can help remedy the poor teaching of evolution within U.S. universities. Within a generation, would it not be great if every university graduate had read and understood The Selfish Gene, The Extended Phenotype and others?
Curiosity acted upon, leads to wisdom.

Agree or disagree with C. Hitchens you must choose issue by issue. The man is a literary and intellectual force. I pre-ordered my copy, and I am about half way through the book. It is a great read! Unfinished, I would vote to include the man as the fourth Musketeer. The Atheist Manifesto is worth the effort as well.
6. William Crawley meets Richard Dawkins

Dr. Dawkins was calm and articulate as usual. Great job! I just finished reading; On Truth, by Harry G. Frankfurt. It is a little book (1 hour read) that discusses the value and importance of truth. Dr. Dawkins usually has the chance to mention he cares about what is true during his interviews. This book may help us all explain the importance of truth, when called upon to do so. On Bullshit, by the same author is worthwhile, and thankfully, short.
7. Memo: Stop teaching evolution

Here is my email to this nut. Just send a short note, nothing fancy is required for this idiot.
Your Message *:
Please, give up your seat in Texas government. You appear to be ignorant with repect to science in general, and evolution in particular. Embarrassing, you should not only apologize to the Anti Defamation League, but to every citizen in Texas. You should really expand your knowledge base a bit, after you resign from office.
Best Regards,

10. In Loving Memory of William Luke Ashton: July 10th 1989 - Dec 25th 2006
Comment #22232 by bornabaptist on February 13, 2007 at 4:24 pm
Moving. Your loss, Mr. Ashton, is the fear of any rational parent. I commend your support of RDF and would like to pledge $200 on behalf of you, and your son's memory to RDF. I am not sure if I can make a donation with such a designation, so this note must suffice. The ability to give, "In memory of......", a good idea Josh?
All the best

Sad, not surprising. It takes years to overcome this early age brainwashing by parents and authority figures. We are going to need a lot of money to fight this filth. Dig deep, donate. Send a book to a theist, email the video links, articles, etc... to local private religious schools, city, state and federal representatives, friends, relatives. Inundate theist's lives with science and reason.
