1. British Airways takes beef off the menu to avoid offending Hindus

Comment #178074 by Elles on May 10, 2008 at 12:30 pm

...

There isn't a vegetarian option?

Right then, I'm going to go find some lunch. I'm thinking roast beef sandwich...

2. Dumb and Dumber: A discussion between Ben Stein and Glenn Beck

Comment #175444 by Elles on May 5, 2008 at 12:34 pm

Hm... I have a copy of "Biology for Dummies" on my bedroom floor. I know a certain speechwriter, game show host, and actor who needs it more.

4. Was the new finger a 'natural' miracle?

Comment #174431 by Elles on May 2, 2008 at 12:13 pm

I heard about him in Scientific American?

Why won't God cure amputees?

Because he's lazy and wants to leave it to science... like everything else...

Impotent fool...

5. Museums teach society lacking in science literacy

Comment #172641 by Elles on April 29, 2008 at 8:20 pm

I volunteer every other weekend at my local science & nature museum. I have indeed noticed that it's way easier to get people interested in science at an informal setting than, say, the school I go to where every kid is anti-science because they're overloaded with so much homework from the class.

6. Anti-Evolution Film Misappropriates the Holocaust

Comment #172636 by Elles on April 29, 2008 at 8:09 pm

I thought as much... If I were Jewish and people were using something my ancestors had suffered through for their personal anti-science agenda, I'd be pissed.

7. Girl, 17, killed in Iraq for loving a British soldier

Comment #171534 by Elles on April 28, 2008 at 2:39 pm

"You are in a Muslim society and women should live under religious laws."

I'm too angered at this Sergeant Ali Jabbar guy to make an intellectual retort.

Somehow, I don't know how, I'm going to run up to him and shout "piss off!" in his face, then throw dung hysterically.

8. Mount Vernon schools to hire investigator in Bible case

Comment #168909 by Elles on April 25, 2008 at 12:50 pm

Having a Bible on your desk, fine. My English teacher kept The God Delusion on her desk for a while... until I told her she'd been borrowing it from me for too long.

Telling your students what Good Friday and Easter are all about, fine. You can tell students what certain religions believe objectively. It's when you start rambling about "Jesus Christ our LORD and savior..." that it become preaching.

Burning crosses into your students arms...

That's just a clear sign of mental instability. Fire the man.

9. Investigating Atheism

Comment #166820 by Elles on April 23, 2008 at 12:48 pm

"Since the publication of Sam Harris' The End of Faith in 2005, the English speaking world has seen a spate of books on atheism, most notoriously perhaps Richard Dawkins' The God Delusion (2006)."
Is there a... particular reason why The God Delusion is apparently the "most notorious" of them all? Why is The God Delusion so special?

11. If God Is Dead, Who Gets His House?

Comment #165600 by Elles on April 21, 2008 at 7:15 pm

It's about time somebody FINALLY pointed out that "atheist orthodoxy" is an oxymoron. I propose that we send the Atheist Inquisition after anybody who uses the term from now on.

12. Ben Stein Vs. Sputtering Atheists

Comment #165313 by Elles on April 21, 2008 at 10:24 am

I haven't had any respect for Yahoo! "News" since they reported that one of the reality TV shows on the Sci-Fi channel found Yeti footprints...

As for atheism being politically correct liberalism, perhaps they can stop whining about how we're offending them all the time now.

13. Open Letter to a victim of Ben Stein's lying propaganda

Comment #164852 by Elles on April 20, 2008 at 6:46 pm

Personally, if I'd written a letter to Michael Shermer and gotten a reply from Richard Dawkins, I'd be scared out of my wits and probably fallen out of my chair.

I hope these victims can find the truth on their own. We just need to make them aware of sites like Expelled Exposed and try to open their minds.

14. Richard Dawkins and Lawrence Krauss

Comment #164140 by Elles on April 19, 2008 at 3:51 pm

But non-stick frying pans ARE wonderful! You can make eggs, french toast, bacon, sausage, Tuna Helper, fried dumplings...

15. British schools are falling for the pseudoscience of Brain Gym. Why fill kids' heads with nonsense?

Comment #160715 by Elles on April 14, 2008 at 10:08 am

Back in middle school, I got signed up for (I would have to be bonkers to sign up for it willingly) a class named "Relax Now." One day, the teacher let a student share his "ninja meditations." Of course, she wasn't insane enough to tell us that we were learning ninja meditations that day... we were learning how to gather chi...

It involved moving our arms around and "feeling" tingly feelings down our spines. Really wasn't anything more than the power of suggestion because... you have to believe in chi to know that it exists, of course!

I protested, and I ended up not getting an A in the class for not being "respectful."

16. Richard Dawkins' secular army must be stopped. God is behind some of our greatest art

Comment #160705 by Elles on April 14, 2008 at 9:56 am

HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA!

Oh God, oh God! I need to stop reading this! It's making me laugh too hard!

"...who has declared himself the champion of secularism in a world where, he claims, the delusions of faith are gaining an increasing stranglehold."

Oh God! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Who knew? I've been reading Dawkins all this time and he's the self-declared champion of secularism!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! HA! HAHA! HAAA!

Oh my God (or lack thereof)!

Wow... just... HAHAHAHAHAHA!

17. A New Flea

Comment #160170 by Elles on April 13, 2008 at 6:57 pm

I count 28 total on this page but I've seen at least two more at Barnes & Noble that aren't on here.

1. The Reason for God (the best argument it has is that you can't trust your reason. Great title for a book like that, eh.)

2. I Don't Believe in Atheists (mostly ad hom about how Atheists are fundamentalist and yadda, yadda, yadda.)

18. 'Expelled' ripped off Harvard's 'Inner Life of the Cell' animation

Comment #159185 by Elles on April 11, 2008 at 2:50 pm

"If they were gonna rip off an animation, I think Mickey Mouse would've been more apporpriate."

I, Elles, personally can not think of an explanation of how a sentient mouse could have come about through natural forces. It was therefore designed by God... er... Walt Disney.

19. 'Expelled' ripped off Harvard's 'Inner Life of the Cell' animation

Comment #158991 by Elles on April 11, 2008 at 9:59 am

Sloppy movie-making, sloppy thinking, and now they've sloppily ripped off an animation.

I hope Ben Stein is sloppy enough to miss his credit card payments and spiral into debt. Heehee.

20. Expelled producers accused of copyright infringement

Comment #158391 by Elles on April 10, 2008 at 12:23 pm

Yes, yes, yes, yes YES!

I'm going to go sing and dance in the streets... actually no... It's snowing and I can't sing or dance for my life.

I'm going to bake a cake.

21. Anti-evolution bill clears another hurdle

Comment #157107 by Elles on April 8, 2008 at 2:57 pm

"Florida tried to leave the Union and we forced them to come back. I guess we are stuck with them."

The only state in the Bible Belt that was never a slave state is Oklahoma... which belonged to the Cherokee at the time.

Maybe the Union would be better off if the Confederacy won?

22. Anti-evolution bill clears another hurdle

Comment #157077 by Elles on April 8, 2008 at 2:38 pm

Oh no... Oh no... Oh no...

I reckon that teachers shouldn't be discriminated against for teaching FSMism or astrology either.

23. Richard Dawkins: 'Growth in creationist beliefs a problem for schools'

Comment #156388 by Elles on April 7, 2008 at 12:49 pm

" ...which states that the Earth did not evolve following the big bang but was instead created by God..."

I know loads of creationists deny the solar nebular theory, but... the Earth evolves?

I'm sorry, that sentence is just... really confusing.

24. Russell T Davies: Return of the (tea) Time Lord

Comment #155937 by Elles on April 6, 2008 at 10:58 am

Teehee!

I do believe I temporarily turned into a dolphin when I read that he would be a guest star. I was clapping my hands as if they were flippers and making high pitched giggles.

25. Pastor attacks scientist's talk

Comment #154671 by Elles on April 3, 2008 at 2:56 pm

Warning: do not drink beverages while reading article.

26. Sean Carroll on the Today Program

Comment #154107 by Elles on April 2, 2008 at 4:39 pm

Ha! I have his book sitting on my bedroom floor!

I'm GOING to read it... eventually...

27. I always aim to misbehave

Comment #151526 by Elles on March 28, 2008 at 11:56 pm

Ah... I just love it more and more. Anything that's bad for the Expelled folks is good for us.

28. Iowa county board gives initial OK for ghost hunters to investigate asylum

Comment #151381 by Elles on March 28, 2008 at 3:31 pm

Ah... Lovely.

Ghost hunters taking themselves to the insane asylum. No objections here.

29. Happy Birthday, Richard Dawkins!

Comment #150333 by Elles on March 26, 2008 at 5:59 pm

Ok... I really am planning something better than this, but it slipped my mind until today so it's going to be late.

In the mean time...

Happy birthday professor! Congrats on your 67th cycle round the sun!

30. Expelled Overview

Comment #149473 by Elles on March 25, 2008 at 4:47 pm

Thanks very much for the splendid review, Josh... But also...

Thanks a lot for reminding me that though anybody with an ounce of intelligence can see through this film, the audience is already biased in favour of it.

*sigh*

31. Discussion on PZ Myers being expelled from Expelled

Comment #148041 by Elles on March 21, 2008 at 9:45 pm

I think that it's absolutely splendid.

I think I'm going to go outside and dance in the moonlight.

32. EXPELLED!

Comment #147995 by Elles on March 21, 2008 at 6:26 pm

I find the irony here astonishingly hilarious. This goes well with a cup of tea.

34. The ethics of mixing science and religion

Comment #142532 by Elles on March 12, 2008 at 4:03 pm

Heh. If they want to give me $1.6 million so that I can donate it to RDFRS, I'd do it.

35. Oklahoma: One Step from Doom

Comment #141200 by Elles on March 10, 2008 at 6:56 am

Oh sweet Reason, what has the world come to?

This is all a dream, this is all a dream, this isn't real... Ha! I don't believe it's real, therefore it isn't! Yay!

36. When blasphemy bit the dust

Comment #140640 by Elles on March 8, 2008 at 7:41 am

Dead, dead, dead, dead, dead, dead, dead!

Yay! Well... it's more good news for the Brits...

Richard, you blasphemer! You criminal (up until Wednesday)!

37. Evidence can't shake your faith if your faith excludes it as evidence

Comment #132933 by Elles on February 25, 2008 at 12:18 pm

That article was a mixture of pure confusion and hilarity. If I'm confused about what he's saying, does that mean I have the same level of intelligence as Dawkins?

I think I'll interpret it to mean yes, and ignore the logical fallacy.

38. The Salamander's Tale

Comment #132371 by Elles on February 24, 2008 at 4:40 pm

Yay!

My favorite tale! Er... second favorite... alright, maybe third... And I'm only two thirds of the way through Ancestor's Tale so far...

39. Fleabytes

Comment #129785 by Elles on February 19, 2008 at 3:15 pm

I tried reading one of the fleas ("The Reason for God") last night at Barnes & Noble and felt my IQ drop 12 points. Not much argument other than "They say that it's rational to not believe in God, but how can they be sure that their rationality is rational?"

40. The Search for Truth, God and Braver Scientists in 'Expelled'

Comment #128184 by Elles on February 16, 2008 at 12:30 pm

I started cackling violently at the Ben Stein quote. I might go see this film just for comic relief.

41. Exorcism undergoes a revival across Europe

Comment #125549 by Elles on February 11, 2008 at 3:20 pm

Here we go, my friends... Marching backward, backward into the glorious days of the 16th century when bigots burned the man who dared bring reason and enlightenment to the mind of man.

Sorry, had to quote Inherit the Wind.

42. The New Atheist Movement

Comment #123273 by Elles on February 6, 2008 at 7:15 pm

Christians seriously need to stop getting offended whenever Atheists are out in public.

Does asking Sam Harris to go do a talk in Saudi Arabia count as a death threat? If Christians aren't hostile, then would they really make such an offer?

43. Blasphemy

Comment #122470 by Elles on February 5, 2008 at 9:55 am

I definitely agree with Dennett. People should be protesting in the streets over this. Somebody should do SOMETHING... At least sign that petition on the website the other article about this was posted on.

44. Scientists discover way to reverse loss of memory

Comment #118179 by Elles on January 30, 2008 at 12:50 pm

Oh good... hopefully, someday I won't have to worry about going senile. Maybe I won't even have to worry about my parents going senile.

45. What should a scientist think about religion?

Comment #118157 by Elles on January 30, 2008 at 12:28 pm

I resisted the urge to nod my head vigorously throughout...

Great job PZ!

46. MySpace: No place for Atheists?

Comment #118150 by Elles on January 30, 2008 at 12:17 pm

I deleted everything on my MySpace profile long ago (except for the picture of me standing next to a bust of Darwin). I only keep it because it's the only way to keep in touch with some old friends from middle school.

I find it absurd that accounts and groups are getting deleted because theists find atheism offensive. What? Is it a thoughtcrime now? If they find what other people believe (or don't believe) offensive, they need to get over it. If they find people getting together because of a shared lack of belief offensive, then they don't need to join said group.

47. Atheism and Violence

Comment #117996 by Elles on January 30, 2008 at 7:05 am

I've got a new one to use against the tired "Hitler was an Atheist... what do you have to say about that?!?" argument that'll do away with it nicely...

Hitler was a group selectionist... what do you have to say about THAT?

48. Dawkins is third most prolific internet Briton

Comment #117708 by Elles on January 29, 2008 at 12:18 pm

Ha! 15 spaces above that untalented, ugly, overpaid actor they call Daniel Radcliffe!

Sorry, I just really dislike Daniel Radcliffe... with a passion. If they were making the Harry Potter movies in 1952, they would've made a much wiser decision casting Richard Dawkins as Harry Potter.

Wow, that was really random.

49. A Letter From Hell

Comment #116020 by Elles on January 25, 2008 at 10:00 am

My school blocks Facebook, Myspace, and YouTube... and I can access this video.

Somehow, I think this video would do much more harm than kids getting distracted by social networking sites and Charlie the Unicorn.

There's something about them utilizing technology for the purpose of spreading Dark Age mythologies with a few references to modern life which irks me greatly.

50. Heath Ledger Death: Baptist Group To Protest At Memorial

Comment #115820 by Elles on January 24, 2008 at 9:21 pm

Ok, that's disgusting. Really, they need to drag their noses out of 2,000 year old books and become a little modernized.
