1. As the world becomes smaller, the need to understand each other's faith grows

Comment #193306 by pulsar1z on June 15, 2008 at 8:28 am

My oversimplified version of faith

Some people are easily confused by the complexities of science. They compensate by putting their trust in someone they consider an authority and who fits their logic and education about such matters. They find strength in companionship and ritual, which they constantly reinforce by regular meetings. They are hypnotized and seduced by fanciful promises from the vary people they admire and look up to for guidance. They are nothing more than herded sheep.

This is fascinating
It implies that life is common throughout our Galaxy or at least the building blocks of life. But we must remember that the type of life on Earth is unique to Earth because of the environmental considerations.

Shrieking and yelling is a favorite technique used in mass hypnosis. Basically, that is all religion is.

5. Shaw TV Interview with Richard Dawkins

I Like the retort that people who believe that the Earth is only 6,000 years old are not very intellectual at all.

The people who wrote and published the comic haven't evolved enough yet!

7. Orangutan attempts to hunt fish with spear

Comment #171041 by pulsar1z on April 28, 2008 at 9:06 am

The Orangutan obviously confiscated the pole and by watching fishermen close by was inquisitive enough to give a go with his skills. I don't think the photo was staged.

I can't help think that if this species could survive for another 100,000 years or so, (which is doubtful) they would be capable of space travel.

I have a theory that the Big Bang is perpetual.

If there is anyone feeling depressed, defeated or like life is not worth living you may find this clip about Nic Vujicic inspiring.

I did. I just discovered it tonight.

I did find this clip awe inspiring but when watching it I kept thinking how the power of a positive attitude and the motivation to make your life the best it can be, did not come from God, it came from within. Nick Vujicic is the inspiration not God.

12. Out of the Blue

Comment #140689 by pulsar1z on March 8, 2008 at 10:58 am

Now here are some questions to think about - does it count as murder if you have an exact backup? Or how about a backup from an hour ago, or a day ago, or a year ago?

No backups only clones

Comment #140676 by pulsar1z on March 8, 2008 at 10:25 am

There is no doubt in my mind that in the future there will be artificial intelligence capable of conscious awareness and it will be considered murder if you deactivate it. It is only a matter of time.

14. Crossing the Divide

Comment #139755 by pulsar1z on March 6, 2008 at 1:10 pm

I have a similar problem in my family, Father is 88 and Mother is 86

The way people react to your beliefs is something you have little control of. The best thing to do is to set an example of happiness and loving kindness. I found that usually works best. At first I tried to explain but immediately got nowhere so I decided humility was called for. My Brother is a Catholic extremist.

The truth isn't that terrible. It is miraculous and wonderful. It is the stubbornness and ignorance that causes the unhappiness.

16. God, power and money

Comment #137719 by pulsar1z on March 3, 2008 at 11:54 am

In my humble opinion, depending on the illness I feel it is quite possible to experience so called healing. i.e. the placebo effect, but if prayer could heal we would definitely hear about it. The truth is prayer just doesn't work. It's been tested time and time again.

Cutting edge thinking, especially the part about the possibility of life, being common throughout the universe. Our knowledge has expanded and there is hope for survival if we use our knowledge wisely.

I loved it

23. Cutting Edge: Baby Bible Bashers

This documentary was so upsetting

I felt so sad, then anger, then disgust. These people are acting like hypnotized cattle living in an intellectual desert.

I feel they will never advance humanity because they are so self absorbed. They are the ones who need saving.

She makes perfect sense to me.

25. The New Atheist Movement

Comment #123098 by pulsar1z on February 6, 2008 at 1:06 pm

Not one Christian or Muslim, Jew or any other, can scientifically prove the existence of God. There just isn't a shred of evidence.

There proof is a 2000 year old philosophy, Visions, Unexplained Miracles, Voices from space and distortions of science.

I don't think this sounds harsh its only the truth as I see It.

27. Dusty Clues: Study suggests no dearth of Earths

Comment #122419 by pulsar1z on February 5, 2008 at 8:46 am

I am not an authority just a thinker but in my opinion, our life spans are too short to travel or even communicate with anything but the closest star systems. As far as we know the speed of light is the fastest anything can travel. At that rate it would hundreds or thousands of years just to get a signal to more than a few of the closest stars.

What's exciting though, It might be possible to detect intelligent life. Who knows a signal, (Light or Radio Spectrum) might have been sent to our part of the Galaxy thousands of years ago. With a little luck and good timing we might be able to receive it. If, it still had sufficient strength. Then we could spend the rest of our lives deciphering what it meant.

Forget communicating with another Galaxy. That belongs to the realm of Star Trek

28. Dusty Clues: Study suggests no dearth of Earths

Comment #122365 by pulsar1z on February 5, 2008 at 8:02 am

The whole purpose of this endeavor is to search the galaxy for conditions like our own solar system. The new telescopes we have and are building will offer new and wondrous information. This is an exciting time for Astronomers and we have added to the human book of knowledge a million fold. In fact it grows by quantum leaps every day thanks to computers.

Of course the motivation is to answer the question are we alone? I think that microbial life in the universe is probably not that rare but intelligent life capable of space travel would be very, very, very rare indeed. The existence of a "Creator" capable of designing the whole thing, nonexistent.

29. Atheists to celebrate at Darwin Day in Coconut Creek

Comment #121836 by pulsar1z on February 4, 2008 at 8:16 am

A lot of knowledge has been added to the probable fact of evolution and it is true that we have Darwin to thank for that. I say why not honor him... but not as a God.

I am always amazed at how educated people can be but at the same time how closed minded they can be.

The whole reason for evolution is that, all living things found their niche and were able to appropriate and diversify given the almost unimaginable time of 4 billion years.

When I talk to people I find they don't grasp the element of time very well, neither Does Dr. Simmons
