1. Bizarre Anti-Spore Website Takes Issue WIth Stance On Creationism

Comment #244852 by Synchronium on September 9, 2008 at 3:08 pm

Why didn't the religious people kick off about Doom, XCOM, Quake or any other game that doesn't centre around organising a Vicar's tea party?

Maybe they do about all games and I've never noticed...

Any torrent seeders? Shipping from America costs a king's ransom. :-(

Good to see the issue being discussed on telly. Not watched it yet though. Anyone got a direct download link?

If you look at the original article, it's 10^100 (ten to the power of one hundred). Sub- and superscript formatting often seems to get killed.

Formatting aside, I'd still rather read the articles on here without getting about 3 popups trying to sell me something.

7. Court Claim: Chimps Are People, Too

Comment #191135 by Synchronium on June 10, 2008 at 9:24 am

SOLUTION: Get someone to have sex with the chimp for a bit and see if they have some sort of offspring.

If no, or the offspring is sterile, it's not a human.

EDIT: That does not mean I think chimps deserve any less than humans, but would simply help with classification.

8. The 14-year-old Afghan suicide bomber

Comment #191024 by Synchronium on June 10, 2008 at 6:00 am

What have we been doing over there for the past 7 years if this is still going on?

Good point. It reminds me of George Orwell's reasoning for continuous war in 1984.

While I am enough of a a stickler to get annoyed when grammar is abused, and also have a preference for archaic spellings, I have of late begun to appreciate that language does change and that opposing it simply out of nostalgia or spite isn't sufficient.

You should probably change your username to Adrenaline :P

Ok, you win this one... :)

Wait, there's a typo on pp112 of The Extended Phenotype, so we both win, right?

This is just shocking. In the end, this would have done far MORE permanent damage to the child than any paedophile.

Oh, and Richard, paedophile has an 'a' in it. Last time I checked, you were from Oxford. :D

I like reading New Scientist articles on here. There's no incredibly annoying flash adverts all over the place!

So what did happen in that episode? Did anybody see it? I stopped watching House before the end of last season... now I'm wishing I hadn't.

Nephroptosis!

19. Richard Dawkins talks about The God Delusion

Comment #122795 by Synchronium on February 6, 2008 at 5:14 am

As for the morality issue - well, I am about as bored with this as the Prof must be in having to constantly address it.

How do people not see this? Seriously.

24. Three Little Pigs 'too offensive'

Comment #115107 by Synchronium on January 23, 2008 at 3:10 pm

I think it's offensive to builders to suggest that a builder might be offended by it.

Builders don't sit around reading kids books.

25. Life-Forming Chemicals Found in Distant Galaxy

Comment #114479 by Synchronium on January 22, 2008 at 9:33 am

It'll be interesting to see if any glycine is found. Although, even if it were found, all it would mean is that glycine is present, not life itself.

A step in the right direction, I suppose...

28. Vatican slams California firm's cloning experiments

Comment #114061 by Synchronium on January 21, 2008 at 9:44 am

I think they only protest because, going by their infallable logic, they can't decide whether those embryos have souls.

If the soul is apparently created upon conception, this just leaves the vatican with a headache.

Idgits.

29. Richard Dawkins on The Late Edition with Marcus Brigstocke

That would be incredible.

35. The Transcendental Argument for God

Comment #81700 by Synchronium on October 25, 2007 at 3:52 am

The forces that gave rise to me are a damn sight more rational than those responsible for conjouring up an imaginary god, even if I don't understand them.

36. If you don't accept the supernatural, you obviously think life is depressing, meaningless and cold

Comment #81697 by Synchronium on October 25, 2007 at 3:51 am

If anything, a life without the supernatual is a lot more fulfilling than one with.
What's the point of moping about, being on your best behaviour, waiting for whatever afterlife may await you? Religious people treat this life more like a dodgey train connection, whiling away the hours until they reach their destination. If you're not always waiting for the next life, you're a lot more able to enjoy the one you have now to its fullest, appreciating everything the universe has to offer.

A life without a god can actually be lived.
