1. Q&A with Richard Dawkins after lecture at UC Berkeley

Comment #234059 by melsdr on August 20, 2008 at 8:29 pm

All you have to do is go to the last sentence of isthatclear's 3 post rant:

'No need to applause. Thank you.'

Please tell me that english is not your first language!

Your posts get removed because they are so poorly researched that they add nothing to the conversation, not because we are scared of your vast intellect destroying our world. You truly are deluded. Your arguments would have been laughed out of the room in the 19th century. Grow up or fuck off.

2. Cardinal accuses Anglican Communion of 'spiritual Alzheimer's'

Comment #216997 by melsdr on July 23, 2008 at 7:08 pm

'Dias told bishops the battle to bring Christ to the world must be placed in the "wider context of spiritual combat" with Satan. "If this context is ignored in favour of a myopic world-vision, Christ's salvation will be conveniently dismissed as irrelevant." '

How, in the 21st century, are such idiotic, superstitious comments deemed news worthy. It's depressing.

Why doesn't the Anglican church just call bullshit on the whole religious thing, keep the churches as a social centre to go to for a sing-song on a sunday, followed by tea and cream-cakes. Then they can just ignore these wankers in Rome?

I don't know who said it but I have heard the phrase 'the CofE, taking the god out of religion' (or somrthing similar). Sounds good to me!

3. Dalai Lama defends Islam as peaceful religion

Comment #210574 by melsdr on July 14, 2008 at 8:21 pm

I think the ananymous polling of Muslims needs to continue. Three questions I would like to hear Muslims from accross the globe to answer:

Is torture a fitting punishment for allowing a child to name a teddy bear mohammed?

Is death a fitting punishment for a female who has sex outside of marriage (including rape)?

Does Mohammed having sexual intercourse with a 9 year old girl make him a paedophile?

I really want to get a proper grip on what muslims really think, and how this depends on where in the world they are. Do Indonesian Muslims think differntly on these matters to Saudi Muslims?

As for the Dalai Lama, who cares. Whats one more person trying to appease islam. I am more worried by western political leaders saying the same things.

"I think he should take the Catholics to court and demand that they PROVE that the cracker is actually Jesus. Because desecration of sacred symbols is not illegal, so they have to prove it is like Jesus' eyelid or something. "

And if they do successfuly prove it, we can put them all in prison on cannibalism charges.

Crazy Bill said: "It is hard to think of anything more vile than to intentionally desecrate the Body of Christ."

Well, you could eat the body of christ. That might be worse I suppose.

Morons.

5. Muslim countries win concession regarding religious debates

Comment #196398 by melsdr on June 19, 2008 at 9:31 pm

I live among a muslim majority, and it is true that most cultural Muslims do not agree with many of the practices for which the Religion is often criticised (obviously, the died in the wool faith-heads are a different story). But even completely non-practicing, beer drinking, non-halal eating, 9-11 condemming 'muslims' still get VERY red in the face when you actually blame Islam for these problems. To be fair though, they are often more open to discussion than the bleeding heart western 'liberels' on the same subject. What was it that I heard Dawkins say once, 'Some peoples minds are so open that their brains are in danger of falling out!'. Too True

This is complete BS. The title of Sam Harris's article 'Losing Our Spines To Save Our Necks' seems very appropriate here.
It is exactly this pandering that the scientologists have picked up on.

7. Couple charged in Norway over genital mutilation of daughters

Comment #191387 by melsdr on June 10, 2008 at 7:21 pm

Barry Pearson,

And apparently Malaysia is the voice of moderate Islam. Allow me to give an overview of their domestic policy:
All Boumis (indiginous malays) are muslim from birth, and have no legal mechanism of leaving the faith.
If a non-muslim marries a boumi, they must convert or the marriage is not legally recognised. Non-muslim religious weddings are not recognised. they must have a civil cermony.
Boumis get priority on loans, education, housing etc.
Once the marriage goes through, members of that bloodline 5 generations down are Muslim, whether they want to be or not.
I could go on for a long time. But swap Malaysia with UK, and Boumi with Anglo-Saxon, and imagine what would happen to a politician who proposed such a programme for UK?

Sorry for getting way off topic. But back to FGM it is practiced here completely legally. The last thing we need to do is listen to malaysia's racist and bigoted primeminister about how to do things in UK

Just to let you guys know that I live in Malaysia, and female circumcision is common amongst the muslim majority, although it seems that over here, only the labia get removed, and not the clit. Statements that FGM is only an african issue are exaggerated.
