1. Have-a-go deaths are never a waste

Comment #259081 by Chispita on October 2, 2008 at 9:11 pm

It all boils down to weighing your risks. I can't imagine walking away from a situation like that without doing something but if I thought I would also put myself in danger I would take a "safer" approach, like calling 911.
I'm trained in martial arts and I can take care of myself but I'm a 100 lbs female. Survival comes first!

2. Red hot enlightenment led me to believe in one fewer god

Comment #218057 by Chispita on July 24, 2008 at 9:36 pm

Though I truly enjoyed the phallic reference digression, I have to say that peer pressure is a big part of religious teenagers. As a part of a Catholic youth group, (many, many years ago)my life revolved around the church and its twisted beliefs. In my life it was either that or no social life at all. I did not believe but pretended to do so in order to fit in. You may have called me a faker but I used to think of it as surviving.

Tera Brat - thank you. I enjoyed that.
This is the way I will always remember George.

4. Religion 'linked to happy life'

Comment #146285 by Chispita on March 18, 2008 at 9:51 pm

I am sick of hearing that Atheist have no "purpose of life." I have never felt so sure about the meaning of life as I do now. This is just a convenient cliche.
They may think happiness is linked to religion but as Catholic I was taught that suffering earns you heaven and misery in this life is a good thing. That's what all the saints and martyrs did.
I say happiness is subjective and it has nothing to do with your belief in what happens after death.

5. Seven new deadly sins: are you guilty?

Comment #141613 by Chispita on March 10, 2008 at 9:39 pm

I only made it to level 2 on the test link posted by Cartomancer, which means I can hang with Cleopatra and Helen of Troy - I'm okay with that!

6. Interview with Richard Dawkins

Comment #134487 by Chispita on February 27, 2008 at 9:47 pm

Richard refers to Atheists who are okay with the existence of religion as "patronizing and condescending." Yet I noticed some of his answers to callers were very patronizing and condescending. That's the only way I know how to deal with believers. Therefore, I shall remain in my intelligence high horse until there's an easier way.

"products of overzealous parents" is exactly what I was thinking.

8. Are the 'New Atheists' avoiding the 'real arguments'?

Comment #124594 by Chispita on February 9, 2008 at 10:11 pm

That's too bad. I was looking forward to a good debate. "his resurrection?" that's just boring and predictable. I was hoping he'd come up with some more made up data and entertain us.

9. Are the 'New Atheists' avoiding the 'real arguments'?

"God is honoring His Word" -Shrommer-

How come he hasn't sent Jesus or anyone back in over 2000 years? Are we not as worthy as the ancient jews. And as a "true Christian" who lets Jesus take you from death to life, you still won't know for sure until you die. At which time it will be too late to come back and tell us we were wrong - how convenient. Unless you can tell us of someone who has come back, I don't see your point. And by that I don't mean those who were "dead" for a few minutes dreaming they were really dead.
History is objective but it also favors the winners.

10. Atheists to celebrate at Darwin Day in Coconut Creek

Comment #122137 by Chispita on February 4, 2008 at 7:54 pm

I was just thinking the same idea Beth wrote: "Darwin's theory ousted god from the seat of creation. For that ALONE we should be celebrating Darwin Day"
I also accept the fact that as humans we need to be in social groups. That's why we find even trivial things we have in common to gather and celebrate. I, for example, love to go out drinking on st. patrick's day except, to me, it's "I need to get drunk day." And no one calls me "catholic."

George,
The world needs more people like you. We are lucky to have you. Get well soon!

12. The New Encyclopedia of Unbelief

Comment #109826 by Chispita on January 9, 2008 at 9:13 pm

If I can slurge $500 on shoes I think $145 on a book I can enjoy should not be a problem.

13. What We Believe: Atheism

Comment #104575 by Chispita on December 28, 2007 at 9:06 pm

"no two atheists hold exactly the same views because atheism isn't a belief system"

So true but try convincing the world that "Atheist" is not a derogatory term. That's why, if I had a choice, I would prefer "non-believer." People think atheism is club of Christ haters for which I have not signed up.

14. Christmas with Christopher Hitchens

Comment #102344 by Chispita on December 22, 2007 at 12:25 pm

Though I enjoy reading Hitchen's condescending rant, I find his anger exhausting. I wonder if that is what drives him or could it be the booze. Dawkins would have said it better. But I'll still drink to you Christopher! Happy Holidays

15. God rest you merry atheist

Comment #99855 by Chispita on December 17, 2007 at 5:33 pm

How difficult is it to understand? You can't erase two thousand years of traditions, silly as they may be, in a few generations. Most of us grew up in families that sang carols, put up mangers, exchanged gifts and ate the same traditional foods during this time. I still do it and will probably continue to enjoy it for as long as I live. Changing the world takes at least a few hundred years.

16. Colouring book warns kids of pedophile priests

Comment #95100 by Chispita on December 7, 2007 at 10:53 am

They should just give kids a note saying "we can't weed out pedophiles. It's up to you to do so."
