1. This deadly religious resistance to vaccinations
Comment #97598 by Katana on December 12, 2007 at 12:05 pm
Has this woman ever had a child with measles or mumps?
I've had both, and they were no fun for me or my parents, i nearly died from the measles and the mumps had some nasty symptoms. I've had health problems ever since throughout my life from that point onwards.
I think one of the reasons vaccinations are declining on top of the nonsense, is that no one can remember seeing or caring for a child with one of those illnesses (in the UK at least).
I'd much rather have had an MMR jab than the illnesses themselves.

Maybe they should reclassify it as fiction as well.

The report doesn't state whether the church takes money for this "treatment". I'd be most interested to know if does, because it surely must be a waste of time and resources for the church otherwise.

Will be interesting to see if this research can be used to help people with colour blindness.

"critical thinking" is the new ID, wondered when this would happen. Ken Miller predicted the same thing in his lecture debunking ID as masked creationism.
7. Pope speaks out against 'designer babies'

The issue of designer babies always reminds of that film Gattica, and the quote they give to parents that go in for it, "it's still you, just the best of you." Reffering the baby of course.
My position on this is that any kind of genetic engineering is fine in the case of enhancing resistance to disease, genetic abnormalties, and some cases the child's sex.
I think the hair/eye colour, and other traits should be left random or otherwise people are all going to the frigging same from a certain time period where a certain style was the fashion.
8. Memo: Stop teaching evolution
Comment #22522 by Katana on February 19, 2007 at 1:28 pm
Why do they always push to have it taught in science classes. Don't regular science textbooks go through a multi-stage process of peer-review and scrutiny before they are allowed into a public school curriculum? It seems the creationists want to get straight into the schools without the hassle of such a process.
I don't have a problem with it being taught a in religious education class, since that is what it should be taught in, but i'm not sure if they have those in america or not, which may be the problem.
9. God, sex, drugs and politics

I find it rather disgusting that they would deny a potentially life saving vaccine to their own children, what kind of parent does that?
The people opposing the vaccine are probably of the same mindset as those people that believe HIV/AIDS is a cure from god for homosexuals.

It's just unfortunate that the parents were so desperate to find their son that they would ask and believe what this woman had to say.
What was annoying in that segment was that the police actually diverted their searching efforts based on her nonsense.
I remember reading an article on how often she was correct, i think it was around 2-3%.
Anyone could do random predictions based on the existing data and get it right that much.
But her obvious intention is made clear when they say her fee is $700 an hour.
To paraphrase Derren Brown's book, psychics are just mentalists that have crossed the line and prey on desperate people who want to believe.

I'm curious if sexual segregation occurs elsewhere in Isreal apart from the buses and synagogues mentioned in the article.

I'm curious as to whether the three gorges dam project has played a large part in the dolphins extinction.
