1. Anti-Evolution Film Misappropriates the Holocaust

Mrhogg thinks people will be stunned to discover what Ben Stein's "real" agenda is:

He makes some good points -- can anyone really be that completely stupid and ignorant?

3. If God Is Dead, Who Gets His House?

Comment #165616 by CruciFiction on April 21, 2008 at 10:15 pm

I've had just about enough of Greg Epstein. I'd prefer he find God so he might just go away and preach his crap elsewhere.

But for a real good time, check out this preacher in the Phillipines who says he knows for certain that:

"Atheists dead or alive will be cast into the lake of fire"

4. Richard Dawkins and Lawrence Krauss

Comment #164958 by CruciFiction on April 20, 2008 at 10:20 pm

Excellent program, and thanks for providing this important discussion to the world!

Lawrence Krauss brought up the notion (one that is often heralded by theists) that, "absence of evidence is not evidence of absence".

However, a web posting by the "Future of Humanity Institute at Oxford University" argues the contrary -- that in probability theory, "absence of evidence IS ALWAYS evidence of absence":

http://www.overcomingbias.com/2007/08/absence-of-evid.html

I'm somewhat surprised that neither of them were familiar with this perspective from Bayesian reasoning.

Later in this show, Maher did a number on religious cults, the Pope, and the Catholic Church:

Tuesday, April 8,

FROM ROB SHERMAN'S BLOG:

"I've been booked to be a guest on the Alan Colmes Radio Show this evening at 11 p.m. Eastern Time, 10 p.m. Central Time, to talk about the Monique Davis scandal. Alan is a liberal. His show is syndicated to radio stations across the country and can also be heard via streaming on the internet."

16. The New Atheist Movement

Comment #123521 by CruciFiction on February 7, 2008 at 9:54 am

From the video's description box: "The so-called Brights are coming, and it's something to be concerned about."

For all the heavy criticisms that many atheists have put forth in the past in regards to the Brights and its very global movement, it seems to me that in needing to produce such an idiotic and dishonest video as this, there is a measure of solid evidence that the Brights must indeed be doing something very right to bring about such a clear panic among those within the highest levels of ChristianDUMB and its flock of sheople.

18. Interview with Richard Dawkins

Comment #116748 by CruciFiction on January 27, 2008 at 10:34 am

"...scientists don't on the whole prove facts. What they do is fail to disprove them." ~ Richard Dawkins

Thank you Prof. Dawkins for another great quote! This, I think, is a very important and overarching principle of science and scientists that needs to be repeatedly emphasized as it completely eludes the average person, if not even the more educated.

Liz Green: "Joe, can I just ask you...whatever Professor Dawkins says, you have a faith and nothing could shake it, am I right?"

Joe (caller): "Absolutely!"

Just, WTF!?! Religious dogma at its worst (best?).

I cannot fathom how so many in our world somehow come to see this willful blocking of the mind against reason in favor of an embrace in utter ignorance as a virtue and/or act of courage. It simply defies all sound logic as it's really nothing more than a self-attack on one's own intelligence and dignity.

19. A Letter From Hell

Comment #115975 by CruciFiction on January 25, 2008 at 7:14 am

Just plain silly nonsense of the highest degree.

That many actually take this tripe seriously in any way whatsoever only gives me more evidence that the collective human mind is totally whacked, and sadly reinforces my pessimism for the future of the species.

22. Huckabee: Guns, God and rock'n'roll

Comment #107227 by CruciFiction on January 4, 2008 at 9:47 am

Ron Paul would not legislate religion on a federal level.

Wanna bet?!

Ron Paul Supports a Constitutional Amendment for school prayer.
RON PAUL SPONSORED a resolution for a PUBLIC SCHOOL PRAYER AMENDMENT -- H. J. RES. 78 (1997):
"Neither the United States nor any State shall establish any official religion, but the people's right to pray and to recognize their religious beliefs, heritage, or traditions on PUBLIC PROPERTY, INCLUDING SCHOOLS, shall not be infringed."

RP support teaching of creationism.
Question: "Will you encourage a more open approach to the presentation of scientific facts that contradict the theory of evolution?"
Ron Paul: "Yes".
[GOP Values Voter Presidential Debate Sep 17, 2007]

Ron Paul rejects evolution:

"...I, um, I think it's a theory, theory of evolution, and I don't accept it, you know, as a theory…. I just don't think we're at a point where anybody has absolute proof, on either side." ~ Ron Paul
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yPoCsC8VT9g&e

"The notion of a rigid separation between church and state has no basis in either the text of the Constitution or the writings of our Founding Fathers." ~ Ron Paul

RON PAUL IS WRONG!

"State churches that use government power to support themselves and force their views on persons of other faiths undermine all our civil rights. Moreover, state support of the church tends to make the clergy unresponsive to the people and leads to corruption within religion. Erecting the wall of separation between church and state, therefore, is absolutely essential in a free society." -- Thomas Jefferson

"Certainly the drafters of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, both replete with references to God, would be aghast at the federal government's hostility to religion." ~ Ron Paul

RON PAUL IS WRONG!

"God" was intentionally left out of the Constitution! So Paul has apparently not even read the Constitution. And the DOI only mentions "creator" -- the nature's god of Deists -- NOT the revengeful, jealous, and murdering god of the bible.

Perhaps many of you aren't at all familiar with "Daddy" Jonathan Morris. He's the religion analyst and regular news contributor for the FOX News Channel in the US.

If you like being utterly disgusted to the point of heaving, there's a channel on YouTube of his television work just for you! Don't know if it's actually him and/or his associates that maintain the channel though.

The videos were always being swamped with people leaving comments that because of the way he speaks and his mannerisms, they all think he's gay. So now they're disabling comments. Just too funny!

The quality and openness of such discussions on British television when compared to the touchy-feely fantasy crap that permeates American television for our dumbed-down masses is absolutely astounding. Perhaps we'd be better off today if we had lost the Revolutionary war.

28. New journal to target education in evolution

Ron Paul was an OB/GYN. Good thing, otherwise, with the mindset of a creationist he'd probably believe in storkism too.

38. Daniel Dennett Debates Dinesh D'Souza

Comment #93361 by CruciFiction on December 2, 2007 at 9:44 pm

I think Hitchens did much better against D'Souza than did Dennett. I thought Hitchens really had him on the ropes, and that he was showing signs of great distress. I'd like to see a rematch there.

Against the slower and softer spoken Dennett, I think he felt confident enough to just let that aggravating cockiness of his run amok.

I think there are few debaters who can rattle off so many words and different ideas into so few minutes as can D'Souza. Just as there are also few debaters who can pack in so many false analogies, dogmatic presuppositions, and half truths, all garnished with bits of meaningless rhetoric.

Look, Dinesh is simply that proverbial bull in a china shop. He storms in and immediately runs rampant trying to break as many things as he can in the shortest amount of time, knowing that nobody will ever be able to clean up any significant part of his huge mess before he storms back out. A "winner", that does not make.

39. Boy dies of leukemia after refusing treatment for religious reasons

Comment #92062 by CruciFiction on November 29, 2007 at 7:55 pm

Interesting how with the great force of Xtian demands, a State Governor, and even the US Congress will convene from recess just to intervene [in the Schiavo case] to pass laws that act against other laws in order to force the saving of the life of an already brain dead woman.

But to save the life of a young male teen with 70% chance of survival using a procedure that goes against some wacko belief of a religion? Nobody's there for him. What a totally fucked up nation we have here! Disgusting.

45. Fox News Attacks 'Godless' Free Thought Radio

Comment #78360 by CruciFiction on October 12, 2007 at 1:51 pm

That was just sleezy the way they linked Al Franken who is religious (Jewish), to atheism. They did so no doubt because Franken is running as a Democrat for US Senate in Minnesota. And so they want their small and simple minded FOX sheeple to come away thinking he's "godless scum".

But many thanks to FOX for the free nationwide advertising of FFRF's "Freethought Radio". It can only help.

48. Sam Harris seems like a nice fellow, but very confused

Comment #77219 by CruciFiction on October 8, 2007 at 7:38 pm

I wholeheartedly agree with PZ.

But more importantly, WTF is up with Harris and this shocking critical failure of his to reason realistically? Having been among his most ardent fans up to now, this really leaves me greatly disappointed.
