2. Should Strident British Atheist Richard Dawkins Dictate Education Policy to US States? Barbara Forrest Apparently Thinks So

Comment #197156 by Rover on June 21, 2008 at 8:34 am

Why are they so disingenuous? If those pushing Creationism under the cloak of "Intelligent Design" being taught in science class as a theory of how the universe formed, etc, etc. how can they even greenlight this notion...it's not scientific. By not "directly" mentioning God (but connecting the idea to space creatures), they are perverting the field of science. If they insist on doing this, then WE should also get "both sides taught" by having the Stork theory of pregnancy. Where's the proof?

In fact, why not have science in religion class, if religion is to be introduced into science class? Religious mathematics? Or have religion introduced into geography, after all we can't SEE heaven and hell, but according to the bible we know what it looks like...shouldn't that be taught to students too? Or what about Atlantis...that's a myth? Or did it exist in the South Pacific during the tectonic plate shifting of the late triassic period of the dinosaurs? We don't REALLY know...but shouldn't the kids be taught every possible "theory" and make up their own minds for themselves?

This is ridiculous!! Children bred into narrow-minded voters keeping the religious fundamentals in power and the minorities oppressed! That's what this is all about...and if it wasn't, they wouldn't feel so threatened as to be so disingenuous by their methods of SNEAKING IT INTO THE EDUCATION SYSTEM to brainwash the children!!!

Vile, vile, vile!!!

3. Police: Girl Dies After Parents Pray for Healing Instead of Seeking Medical Help

At least file charges for willful negligence.

That is most certainly prosecutable under the eyes of the law.

Can't the parents be legally tried for child abuse? They allowed a child in the care to die because they failed to provide medical attention. What will prevent them from doing this again if the other children fall sick?

Maybe if they get cancer, they can pray for a miracle and just forget about the chemo? Or how about breast cancer? Will god replace fresh breast tissue and magically dissolve the cancer spreading thru the body...or maybe the radiation will slow down its growth.

NOPE!

Just PRAY...it solves everything medicine DOESN'T do for illness? Yep...close down the labs...fire all the scientists...just pray, pray, pray! And if your kids die, just keep on praying and hope they'll get resurrected!

Delusion at it's finest....RELIGION. Look at what it does. It kills...quite literally this time.

7. They prayed to cast Satan from my body

Today, I had a chat to a Gloria Jeans girl who was serving. I looked for the donation box and sure enough, there it was. I made sure that she saw me looking there and I innocently asked (polite of course, with a tone of curiosity and without malice throughout the entire conversation)"What can you tell me about Mercy Ministries?"

I asked her if I was the first person to ask about them (MM) and she said that I was (no way do I believe her...you know why...I'll tell you!)

Now...let's assume I have no idea who they are (I didn't make out like I didn't know, I just kept asking her to tell me about the organisation). You'd think she'd tell me what they "do", right? Nope! She instantly launched into damage control...a mini-tirade of spin overdrive!

(Okay...I'll remember the rest of the conversation later, I'm sure, but I took a pamphlet anyway and it mentions that it is a Christian program and how this girl was "cured" by God's grace...)

Anyway, when I was talking to the girl who was serving, I mentioned how "isn't it (the program) primarily based on religion, etc", while she kept pushing and pushing the point that they have 'qualified' pscyholgists, counsellers, actually I think she said qualified "people" ("they're" all qualified...yadayada.)

me: "Don't they perform demonic exorcisms and prayer to cure psychological problems?"

"That's not true, don't believe the allegations!"

(strangely enough...without me even asking she launched into another tirade --which sounded very much like spin-doctoring to me-- about how the centrelink payments are not going to the incorrect people (I didn't really understand all of it because I could see that she was getting flustered...who knows why, since I wasn't bahving confrontationally! LOL.) and how the girls have all the control and it's their choice to be there and blah, blah, blah, and it's helped them all so much. I actually asked her if she had been in the program and she said no, but I didn't believe her. There's no way she was THAT invested in protecting MM's reputation if (as she'd claimed) Gloria Jeans AND herself/SHE was NOT in any way affiliated with them! It contradicts the company's press release AND make a lie out of the panphlet! So which one is it? LMAO!!!

" Don't they operate off the grid? (she smiles with teeth at this point) "you can get all the information from their website..."

Let's just say I absolutely had to report on my findings because it was most certainly and EYE-OPENING day! LOL!

The Australian Medical Association has also condemned them, and the Federal Minister for Human Services, Joe Ludwig, has asked Centrelink (Australian social security agency) to investigate the allegations and report on its pay arrangements with Mercy Ministries.
__________

LMAO!! that will put a fire under their arse!

Oh my GOD!

I'm boycotting Gloria Jeans!

I can't believe they endorse that bullshit...are they unaware what it involves? If so, then they need to completely disassociate themselves from it. Even from a business perspective, the connection is going to hurt their brand image because the related associations are not POSITIVE!

Sales will decline from those customers who are now in the know...and they'll tell others.

I can't believe this...and no, I won't go just for the coffee, I'm sure there's somewhere else that will do just fine. LOL.

10. Pakistan blocks YouTube over blasphemous video

Comment #134691 by Rover on February 28, 2008 at 5:44 am

Why should an anti-religious video be banned because some lobby group or government is complaining that it offends their belief system...when there are other videos that might be chauvanist, homophobic, anti-political, anti-environmental, anti-free speech? Etc. Etc.

WHY is a ban being imposed because some group disagrees with its content? Why should youtube pander to them because other people are voicing opposing views, philosphical/theological perspectives and opinions?

Exactly HOW MUCH of the content do they want CONTROLLED as per to their liking, to their whims, thoughts and standards...and if they are to be appeased, then it opens the door for something ELSE to be banned next, doesn't it? Is censorship really the answer? Why can't people just NOT go there, if they don't like the video (or whatever video or website really...since the internet has millions of websites), then why can't they just stay away? There are others worldwide who might actually share those views presented in the video.

Or perhaps we are to CATER, yes to CATER to the double-standards of those who believe they are ENTITLED?

I think people are forgetting one minor detail...the fact that Dawkins has ALREADY addressed all of this in his book! LOL!

And for the record, if some groups want "Intelligent Design" to be taught in a Science class, then maybe "Mathematical Theology" should be taught in a Religion class? LMAO!!!

12. A Letter From Hell

Comment #116699 by Rover on January 27, 2008 at 7:13 am

WOW! I'm "shocked" at the single-minded transparency of the scare campaign...but I really shouldn't be, since this ISN'T "news" to us!

Christians out there in the world really do have a WARPED sense of right and wrong and see no problem in justifying their oppressive, controlling belief system by manipulating and indoctrinating innocent children by means of psychological abuse! Even Pastor Becky from "Jesus Camp" said children are easier to brainwash because they're young and impressionable, since they're still learning about the world. Thing is...it (religion) leaves NO room for moral ambiguity, NO grey area for right and wrong and a truly SHAMELESS manipulation
of the moral conscience distorted into the shape they WANT it to be!

And I find that appalling. And for what? To recruit NEW believers of MYTH? why can't kids be educated in science from childhood...it would make for more intelligent people and not delusional "believers" that hide behind their religion to justify their atrocities.
